Without the complete picture there are connections you cannot make logical conclusions about. I'm just worried that by the end of the series there are still no logical conclusions.

So much that she's immediately willing to leave her mother and her home forever? I couldn't buy that.
I also couldn't buy Mae instantly flipping to "I'll kill you."

That's more or less how every child got indoctrinated, I mean, recruited into the Jedi Order. Except, at four years old instead of eight when they have even less knowledge about the world.

Thanks, Mikey! Thanks, Joe! 🌑 I'm thoroughly enjoying how the mystery is unfolding. I find this new Force coven fascinating. They are similar to but distinct from Nightsisters. I expect we'll see more flashbacks to fill in the gaps, at some point.

Joe's right; something dirty went down before the fire started.
Was it the Jedis' fault? Master Torbin seems to think so or he wouldn't have self-deleted.
Was it the witches's fault? Mother Koral was being militant and sketchy the whole time and, importantly, had plenty of alone time with Mae.
What we saw this episode was (likely) just Osha's perspective and memories; the showrunner has all but confirmed that they're doing a Rashomon type story. There's a future episode by the same director and I'm betting that we'll get Mae's and/or the Jedis' side of the story then.
I'm intrigued to see how it all comes together.

C'mon, guys, they've already showed the Jedi being so guilty that one commits suicide over what happened that night. We saw the version of what Osha saw. I suspect that coincidentally with Mae setting the book on fire, the Jedi entered the building and a battle ensued between them and the witches. Mae probably saw the fight, but Osha didn't. I think we'll get Mae's version later. With Mae saying, "Attack me, Jedi, with all your might," and honestly thinking a Jedi would, I think her version is that the Jedi attacked without provocation.
Somehow, though, the initiation of the fight wasn't righteous enough from the Jedi perspective to keep them from not feeling guilty, and they still covered it up (or they didn't cover it up and the entire Jedi order did). I would like to think the story will show that the Jedi were tricked into the attack by the horned mother...but I don't trust these writers. I think they're going to show that the Jedi killed the witches with no provocation...the Jedi are the bad guys in this story.
Sol could not know that Mae actually started the fire...how could he tell Osha that?

I completely agree with you, I suspect we'll get Osha turning Sol's words back on him about having the courage to tell the truth because its so ham fisted

Lot of controversy around this episode. I liked the witches and their coven (ok, the singing was kinda dumb) and the mother was great.
The coven is in exile because they were hunted for "using the dark side of the force", interesting part. The mind occupation was cool.
Funny that the planet isn't part of the Republic, yet the Jedi go there and want to "free" the children because they are concerned that a witch coven has some? 🤔
But it obviously wasn't the fire or the generator explosion that killed everyone, need more information please... 🤷‍♂😡
The 2 children are some sort of force creations? Interesting, I like that. But why would they leave with some Jedi they just met when they didn't meet any other person yet? 😁
Also why would Mae instantly going for killing Osha? lol _dark side blabla_ but no come on, that is stupid.
I assume that the 2nd in charge attacked the Jedi and forced a counterattack by the Jedi.
But why would they be able to 4 vs 20 them when they can use the force too?
Some missing elements, I hope they clear that up later. 👀
Anyways, love the reaction and your discussion! ❤

There is no official canonized explanation for Anakin's conception (the two EU sources contradict each other). This show didn't delete anything. It makes the galaxy richer by showing us another culture that interacts differently with the Force.

my current theory is that the witches started in-fighting and the jedi came into it and the witches liked brain washed them to attack each other or something. This explains why Mae accused them of outright attacking the coven, and it would explain the guilt the padawan felt if he was used by the witches after seeing them all die.

Thanks Mikey & Joe. Seems we've only been given half or so of the mystery. I agree with Joe, it appears that Mae probably did little more than burn the book and start the door fire. The episode gives credence to what Osha believes and to a lesser extent what Sol believes. Everything else is still a mystery. Joe's theory regarding the tree appears quite possible. In the scene where Osha wakes up on the ship it also appears that Torbin had been injured.
Also, given the influence this series takes from Kurosawa's Rashomon, I wonder if we'll see another non-split title later called "Choice", contrasting this episode "Destiny", which gives us Mae's half of the story.

  • @GentleGiantJason
