Great job Gary! Now add the AIU (Accessory Interface Unit) to control all your remote switches, lighting in buildings and other accessories for total control...
Great video Gary. I'm glad you got it working. Hope you have fun with it. btw, I'm not sure why it says REL, when you run, it should have a number that increases or decreases showing your speed, in speed steps. I love that Challenger, and seems like your trains are all running well.
Hi Gary!! Enjoyed your new Video, I switched to DCS from conventional a few months ago and I love it. Thanks for the info...I Learned a lot from your video keep em coming Frank
Hello I noticed you said your din conector does not have a snug fit.Well when I bought my mth din conector it had 4 extention screws that screw on to your conector ends and then screw into the tiu which does make a tight fit.
I don't know about the REL button, it is not on my MTH Locomoitves. However, I figured out, as long as you have power going to fixed in one, or aux, you can set the vairiable track to a certain voltage, leave it there and it will allow you to run command control along with conventional, if you vary the volts you can control the speed of conventional, and if you have enough power to the track you can also run command on the same track. I'm unsure of the screws.
Hi Gary. Love your layout. I just started converting my small Lionel set to MTH using DCS. I am still using my fast track and my layout is some what small right now. Only 8FT by 4FT with 2 inner loops (all on same track) I am currently using the TIU and only using the power brick from my old lioncheif on the AUX on the AIU. Was not getting power so I hooked a 2nd power brick (same lioncheif) directly to the tracks. As long as I have the AIU and remote on and then plug in the power for the tracks, It will allow me to start up the engines. Everything seems fine but can't run more than 2 engines with more than just a few lighted cars without the power skipping (I guess I don't have enough juice) As I took more light cars off one at a time, everything started working. My question is, I just ordered a z1000 power brick. Do I now ad this to the AUX on the TIU or plug it to the input side on the right to he corresponding direct across to the output that goes to the track..? And obviously take off the power that's hooked directly to the track using one of the small lioncheif transformers..?
+Richard Rasp / Hi Richard • You gave me a hardball question. I would say called MTH Technical Support at 410-381-2580 or send them an email at service@MTH-Railking.com • Thanks for watching and commenting. 🚂
thanks for helping me see the light...mine is still sitting in the box because i so con fused with all the wiring things that i just give up ...i might just take it out to try again...
Mark Loppe Hi Mark • Yes - A lot of wires, it look like Chaos, but if you follow the pages I show from the Manual, it should all come together. I now have 19 engines running on MTH / DCS Remote. Thanks for watching and commenting. Take it out of the box, Good Luck.
Hi Riggy 475 • I am not an electrical engineer, Lionel trains & MTH is a very simple installation. Just read the the "Instructional Manual" - If issues come up, both companies have Tech. help phone numbers & videos on YT. Cheers from Michigan.
Hello, I have a KW and Z4000 I would like to hook up to my DCS System. I have a TIU and (2) Z1000 Power Bricks. See if this is the correct way to wire this up. I will be running a PS2 loco on loop #1 off the KW. And loops #2 and #3 off the Z4000 for my Prewar Lionel Locomotives. Each loop is independent of each other. First, I have the power brick wired to the AUX input on the TIU. Next, the KW, posts U and D (20 volt posts) wired the Fixed In #1. KW is in Conventional Mode or ENG mode. Next, I have the Z4000 Right handle wired to VAR In #1 and the left handle wired to VAR In #2. Both transformers are in phase. Then, I obviously have the output channels wired to loops #1, #2 and #3. I have the throttles on the Z4000 set to full throttle. Sound like the right way to wire this up?? I will be using 12 AWG stranded wires. Also, a resettable circuit breaker between the KW and TIU on the Red Power line. Let me know. Thanks, Jeff
+lionel2100 Hi Jeff, this is a link to the MTH - DCS Manual mthtrains.com/sites/default/files/download/instruction/20as14017i.pdf Thiis the complete manual for the TIU & DCS, this is what you see in the video. It would be best if you save this pdf file to your desktop to read or maybe print. Hope this helps. I use 14GA Stranded wire.If you do not have the phone number to MTH Tech Support drop me a private YT message. They are closed this week for the holiday break. Good Luck & Happy New Year. Gary 🚂
I've had this system for over five years but I always learn something new watching others. Thanks for the videos.
Hi Rd B: Thanks for watching my videos and I do the same, watching other layouts & real trains from all over the world. Gary 🚂

Are you using a Lionel ZW-C transformer since you have bricks for power? Nice layout.
HI Greg: Yes - Lionel ZW-L with 4 / 180 watt bricks, one for each main line. Thanks for watching.Train Room Gary 🚂

Nice one Gary I am not familiar with your system , but works well
What brand of track are you running on?
Hi Randy Fowler: I am using K-Line, shadow rail. No longer in production. Thanks for watching. Gary 🚂
Very nice! It looks complicated.
Clearly this guy is an electrical engineer
