Great video, thanks for all that you do! Power steering is tempting, but A/C is more important to me. My two best friends are Norm and Max! Pretty sure the electric job will work for me, since I am not going big (keeping 29's). All of that is in the future, when my wallet will not attack me in my sleep.
My two favorite vehicles: Samurais and Astro Vans!!! I bought a used prius power steering on ebay a couple years ago, but have been hesitant to do it because of all the permanent mods for an iffy item. I like this idea much much better. My 87 Samurai has the OME springs with 235/75's, Is it possible to install the Astro steering on my simple set up or is this for the vehicles with the extended yj springs? Thanks!
The awd is a monster box overkill. Best to sleeve the frame with the big brute and yes the pitman arm is the same taper and spline count. I don’t do awd becuase of the hassle of the extra few inches fitting in a tight space.
That makes sense. I am running a dana 30 hi pinion out of a XJ jeep with a 1.9 mtdi. I have Ststem 3 35x10 XTR 370 tires. I'm in the middle of stretching it to a LWB (23.5 in). The front has cherokee long arm suspension. That's why I was considering the box. Plus I have it.
@@dockruzic keep pumps are usually tc style and around 1100 psi I specifically use the 1995 jeep Cherokee 4.0 if I am junk yarding. If building a new ps system- PSC or Trail-Gear have 1600 + psi. Power Steering Components is PSC there are lots of places that sell hi pressure pumps. The ASTRO box can take it.
I pulled 3 of them electric deals from a black Friday sale, 3 years ago....but still haven't brought myself to use them.
I dig this idea
All great info Myron, thanks for posting
Any time!
One of 2 channels I trust(and the other uses your stuff). You the man!!!
My pleasure
I have a Prius EPS system in my Samurai, but I am only running 33s. Thinking I’ll do this when I upgrade to 35s. Thanks MY for all you do!
This is a great system, looking forward to doing this
Definitely on my parts to do list!
love all the information , thank you
You are so welcome!
Thanks for another informative video!
You bet!
Awesome! Very detailed and effective explanations Myron. So glad you have taken on the project of getting this knowledge into user friendly videos!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Always learn something new I have been looking at putting power steering in, I was leaning to the ASTRO box and now I'm sold on it.
Awesome

Interesting setup indeed!
I will order your brakes this week
I stretched my frame 6" and toyota axles and Toyota ifs steering with a psc jeep pump. Works well with 36" swampers..
Good set up done it often on stretched frames to get it far enough out to clear pitman arm
Seems like the forward facing pitman arm would help with doing a front linked suspension with a panhard bar.
I have found a forward to be the best for my close to waterfall approaches in many different types of suspensions.
Very nice. I think that I will go for an Astro box
Good choice!
Nice setup
Thanks!

Thanks for sharing!
Interesting. So is the stock Samurai linkage a safety hazard since it won't collapse if in a wreck?
The stock rod collapses, those white spots that Myron said to drill out are what keeps it from sliding down normally
It takes a tremendous amount of energy to close the Samurai steering linkage. Head On collision bring that and more.
My. Awesome video! Thanks for all your knowledge & help.
I have an extra astro box. But it is AWD are the shafts interchangeable?

@@dockruzicthen you will like it. Just get a powerful pump and fyi it can be tapped for hydro assist
Any suggestions on the pump? I was thinking the pump from a WJ that had the hydro fan
