    The corner rod set-up is pretty nice. It looks sturdy. I'm envious of the skippy catching abilities. I can find catfish out there on the TN River, but those suckers are still a challenge. We rise to the level of our incompetence, and catching skivvies consistently is my incompetence level...LOL!! That looks like an excellent flathead bite, was that in May? Great show as always pal....I enjoy being subscribed.

    • @ChattCats
      @ChattCats  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Dieter! Yes this was a couple of weeks ago. Skipjack are plentiful down here. You can catch them on foley spoons, marabou jigs, and sabiki rigs. I appreciate your support. I watch your vids too. Keep up the great work! Hope we can fish together some time soon. Tight lines!

    • @DieterMelhorn
      @DieterMelhorn 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Be sure to keep us updated on how the bite goes through the "spawn lull" and when it starts to pick up. I will do the same on "this side of the hill" and we can compare notes on when the fishing gets good!! With some luck and timing I look forward to fishing with you later this summer!

      Mike...this is not poaching. Just because someone else was fishing in this spot does not mean no one else can. The guy I was fishing with in this video has been fishing these waters for the past 5 years or so...so make sure you know the full story before posting such a comment...

    Flatheads bite strange don't they?
    I was fishing at a Spillway once and i was holding my bait caster with one hand and talking to my dad at the time about the Stripers acting like bluegill just "tap tap tap" set the and pulls 3 feet of line out of you're reel!
    But What happened was that when i was talking i just sopped in the middle of my sentence because something didn't feel right my line just... dropped i look it was low then started moving away set the hook and did not move, thought i had a snag so pulled trying to break off then IT pulled against me and it was alive and did not like me with only 14 LB Mono it 10-15 minutes to pull this Flathead in mainly because #1 my gear wasn't ready 2# The fish got stuck on the underwater wall in the Spill and wouldn't move 3# when the fish came off the wall it B-Lined straight for the basket in the water!
    I told my dad to pull the basket out, when he did it rolled all over my 14 LB test coming up the wall.
    But the fish itself was 18 LB, 34 IN. pushing the limts of my bait caster that i Custom made, But works fine for it being 9 years old.

    Does water temp change what I should use for bait? Like using live or cut bait

    • @ChattCats

      It really depends. Experiment with both. Cut bait works better in high current. Live bait works better in low current.

  • @coltonjordan7321
    @coltonjordan7321 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    hey with the Carolina rig in fast current do you let it hit the bottom for skip jack or as soon as it hits the water do you start to real and can you use fresh water drum for bait or comely know as sheep head up north in Illinois the reason why I am asking is because I fish the Illinois river a lot and the biggest cat I got so far is a 10 lbs channel I'm trying for big flat head any advice you can give me

    • @ChattCats
      @ChattCats  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Colton! I let the sinker hit the bottom. I'm not sure if you can use drum for bait. Check your state's regulations on that. If you are going for flatheads use live bait (i.e. bluegill, sunfish, shad) or fresh cut bait. Fish near downed trees, bridges, and creek mouths. Good luck and tight lines!

    I gave you a thumbs down because. We on the Missouri river never throw back a blue or flathead that large. we eat what we catch. Geez a mid 30's flathead my wife would be making me sleep on the floor for releaseing a fish that large.

    • @ChattCats
      @ChattCats  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's nothing wrong with releasing a fish to fight another day. I think it's best to release all catfish over 10-15 lbs; that way, it protects the trophy catfishing and preserves the gene pool in our rivers. The state of TN requires only one catfish over 34" to be harvested per day for that specific purpose. If you want to take catfish home to eat, I think it's best to get catfish under 10 lbs. Thanks for watching!
