I loved how they were moving like having a conversation with each other throughout the whole piece
I never thought of that, and now that i see it it is very aestheticly pleasing

It's called theatrics. Maybe I have made that word up, but I used it in the past.
When the oboe and bassoon came together it was beautiful. It was like to siblings coming together
It’s actually a very smart move on there part as all the different melodies can be confusing so facing the other with the same melody can really help stay in time

i dont see any clarinet appreciation so i'll just say his tone, altissimo, and ability to project or blend is totally incredible. all of them are amazing obviously, just wanted to show a little love for my instrument family lol
You is right about the clarinet, it has a tone you can hang your coat on. Timing is very good.

This melody is an absolute masterpiece. If you close your eyes, you can imagine all sorts of scenarios with people, places, romance, dance or even animals playing.
For me, that inspiration is what tells a masterpiece - whether musical or art - from the good and the great.
I've always imagined it played on an accordion near a Parisian cafe. Waltz in a minor key - absolute musette style.

Agreed. its one of, if not the most flexible and versatile wind instrument
What an absolutely exquisite and imaginative orchestration! The colors are astounding as is the totally complimentary ensemble-making. They all feed off of each other! Wow! I want to also point out the exquisite contrapuntal lines running throughout with perfect taste and balance, never obscuring the always-present main melodic line.
Also, can we all just stop and relish on Shostakovich's exquisite melodies and harmonies?! He was not just the quintessential avant-garde Russian composer. He could grab your heart and soothe it, too! What a refined taste!

By far the best performance of this piece I am able to find. Incredible how mamy colours you can get with wind quintet.
