- Wichita Falls kinda stands on it's own up there in the north. But it's really worth a trip. A little bit historic, a lot a bit new and inviting -- this town is doing it's own thing and it's something you gotta experience!
If you’re wondering if this town was named after some actual “falls,” the answer is - sorta. Yes, there used to be falls, but they were destroyed by a flood in the 1800s. It’s up for debate as to where the name really comes from, but either way, you can find the “fake falls” built by the city at Lucy Park, and man are they glorious!
Back in 1919, Wichita Falls was desperate to build up the city. A con-man came to town, showing plans for a building that would rival the tallest in the world, raising $200,000 to build it. Investors were expecting a 480 foot-tall skyscraper, but once it was built, what they really got was a 480 inch-tall building (aka 40 foot-tall building). Stop by to see the “littlest” view in Texas and shop at Hello Again, the furniture and decor store that occupies it.
This chocolate shop B Delicious…these artisan treats are edible works of art made by chocolatier Brooke, who started the shop after falling in love with the chocolates of Europe. Get a couple truffles made with European-imported ingredients and order some coffee made with Odd Duck coffee and roasted cacao beans for the sweetest afternoon pick-me-up.
Did you know that Abe Lincoln was a pro-wrestler? Get body-slammed with fun facts like this at the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame. The museum covers the history of pro-wrestling with special exhibits on little people and female leagues. There’s even the actual ring from Madison Square Garden in the 1890s.
This bar is a local favorite for more than one reason. It is one of only 3 drive-in bars left in America, and also probably the only place you can get a “Red Draw” - a mixture of draft beer and tomato juice.
Every summer, Wichita Falls hosts a famous 100-mile bike ride on this BMX track called the “Hotter than Hell” ride, but you don’t have to ride even close to that many miles to enjoy this track and really get a work out. It’s pretty intense, not only is the natural landscape of the river lowlands a thrill, but there’s a 450-ft. long raised wooden track.
For old-school Tex-Mex with a colorful twist, look no further than Casa Mañana. For 72 years, this family-owned restaurant has been serving up their signature red tacos, a local fave. These tacos don’t get their red hue from food coloring; it’s actually from a special blend of chile powder in the homemade tortillas.
Stop, drop and roll cause this cafe is setting the food industry on FIRE. With signature wines, in-house roasted coffee or handmade flat breads that hit the spot - one visit and you’ll be HOOKED.

Haha yeah! The falls were pretty that day, they also didn't pan around to the eye sore on the other side of the river ... but I actually do appreciate this video, they talked about things I didn't even know about

well i wouldn't say growing. But at least its not losing people. People move and people come in and just keeps it around the same population. And then some people come back. And athen leave again. LOL WF Has been pretty close to the same Population since the late 70's.

I own my own company which allows me some freedom to be fairly remote. Wichita Falls is not my first choice, plus I do already own land in San Angelo, however I was interested in some of their historical homes. I will keep those points in mind, thanks. @@WillBilly425

I love Wichita Falls. The Ranch Roundup being out at the old Mounted Patrol arena was always one of our favorite things to do.
What a fun episode! Would never have thought Wichita Falls was known for cycling and gourmet chocolate. Always interesting to hear how these establishments got started.

Casa Mañana isn't my jam, but my relatives love that place though. It ain't bad. But as far as Mexican food joints go, Gutierrez downtown-ish on MLK is the best tasting breakfast burritos I've ever had. Those suckers are huge & surprisingly very cheap. Bacon or chorizo w/ egg, cheese, & beans is the way to go. I know it's not Tex-Mex like Casa Mañana, but for me it's my weekly go to place after I get off work in the mornings. Also, Luigi's & Mia's are 2 top tier legit Italian establishments as well. You gotta come back to the Falls my friend.

When they complete their outdoor beer garden they’re about to begin constructing…then so. The Tv show would not have skipped past Wichita Brewery if it had an outdoor beer-garden that catches eyes across from the Hook & Ladder they visited.

I've lived here for years and never knew we had half of this stuff. One thing not mentioned is we have a very strong town rivalry against our two schools rider and old high. That's what a few people know us for is that big rivalry game
You're forgetting Hirschi as well but that all ends next year when the super schools open up.
@xicledragon I only mentioned rider and oldhigh because there the only 2 schools in town that play each other with the big game. Rider played hirschi only once in the last 4 years and that was during covid when both teams had someone cancel
Next year the rivalry will be…memorial vs legacy high schools…lol.

@@Aresie271 never should have been. Rider and old high school have lived on. Hirschi should have just lived on as a magnet school. Eventually the town is going to grow. and will need a larger 3rd high school.

Electric scooters in downtown have become my go-to thing to do here. Feels safer than the huge cities that have rental scooters too.

The fact that ya'll didn't go to Ronnies Hamburgers, Scotts Drive Inn, or Parkway grill. Ya'll didn't see where true wf people go to. At least yall went to Casa Manana and P2. You should almost take another Day trip to check out Scotts drive inn alone. Its like going back to a true 50's drive inn.

We love watching your shows. When did you shoot this episode? But are disappointed Per Google the Wrestling Museum and Hall of Fame is permanently closed. Tried calling the number listed it has been discontinued. Guess we will have to drive by address next week while we are in town to make sure.
This was Season 10, so about 3ish years ago. It must be a Covid casualty.
I live here and the Wrestling museum closure is a sad story. The owner died and his family shut the museum down. Rumor has it his sister stole money or something shady went down and it never opened back up.
The woman who owned the littlest sky scraper looks like she put on a different wig and talked a bit different and was the same owner of the red taco place

You have to have Salt too. It’s not nearly as good without salt in your tomato juice & beer.
@@TheDaytripper P2’s famous drink is their “special” which is beer, tomato juice, and spicy stuff. You guys only had beer and tomato juice so that is called a “red-draw”. They sell significantly less of that than they do their “special”

The real, best tacos in Wichita Falls belong to Gutierrez family restaurants Birria tacos. Hole in the wall, but the best Mexican food in town. Casa Manana isn't even top 5 in wichita falls.

I've lived here over 20 years and frankly I hate it. Boring city the only redeeming feature is that it has an excellent university for the price MWSU. Just graduated and plan to move elsewhere soon. No job opportunities here whatsoever.

Wichita Falls has an ugly downtown, dated looking. But not only that but Wichita Falls and most of NW Texas has one of the ugliest landscapes you will find anywhere.
