If you put the club flat on the ground, the club may close because the toe hits the ground and not the heel. Tom explains why it is better to set the iron golf club a bit on its heel.

      That is not because of the lie.? There are only 4 main thing that can have that effect.
      1. the shaft spine alignment is vertical or incorrect.
      2. Shaft is to weak for your swing speed.
      3. your your body rotation is quicker than your arms.
      4. your gripping the club to tight, and your hand will not release.

    Remember people, even though he’s correct, this is not correct for everyone.
    HOW TO USE LIE ANGLE:
    1-Toe down at impact pushes the ball right and toe up pulls to the left.
    2-create a repeatable shot shape and adjust the lie to create the desired flight.
    3- flat at impact isn’t correct , it’s just neutral.
    4-every pro uses lie angle to create the flight needed.
    Example- I draw the ball. My lie is 1deg flat so I miss straight and not left.
    You are all welcome.

    • @NG-tz8wo
      @NG-tz8wo ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I think most would disagree with this. The club is designed to hit flat but with forward shaft lean. Hitting the heel or toe first will cause bad results. Pros alter their swing path to create shape

    • @danwhitehurst9592
      @danwhitehurst9592 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@NG-tz8wo you do realize that when the club hits the ball it isn’t touching the ground right. Also , every pro uses lie angle to fine tune direction.
      I’ve been to 4 major manufacturers headquarters here in Carlsbad. None of them check if the club if flat on the ground because that’s not correct. They’ll adjust upright to move the shot grouping left and flat to move it right. That’s how you’re supposed to use lie angle. Trust me I fit for a living

    • @NG-tz8wo
      @NG-tz8wo ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danwhitehurst9592 so when they test the clubs they use iron Byron correct? Do the manufacturers test the heel or toe hitting first or does the club impact square?

    • @danwhitehurst9592
      @danwhitehurst9592 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NG-tz8wo they actually test contact in numerous places on the face. They’ve also done numerous tests to see what spec changes does what to the ball flight.
      As far as using it in a fitting aspect with people, lie angle is used to change the direction of the ball and the fact that the toe or heel may be a bit down doesn’t have a negative. Unless the ball flight isn’t what you want. It’s the same reason slicers buy draw biased drivers.
      That’s how good players get straight ball flight. They create a consistent shot shape and then use other parts of the club to cancel out a bit or all of that shape.
      For me I hit a high draw. So my club adjustments are a little flat lie angle, shafts a bit too stiff grips a bit too big. I don’t do much else. I found out what parts of the club I’m most sensitive to and adjusted them to help dial in my ball flight perfectly.

      I have 6 in handicap and I don't buy what this clown is saying one bit, those are irons and he uses a fucking ultra flex shaft to prove his point.
      There is almost no flex in iron shafts even if you're kyle berkshire. It shouldn't even matter how you let the club sit on the ground, it's how you move the head through the swing.
      A 1000x times better way to become good at golf is mastering fade and draw so you can really control your distances, since a draw is about 2clubs longer than a fade with the same club. Most irrelevant golf tip I've seen in my life, may work for some but for the wrong reasons.

    Remember Hanz and Franz from Saturday Night Live? "Hear me now and believe me later." I was told this years ago and thought it was ridiculous. After seeing photos of the shaft bend just before impact I became a believer. Next time you go to the range, give this a try. You may not get quality strikes immediately, but give it a chance. You'll be glad you did.

    Oh OK: shaft flex on the downswing makes the club “shorter” in practice, therefore the shaft needs to come by a bit closer to yourself (than the setup) to still reach the ball, and the closer angle makes the club go flat on the ground during the swing

      youve clearly never seen a golf swing in slomo, you can even see the shaft bend in real time on heavy hitters like DeChambeau. Why do you think shafts come in different stiffnesses? they bend dude

    The instruction manual that came with my set of clubs conveniently left this out. The instructions on installing a window fan failed to omit a vital piece of information and my fan never worked correctly until i figured it out on my own. Manufacturers need to write clearer instructions.

    Static lie angle vs. dynamic. Which is another reason why a good fitter will check sole impact and adjust accordingly based on how the player loads the shaft.

    Correct in a conventional swing. The single plane swing is flat and has less corrections to make in the down swing

    No one has ever seen Ping’s color coded irons. Each different color denotes a different lie angle for their iron sets. Black is standard, I use orange, which is two degrees flatter that standard. I have short legs, but long arms, so my hands sit lower than most people my height.

    I set up pretty flat. My loft a lie measurements are always good, and I have no issue with leaking right. If anything, I miss with a block or an overdraw. Saying it will help a slice is always safe because most higher handicap golfers come over the top and play with a wicked slice.

    especially for guys like me. I have an upright swing and when I tend to put pressure on my toes I can feel the toe of the club want to dig in on me. Mizuno is also known to be flat so check your lie angle

    Before modern club fitting in loft and Lai machines, everyone did that. With the old ball you play draw that way, but it doesn’t work with the new bolster. Take copious notes and make the changes. It’s called turf interaction with the new ball then just get a hook.

    Another variable is that most players don’t return their hands to the exact same place as they were at address. They are either higher or lower. My guess is most are higher

    I have always laid the soul flat and always seem to fade it slightly. I started doing this recently and it straighten out my shots. Maybe it’s different for everyone, but if you have a tendency to fade, this could work for some. Worth trying.

    Never thought of the club shaft rebounding down. Also changes the feel of the club of the toes up.

    • @CamaroKidd2022
      @CamaroKidd2022 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe the shaft would have to rebound upward to make the face flat to the ground on impact. The shaft bends backwards during the downswing so I believe this tip is just another tip to make a video.

    it doesn't matter if your club is square or not. There are so many factors comes into play from shaft to swing plane etc...
