    When I first started playing Fire Emblem Three Houses, I was so captivated by the music that every time I would hear a new song I would have to stop playing and listen. With Fodlan Winds, As Swift As Wind, and especially when I first stepped into Garreg Mach Monastery. You're introduced to this beautiful campus full of characters waiting for you to meet, all accompanied to this bright, optimistic happy tune. Unfortunately things don't stay that way for long, and as the scenery around us grayed, I found myself missing those simpler and more innocent times that this song reminded me of. But after completing the game (Golden Deer for my first run, obviously :) and starting a new game, it's all brought back to you and you get to see all your friends again! With art, I try to match feelings with the context of the piece, but in order to portray that accurately I relate it to something that I've experienced that everyone else can relate to as well. And with our current situation in the world, I know we find ourselves wishing we could go back to simpler times. Unfortunately there is no new game plus in the real world. Sorry, not a happy ending to the song or to this little paragraph, I'm a bit more of a realist than that. I suppose, recognize when you are in the simpler times, enjoy it, and think back on it. Who knows, one year from now we could be thinking, "I wish I could go back to (current time). Things were much less complicated back then." Rather than the opposite "(Past year) is finally over, there's no way it could get worse than this!" that many like to participate in at the end of each year.

      Wind quintet and drum battery is one of my favorite combos that would be soo hard to balance well in a real space

      Bassoonify As someone who grew up around winds and battery, a single battery snare can outpower a whole wind ensemble LMAO

    ngl, the bass and hi-hat timbres earlier in the arrangement make me forget that you're using battery percussion when I passively listen.

    • @Bassoonify
      @Bassoonify  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, true. I love the 'busy-ness' that battery percussion gives as well as all the different sounds you can get with rods, rims, different techniques. For the kick I've been experimenting creating one with Massive with some envelopes over LFO stuff, something that is a bit more out of the frequency content of a wind quintet. When I first played this game and arrived at Garreg Mach I was really taken to that 'ratchet' sound of the hihat, almost like you'd hear in hiphop this decade? Writing 'percussion' to accompany wind quintet is an interesting adventure, although it would be really weird to make work in real life, I probably wouldn't try it haha.

    Saw your FFXIV starting zones video and cannot stop watching now. Really awesome arrangements! Any advice on getting involved or starting a wind ensemble (post covid times)?

    • @Bassoonify
      @Bassoonify  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, much appreciated! That's a good question. With these musicians we more or less saw each other's videos and started asking each other to record for one another's videos! Meeting new people and networking is tricky, and in person ensembles definitely can be difficult lining up everyone's schedules. Performing music you all like helps keeping people together. And when that music doesn't quite exist yet for the ensemble you have available, someone's gotta write it! I guess a lot of my arranging started out as a frustration for the lack of quality fun arrangements for wind quintet for music I enjoyed.
