    I remember the first time I met Mr. Werner, I was driving for them on the flatbed division, I was in Phoenix AZ, got loaded with pipe, was tarping the load as we were supposed to, he was there as a fellow driver, 2 local drivers were there, me and Mr. Warner was helping each other tarp the loads, when he noticed the local drivers not tarping thier load, he ask them are you gonna tarp those loads? Both drivers said nope, what they don't know won't hurt them. 45 min later we were at the Phoenix yard, he went got a shower changed cloths came into the driver lounge where me and the local drivers was sitting, he looked at those drivers dead in the face said your fired. I about fell over in my chair. He was a great man, I do miss working for Werner enterprises but I don't miss the Hassel for the OTR driving.

    I ran for Werner a long time ago.... I remember stopping into the museum when it was just trucks.... There was a sign there then that gave more specs on the 359 with the 3412 Cat in it. The hood was stretched 16 inches and the cab and sleeper were moved back to accommodate this. The hood opens with two air actuators because it weighs too much to open by hand. It's sweet looking, but I would hate to have to back a 53' van into a hole with that long wheel base tractor.

    Was a great company to work for. I was a mechanic for them for 2 years they just dont seem to care about the drivers or the mechanics at all if wee needed something we got ignored i do miss the people was amazing to watch and hear all the drivers stories and to help them get back out on the road.

    My wife and I spent 10 1/2 years at Werner, from 1992-2002. We made a LOT of money there, bought our first truck there, etc. But it's not the company it once was. Since CL (who I have sat and talked with several times) is no longer running the day-to-day business, those at the top do not have the driver foremost in their concerns. That can be proven by the fact that they essentially starved us out after a perfect safety and delivery record for all of those years.

    The Classic XL near the end has a V16 in it. I passed it one day on I35 heading north out of Dallas back in 1998. I was getting on the highway right next to it in my pickup and I noticed it had the longest hood I've ever seen on a Classic, then I saw the "V16" painted on the hood. The sound of the motor was like no other I'd ever heard in a big truck. I wish I could have drove it!

  • @woodencoasterfan

    That depends on which truck you're talking about. Most trucks do have a bunk bed and lots of storage space as well a electrical hook up for TV, DVD payer, electric cooler/small refrigerator. It all depends on what you want if you're looking to buy your own truck. On the other hand, if you're a company driver like I am, you'll get what they assign to you.

    The trailer for the dragsters were over in the truck lot and looked nice with the paint job on it from a distance. I didn't get close to it. At the time I was there, the v16 wasn't being driven much from what a mechanic said only one or two guys were actually allowed to drive it.

    • @Romans--bo7br
      @Romans--bo7br 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Can't understand why he'd be heavy on the steering.... a 3412 "Only" weighs between 5,300 and 5,600 lbs... depending on original setup (industrial or marine), and options on the engine (turbo(s), inter or aftercooling, etc, etc). That "extended" hood Freightshaker (Re: "Recruiting Truck") he's got with the 16V92 weighs less than that boat anchor 3412 Cat he has in the Pete.... at around 4760 lbs, and that would be with twin turbos (though, without inter or aftercooling) and rated at 1350HP.... compared to that Cat at 5,400 lbs in the Pete, and only rated at 750 hp,
      in the configuration as set up in his Pete.

Pretty cool looking truck don't know what it's got power wise but it's a nice looking truck. Sean Buller Biology doesn't give a hoot about your rules. You sound like a bureaucrat, with that one size fits all mentality. Man that starts in grammar school doesn't it? Make all the kids the same, rather than tailor things to their individual strengths. I'll never understand why people like you look at humanity and see a flock of robots, all the same, to all be treated the same, rather than a whole bunch of individuals with individual strengths and weaknesses. Me, I used to be much safer and liked running better with split logging. I could run 5, take some time off and nap, run another 5, and so on.
      They took the split logging away and I sucked at running 10+ hours in one shot. No way am I as safe this way. Other guys might do better, not me. And that's one example of the one size fits all way of thinking that seems so common and quite frankly a copout, is a failure.
      I really abhor that dictator kind of mindset, where "I know best! Everyone must do it my way! You peasants have no idea what is best for you!"

He's also a million (accident-free) miler, would be 2 million if werner wasn't pathetic and charging him for getting stuck in a graded over drainage ditch. He's a old timer driver and werner works legally hard to replace them with new trainees, hence why he's making $0.27 after 16 years and 2 million plus miles. FTR C.L. is leaving in May.

      @@shortthrow50 Actually, I wasnt drunk. The reason it didn't work out at Werner enterprises is because I had difficulty backing a trailer into a parking spot/dock safely. It was gonna take time to improve. When I was at LCT transportation, a company based in Okahumpka, Florida, my backing skills improved. I got out and looked as many times I needed to, took my time, if if took me longer to back into a parking spot, even if I had to do it in bad weather or total darkness, I did whatever it took to get my rig in right. As far as Werner enterprises is concerned, if they came my way again, I'll consider applying again. If not, no big deal. There are other companies out there.

    When I first started driving CDL in 1998 I went to Werner and they offered me a firm .18 cents per mile
    I got hired on with the former owners of Bee Line freight for .28 per mile
    After 5 years of working for them around 2003 and at the pay rate of .32 per mile I went back to Werner with some experience
    they offered me .22 per mile
    I said you know I'm making .32 right now why would I come to work for you for less
    They said "we have nice trucks" lolz

    @yoyomann86 keyword is "worked" and "was"....modern day werner ain't your old skool werner. Company has been going into the dumps for some years now. If you like to travel the country in a piece of crap truck for weeks on end and get paid less than someone flipping burgers at mcdonalds, werner is looking for you. Inexperienced drivers preferred (werner gets gov money for training and experienced drivers want to much money).

    @2007Peterbilt379 26 cents? You must be one of the old timers. With cost of living increases as well as inflation werner has decided to pay the new drivers less than what the older drivers started at. Don't forget Werner Cares.

    • @tylerbuckley8963
      @tylerbuckley8963 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Killer2600 actually Werner uses the sliding pay scale in 2008 start pay for me was 34 cpm as long as I stayed in the 2000 mile boundery of 11 Western States but the game they play is having the regional drivers drive over their bounderies so they did not have to pay the full 34 cpm and that was pay rate of 23cpm

    @KeepitGHOE dont hide your feelings tell us how you really feel, i was leased there for some time,,, and did pretty good,, only quit cause i had to be home for family reasons,,, as with any company its what you make it, if you whine and cry, like you seem to be doing,, then you wont go anywhere,, if you do your job and act like a professional,,, you may get somewhere,if you cant take the good with the bad in trucking,,, whether its weather or bad loads or whatever,then get out of it!
