    The thing is, I don’t have a problem that Brandy caters to smaller people, it’s that they don’t advertise it like that, and just say “one size fits all”. Plus size stores advertise as a store for bigger women, while Brandy doesn’t and just acts like they have the average size. They also only have one size, while plus size stores have many. They could make so much more money even if they just went from like and xx small to a size 2 or 4, so I don’t understand why they don’t.

      This! They should advertise as a petites shop, since petites do often find it difficult to find clothing that fits also.

      @Lil Chicken There are several problems with Brandy's approach, including the fact that they ostracize people of color. It's great that people who are petite (including myself) have a place to buy trendy fast fashion pieces, but no one should have to suffer just because of who their target demographic is (skinny white girls). A lot of people who aren't in this demographic are made fun of and taunted by Brandy workers because management actually tells them to do so. I visited Brandy Melville's US website and found that there is only ONE girl of color on the entire website (I checked September 2019) I will be updating this comment later

    people keep saying “but there are plus size stores” okay but brandy currently is trendy and its targeting teen girls. There are girls who want to fit in so they use unhealthy ways to lose weight.

    • @amapola9202
      @amapola9202 4 ปีที่แล้ว +285

      Tamy Mondragon also people seem to forget that plus size stores always offer a range of sizes. Like you never see a plus size store that has just one size, they usually go from 12/14 to like 22/24 or something like that. BM doesn’t do that, so if they were trying to cater to “slim petite girls” they would still probably have like xxs, xs, s or something like that. Also petite in fashion means short, and Brandy is not really a store for short girls, it’s really just a store for skinny girls.

      janiah bramble ah yes, succumbing to the aesthetic and ideology pushed onto young girls from a very young age and subconsciously manipulating them to feel bad for their bodies and to want to join an elitist, exclusive group of the group deemed ‘pretty’ to be accepted is totally their choice. yes. it’s not as if the brand targets TEENAGERS with ages that have the highest rates of developing EDs instead of skinny/petite women. no. it’s totally the girl’s fault. it’s the fault of anybody who develops an eating disorder, or wants to fit in, or wants to be able to wear the clothes their friends, idols, and influencers wear. it’s totally their fault.
      where the fuck do you think that thought process stems from?

Clothes were too small for me, and the dressing rooms didn't even have mirrors! I had to come outside to look at myself, only to see how hideous I looked in those small clothes. But the fact is mass production of one size is far cheaper and easier, and that way they don't have to consider how the clothes will look on different sizes or body shapes. They wouldn't be any richer because let's be real, their main demographic is skinny teenage white girls, and that probably wouldn't change.

    This is so sad because Brandy is one of the only brands that fit me perfectly, I’m skinny and tall, my waist is tiny but I have full medium sized breasts. Most stores feel too big in my waist and pants/ jeans are too small and look ugly bc they show my ankles when their fit is not supposed to. I have to choose between wearing a tight belt all the time of having awkward length jeans. T-shirts either feel too tight on my chest or awkward because I’m skinny but still have boobs. I feel bad supporting them but it’s one of the only stores that actually fits me and makes me feel cute. They should state that their clothing fits one particular body type instead of their “one size fits all” bs. They know damn well their promoted body type isn’t even the majority so I don’t understand where they took it from when promoting it fits everyone

      It is an Italian brand. Italians are caucasians. They are likely looking to create the 'Italian' image. This would not be seen as a problem if it was an african brand wanting their models to have african features, or an asian brand wanting asian features. White cultures are the only ones that 'needs diversity' or is shamed for creating a 'caucasian' image. Apparently, it is empowering for every other culture in the world, because it 'celebrates their culture'. But white cultures are called all sorts of things if they do the same.
      Same goes for size. If they want to make clothing of only a specific size, let them. There are many other brands with different sizes, who makes awesome clothes. I don't understand why people are so obsessed about body size. It is about proportions and posture, not weight. Every single body have the potential to look its best, if it is well taken care of. Some body types look their best tall and lean, other body types look their best with an hourglass figure. There are different ways to be beautiful. People need to stop worrying that not every piece of clothing is going to fit/look good, and start figuring out what compliments their own features the best, and bring your their own beauty; not someone else's.

      @@HereIAm247 First of all, that's bullshit. Let me tell you why. If the store was really based on Italian aesthetics, why wouldn't their clothes reflect that? Their clothes are basic fast fashion and their store interiors don't reflect an "italian vibe" either. Also, since when were all Italians, skinny and pasty? Cuz last I checked, Italians from southern Italian are very tan, like almost as tan as me and I'm black. Why? Because they're in the sun constantly. Are all Italians skinny? Not the last time I checked. Italians also have differing a wide range of features. There isn't an Italian nose or hair color or eyes. Italy isn't a homogeneous population like say, Norway. So for the love of God stop using that as an excuse for Brandy's discrimination, colorism and racism. Cheers.

    I used to work at Brandy Melville. I was 16 when I started working there, and I was 134.9 lbs. And, no offense, I was the ONLY African American girl working there. I definitely stood out, as the girl that wore box braids and had worn the same pair of rainbow vans with almost every outfit, versus the girls with long golden tresses of hair and could fit into anything they wanted to. When I started working there, I definitely felt insecure. I was: 1. A black girl working in a store with pretty, white girls with long hair, 2. A little bit *thicker* than the other girls, and 3. Never really could fit some of their clothes. I became anorexic, practically, started eating way less, or at nothing at all, and if I did, it was literally just a health TV dinner and that would be it. I lost a lot of weight, and by thing time I got to my 3 month employee status, I weighed 100.2 lbs. I had to do into the intensive care unit and stay there and get fed through an IV just to stay alive. And obvi, I stopped working there after all of this happened. I even tried to get lawyers involved, but instead got blackmailed by the manager of the store I worked and, and said that since they had so much *power* over me, they could publicly humiliate me. So I did nothing.
    GIRLS! if you shop and brandy, fine. But just know, your putting yourself up for a world of disaster if you trust them as much as I did. And idc what you have to say about me, by it’s MY story.

    Who cares? They're a private company - they aren't obligated to "fit" everyone. And the fact that you keep bringing race into this is so biased. There are plenty of other races who fit this body type that I'm sure Brandy Melville would hire since they seem to hire based on body, not on features. Clearly people like them since they keep buying them. Maybe you should be less insecure and live in reality - you aren't entitled to a private company just "accepting" you the way your body type is. They clearly don't make clothes for whatever your "body type" is. Just don't buy from them. And why you would ever let a private company dictate how you feel about your body? That's on YOU, not them.

    • @n.p.2054
      @n.p.2054 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They market as a One Size Fits All store for all body types, and there are many examples of hiring discrimination. You’re clearly white yourself, and therefore have no right telling other POC women that they should not have opinions about it. They have an image to keep up, and those models fit Eurocentric beauty standards. This didn’t come out of nowhere. These standards have been in place for centuries due to Imperialism and colonization. Why don’t you start living in the real world, then? These are real problems that you will never experience.

      Curvy as In fat or curvy as in dents in all the right places? Because this calling yourself curvy when your fat or over weight is not good promotion

      @@dreamw864 She said medium sized. A size medium is not fat. And curvy bodies are more common in African and Latina women, so I'm pretty sure she means curvy in the good way. :)

      Sadly they really do, fr tho their clothes are basic af. I don't think people should buy from them at all - certain clothes look cheap.

      etrnlapricot exactly, they look cheap, cost a lot of money for that matter, they’re super basic and you can find the same look for less somewhere else. I really don’t understand how this brand is so popular, the clothes are nothing special, like if they had that one size policy but their clothes were somehow unique or a very different style that is hard to replicate or find somewhere else, I would still not like their policies but I would kinda get why they are so popular... but like, clothes are basic af

      +18 years old girls can be hella skinny though lol yeah, might look like kids' clothes to people who don't fit into them but they exist and they're not children.

      Honestly it was what drew me to them as someone who was 23 when I bought them. It made me nostalgic for when I was 8, life was simpler. However my body was not, needless to say I don’t buy anything from them anymore

      @alexismiirial You're not fat just because you can't fit into the smallest of clothes. I'm sure you're beautiful. Don't hold yourself to unrealistic standards.

    Next experiment for me to do this leisure time : walk into Brandy looking like a designer while being plus size and basically looks at their item like it's the absolute shit
