- Suzuki Samurai Electric Power Steering Upgrade!
I took our manual steering box Samurai and converted it to Electric Power Steering from a Toyota Prius! Easy DYI project or at least it was for my setup. Mine is on 33" super swampers so we needed some assistance. It was this or a rack and pinion setup. Pleased with the results! - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ

Thank you so much for this video it was very helpful because I had my samurai for 2.5 years and barely drove it because the steering is so hard u gave me more motivation to get it done and drive it more

You can put a u joint in place of the rag joint and believe it or not that u joint is called a rag joint eliminator.. Look it up on line..

best solution to this swap by far !!
I just added one to my Talbot camper van. Made my own couplings and brackets. I used the same unit as you but mounted it inside. What a difference so easy. My next project is fitting one to my willys jeep. You can pick the units up quite cheap in the UK about £30 to £40 complete with ecu. If you have a bit of an idea it can be done.
this is a great mod video. Though i'd like to point out that part of the reason it is so hard to turn your tires in the first place is because your aftermarket steering wheel is very small compared to the stock one. I can turn my 31's with one hand because the larger wheel gives you more leverage. Though turning in 4WD is still a core. Great video.

Sorry to hear that, must have been a weak link in steering box sounds like. Wonder if there’s a difference in the boxes from left to right hand drive?

this is some great how to info, i would like to to add power steering on a Yanmar 240 compact tractor, leave everything the same but just add steering wheel torque. thanks.

Great job. I was in the middle of converting with Rocky Road out fitters power steering kit and as usual the steering box and pump that they recommend are so antiquated that you can not find them. So low and behold through my search I came across this god send, so I ask, You wouldn't happen to have the part number for the steering unit and ECU. They do not seem to come as a set from Ebay.
Richard Cranium yep that where I picked mine up at. 2006-2009 is the one I bought. Be sure it has the separate brain box. As for part number not sure.

Hi bro i did the same way but after a year was dead because of water infiltrates where you cutted in the begining distroied the berring inside the electromotor so there needs to be done avoid water leak in.
Wow way to much work , I just installed a power steering box out of Toyota , ordered kit for mounting and couple junk yard trips and put whole thing in for under $100 bucks . The most expensive thing was the new hose from Hose man what ever works .

Unfortunately I do not. I sold this Sammy a couple years ago.
Does this stop the steering wheel from being jerked out of ur hands when hitting a rock or rut in a mud hole?
Benjamin McMichael it should, but I haven’t put it to the test. It’s def. helped with my Samurai on overall handling. Again I haven’t tried to tear it up just yet :)

Roy CG I did not but someone before me did. I’ve never really looked into it cause it’s always worked. It still has a keyed ignition to shut the sammy off. And key has to be in the acc in position in order to use the push button start
I have Suzuki Jimny 1996 with swapped engine 1.3 with EPS, but EPS doesn't work, have you wiring diagrams or do you know how to fix? Thanks!

I’m dumb. Can you explain what you mean by “take an ignition wire off of the fuse panel”? Did you splice a wire into your existing ignition wire?
Jimmy Allen on my fuse panel there are a couple spades that have no wires to them in the middle of the block. One that I found was 12v positive when the key was turned on. That’s what I wired it to. Not sure if all are the same. If this can’t be found someone could tap into the keyed 12v to the radio or head unit

Did you need a special controller to power up the steering. If not how did you figure out what to wire up?
The whole system is out of a Prius. There’s specific years that allow the unit to go into limp mode and still operate without an onboard ecu. I think I list the years in the video. Either way a Google search should get ya there👍🏻
I just got the same thing for my sami, could you explain to me where the wire to the fuse box goes to the module please.
I found a schematic on the internet for the specific module I bought. I didn’t post one because these modules vary along with the wiring. Which ever one you bought I’d check Google and see what’s out there
the 1.6 is not out of a metro it is out of a GEO/Chevy tracker or Suzuki sidekick / vitara

So, for my samurai, I got a prius steering motor that is for 10-14 prius, and I got a computer that fits a 10-12 prius. So they should be good together. When I hook it all up, power/ground/little black wire. The computer clicks twice instead of once, and the motor never never starts working, even after waiting 10+ seconds. Any ideas? Thanks.
Marcus Riley I know some ecu’s don’t have the “idiot mode” where it basically says I can’t find the main ecu and then it acts correctly. Unfortunately I don’t know what years that started. That would be my guess. Only other thing would to double check your wiring. It varies from a couple different years.
@@dream_killer_racing thanks such much for your thoughts. I'll try to play with the wiring a little more. You're right, there are many wiring diagrams out there, and I think all I found were for 05-09 models, so maybe I need to look more for more diagrams. Or maybe just start touching wires to the battery and see if anything exciting happens 😄

A small wire terminal. Nothing special. Just a small spade that worked with that pin size.

Young Owl 12 gauge auto wire. Nothing special

Why did you have to beat the fender in?
In order to get access to the frame. For some reason my fender was pushed over the frame. Yours may not be that way
