It’s because of Greg that I bought my first kayak this year. 2024 Native Slayer Propel 10 Max.
I think Greg is the best walking advertisement y’all have! Everyone buys one because of him. I ask everyone I see in one on the water “you watch GB” “YES SIR!”
I got a native after watching Greg's videos for over a year. That was almost three years ago and I still fish off my native more than my boat. Great ambassador to any fishing product. Also, the one time I needed Native's customer service, they were quick to respond and sent me replacement parts without any delay.
HA! I am mid 40's and i've been beating the banks for years!!!! I stumbled upon Greg about a year before the pandemic. Needless to say after the pandemic started and everything was on lock down I bought a native Titan 10.5 I fish out of this so much and love it.
Just bought a Slayer Max 10, 8 hours ago. It was 100% because of his videos. So exited to get it out tomorrow, why waste time. Yolo
@@jasondahl7580 How do you like it?
Greg has the best kayak fishing channel! I have 2 slayers because of him!!
Nice vid Greg. Guy is a great ambassador for the sport.
Greg this is the show I was hoping you had done.
Motors or the three methods of propulsion, actually open the possibilities for folks who cannot otherwise get along and probably allows them to compete as well. Your boat is well organized. I think they have a Kayak that is a few feet longer and because I'm a coward, I like a bigger craft. My only question is how much rough water you can get through. Thanks for posting this, well thought out presentation!
Thanks Kerry! Absolutely and that's one of the reasons I love this particular kayak. Yep, you're probably referring to the Slayer max 12.5 or the kayak I most frequently use, the Titan 10.5 which also comes in a 12' version. You'd be surprised what these kayaks can handle. Speaking on the Titan 10.5 I can comfortably fish in pretty rough water (maybe 15 mph or less with gusts up to the same). 20 mph winds/gusts are doable and you won't feel as if you'll flip or anything but fishing in general when it gets that windy can just be tough. I've been in some pretty rough water and never felt as if I was going to flip the kayak.
Best kayak TH-camr on the net.
You can thank me for the railblaza wheels mod lol. I figured that out 6 years ago. Now they are standard on boonedox.
I want this Kayak so bad!! I wouldn’t mind that same exact set up. 🤙
Perfect!! I’ve been going around and around between the Titan 10.5, Slayer 12.5 and 10 Max. I believe you just gave me the courage to get the 10 MAX which is what I was leaning on based on the ability to transport.
One item I never see covered in reviews regarding these are tracking and paddling ability! Likely because they are peddle drive but I often go into very shallow waters and I struggle to find video footage of folks using a paddle with them from a decent angle or long enough to see how they do! This was a big concern with the Titan 10.5 for me, that unknown due to the extra width. Would be great to see a paddle battle between the smaller Titan and Slayer Max.
Thanks Native & Greg!
I don’t have a Titan but I struggled paddling on my old town 106 pdl which was 36inches wide. I have a much easier time paddling on my Slayer Max 10, u can tell instantly that it cuts water significantly better than the OT 106 pdl which is more similar to the Titan.
The Titan 10.5 IS a "Little Difficult" to paddle over pads and moss, as it has a very wide water-contact hull. I found it much easier to use a paddle 270 cm, to paddle mine. Of course, you younger guys have much more stamina and strength than me (I go out fishing at least 5 days a week in a 'Yak, 'cause I'm over 76 years old and been retired more than 13 years!). Lol... Bought my Titan after watching Greg for nearly a year, and that was 4 years ago. (Didn't know it would end up costing me nearly $50 to go fishing in one, as I had to get a new truck, 7 or 8 new fishin' poles, 13 Plano boxes filled with lures, etc...!). Haha!
I have the vibe sheerwater and really wish I would have bought this kayak. Being able to reverse/forward and kinda stay in one spot is so important. Not fighting to stay in one place with a paddle is heaven, I make it work though. Also i suv top that 87 pound kayak and it’s such a hassle doing that.
Instant reverse is a HUGE advantage.
You don’t really notice until you have a kayak and the wind is pushing you like a sail lol.
Im getting ready to upgrade to the oldtown 120. An will be looking into some accessories for it.
As much as I’d like to get into kayak fishing I can’t yet anyway make the move from my Ranger. I’m 66 and I’m just not sure how comfortable it would be on the back and everything fishing sitting down like that. Greg you do an awesome job on all your videos. Thank You !
I have several discs in my back fused together after breaking my back and I have this kayak and it’s amazing for me, the seat on this kayak is the main feature. Used to have a wilderness and sold it because of the seat. Native has the most comfortable seat along side jackson
Yo Greg why did you choose your fish finder on the left hand side? I see nost people mounting on the right. Also could you do a gopro setup and mounts video sometime? You da man!
Uvhhhh I need that tool pouch!!!
you need to do a video with the wizard and a kayak build
Is this taken at this guys house? looks like a tackle shop! Must be nice.
Sure would've bought the Slayer, if it was offered back 4 years ago (when Greg "talked me in to" buying the Titan 10.6...!).
(I'd get the "Spot-Lock" Old Town, but I'd give up the ability to peddle when I wanted to...!)
Great set up! I'm picking up a slayer max 12.5 Friday. I was wondering if you just use the rutter to steer? I didn't see foot steering on there.
Congrats on the new rig, Joe! Yep, all of my Native boats I use just the rudder to steer. The rudder control just left of the seat is super responsive and allows for fantastic boat control with all Native boats.
@Greg Blanchard thanks man, I've been trying to watch as many of your videos and in learning a lot from you. I'm looking forward to get out and put some work in and enjoy my pedal drive. Thanks for sharing and good luck, ill be watching and learning!
Such a sick setup! When are we getting a updated version of the Titan?
Greg - cool vids and thanks! I'm getting ready to dump my Sea Eagle 350FX and 2 300X inflatables and instead get a 2023 Slayer 10 Max. On yours in this vid why haven't you upgraded the rudder to the Slingblade version? Thanks. Steve
Nice, its such a great fishing kayak, I think you'll be really pleased. I really just haven't looked into it much. The tracking and steering is good as is imo but might be a worthy upgrade next season for me!
thank you for the tour. Is the transducer under the boat now?
There is a transducer mounting plate on the hull so you do not need to drill into the hull to mount the transducer.
Appreciate the review. I have a question about water coming in. Do you use scupper plugs? Does Native supply them or do you need to purchase them yourself?
The Slayer Max comes with scupper plugs installed from the factory.
Nice tires! What company?
These are just like the new No Float Wheels that we offer for the Sidekick: nativewatercraft.com/products/sidekick-no-float-wheel-kit These are new for 2023.
Hi brother so I ask you something I have one native kayak fishing but I don't know how to connect the fish finder
Hey Greg, I do have raymarine element 7.
Just wondering how long can 9ah last ? Coz I’m thinking to get 7.5 ah but worry that it wont last .
Can this kayak can be transported on roof rack with a J hook style kayak carrier? Can the seat be easily removed for this mode of transportation?
Curious if anyone knows how tall Greg is? Trying to decide between the 10 and 12.5 but need enough room to put my wilderness crate in the back and be able to peddle still.
Hi! How do you keep the motor straight once you have deployed it? I have issue pulling it up and dropping back down and staying straight. Running the same motor on a Slayer max 12.5 Thanks!
Hey Antonio! This video at the 7:45 mark shows exactly how I have mine setup for optimal deployment. th-cam.com/video/dxanh9aI0OI/w-d-xo.html
The other thing (and what I've done to all of my NK180's) is to take a 1 inch screw just below the steering triangle where there's a hole (where the locking pin goes) and set it in there. This obviously prevents you from adding any foot steering mechanism but that's how I like it and just steer with the rudder.
@@GregBlanchardFishing Cool! Yea I have a long cotter pin that I have resting in there but I've lost a few when I pull the motor up... A screw with a nut on the other end makes more sense. Have you optioned different motor heights? Or do you max it out all the way down? Thanks for the info, Greg! If you ever come down to Connecticut, lets fish!!
This may already be in the comments but I have noticed in several videos about this kayak, there is a lot of water at your feet This is the kayak want but is there a way around all the water ?
Will the area to mount the transducer allow for my side scan to work? And does the 10 track as well as the 13 footer? Speed?
The transducer will work with side scan. It depends mostly on how high or low you mount the transducer. Too high in the pocket and it might be partially blocked by the sides of the boat, but also be careful about how low you mount it so you aren't likely to hit the transducer with under water obstructions.
At 6’ 275lb, should I be looking at the 12.5?
Either would work for you, but we would lean you more towards the 12.5 for a bit more added space and stability at your size.
@@NativeWatercraft I guessed as much. Thanks for the prompt reply. How about that motor/battery combo, should I upsize the battery a bit? I retired from the army with disabilities and since, I’ve been maximizing time on the water… looking to start my own content here in Maine… should be a blast!
@@RealMitchRapp Awesome! For a bow mounted motor, we would recommend the MotorGuide Xi3 with our mounting plate. For stern, there are a couple options: Torqeedo Ultralight 403 A or 1103 AC and Newport Vessels NK180 primarily. Torqeedo comes with it's own motor. For the MotorGuide Xi3 or Newport, a 12v 54AH should last at least a long day or two of fishing - the 12v 100AH should last several days of fishing. Hope this helps!
@@NativeWatercraft It does, thank you very much
the most rare kayak to buy can’t find it North NJ😢
That actually looks like the NK300?
Nope, it's the NK180. Great fit for the slayer max models. I think the NK300 would be better suited for the Titan series.
If you know can you help me
