The USA doesn't want that and the push back is coming in through governments. Either by loby, threat or by bribe. I don't think our governments can do a thing about it. It's a war in our Country over our resources that has nothing to do with Canada. A new government could change things but likely time will be the only fix. When I was a young child back in the early to mid 50s my parents burned coal and wood and the house was hot but very dangerous and the walls were dirty with soot. Today we have oil and gas which is the better to heat and I prefer oil which is much safer than gas. Our climate in Canada is extreme cold and it costs a lot of money to run a home.

I want the transition to a greener economy as well. In the short term, that means running the pipeline to Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick and BC's coast. We have too many needs for oil for us to just stop using it overnight, so in the shorter term I am in favour of eastern Canada employing the military in building this pipeline rather then defending pipelines in Syria and Afghanistan. Last time I checked we are also importing 700 000 barrels of oil PER DAY into eastern Canada! Saudi Arabia and Algeria seem like fine places but I rather fill up my tank from a domestic supply for now.
I do believe in Solar panels and wind turbines and batteries but the transition will not happen over night and in the mean time I rather pull our military back home and stop fighting in oil and pipeline wars. Batteries are not good or cheap enough yet for me to be wiling to go fully electric on my next car. I will buy a plug in hybrid. The gas I will still buy and the plastics in my life and the roads I drive on will still need to be made from oil so yes a pipeline is a better solution then oil wars for that supply.
I want that pipe to be well made though, so please if you are working on the pipe, do a good job, I am counting on you!

    Carbon
dioxide is a trace gas present at 430 ppm in our atmosphere. It consists of a
carbon atom and two oxygen atoms ... hence it is called carbon dioxide. It is
not called carbon by anyone who knows even a bit about science. Carbon Dioxide
is a greenhouse gas. It absorbs longwave radiation at 2.3, 4.7, and 15
micrometers. Carbon Dioxide has a slow emissivity ... it doesn't have time to
radiate energy and instead it gives off heat when it expands according to the
gas law and collides, transferring heat by convection, with millions of oxygen
    and nitrogen molecules. The earth
radiates heat across the entire longwave radiation spectrum ... the amount of
energy available at Carbon Dioxide's absorption spectrum is limited. The effect
of CO2 as a greenhouse gas is logarithmic; its going to cause most of the
warming at lower concentrations and not so much at higher concentrations. Some
studies suggest the greenhouse gas effect is close to saturation ... so if you
double (860 ppm) or even triple (1290 ppm) the amount of carbon dioxide you
won't get much more warming effect. The best estimate of warming by increased
Carbon Dioxide thought to have originated from human activity amounts to about
1.7 watts per meter squared ... or about 1% of the energy radiated by the earth
in any given quantum of time. This is just one of many different atmospheric
processes that affect the heat budget. There is no way to determine how much if
any of the recent modest warming (0,8C since 1880) can be attributed to rising
levels of CO2. Carbon taxes are not based on science.
