    in my observations the Hellenic period never ended , it just changed names, example, Marcus Antonio and Cleopatra are descended from the Hellenic people, and Agusto Cesar that replaced them too was a Hellenic creation from Alta Grecia in the Italic peninsula, similar to Byzantium that is condition reflex created with the intention of forgetting they are the Romans created by the Hellenics people. they are all the same different names. saludos

I realise however that Hurghada is a very westernized Egyptian city that doesn't really reflect Egypt's culture and religion. So much looking forward to the videos from Siwa!

    At first it seemed strange to hear Rommel Caves, Rommel Bridge etc considering the Allies inflicted the first defeat on the Axis forces (German/Italian) in the Western Desert when they defeated Rommel (the Desert Fox). Montgomery and Rommel basic ebbed and flowed between Tunis and Alexandria along the coastal road. Marsa Mutruh was one location of battle. It seems the caves were used by Rommel as his HQ for El Alamein and battles in the area. War cemetries for the Allies, German and Italian aslo in the area. Perhaps El Alamein has more connection to the Allies and their victory.

    I wonder why the Mediterranean looks so bright blue there, and contrasting with the dark blue in deeper water. Gabe, try the dish 'molohiya' 🤣It's an acquired taste. It's mallow leave stew. I used to hate it as a child but now love it when it's made with chicken instead of lamb. For some reason, Turks of Cyprus traditionally have some Egyptian foods like molohiya, kolokas (taro stew), bumbar or mumbar (home-made sausage), bamia (okra stew), kubez/koubes (kibbeh). Btw, complaining about 'dry' and 'bland' Turkish food is like going to France and complaining about the wine 😂😂

    According to the Holocaust encyclopedia Rommel saw that the war was lost and wanted to confront Hitler about it. What exactly his role was in the assassination attempt on Hitler is not clear but Hitler gave him the option of going to trial or commit suicide. Rommel chose for the latter. As Rommel had many great successes as field Marshal he was given a State funeral and a day of mourning. The public was told that Rommel died from complications of injuries he sustained in France caused by bombing of his car by the British.

      Yes, good catch, I had him mixed together with the first Julius Caesar, who died in 44 BC. So it was Augustus who conquered Egypt and forced Cleopatra to kill herself in 30 BC. I was thinking it was the same Julius Caesar who was the father of her child Caesarion.

    • @MaxPower-11
      @MaxPower-11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@GabrielTravelerVideos Let me try and clear up some of the confusion… Julius Caesar was indeed the father of Cleopatra’s son. JC was killed in 44BC. Cleopatra then hooked up with Mark Anthony starting in 41BC and was associated with Anthony during his initial partnership and eventual falling out with Octavian (aka Caesar Agustus) until Octavian finally defeated Anthony and Cleopatra’s forces in 31BC.
      Although “on paper” ruled by the later members Ptolemaic dynasty, in reality Egypt was already a Roman client state in the decades before Cleopatra’s reign (thanks to infighting between the members of the Ptolemaic family which weakened the Egyptian kingdom during the period of the Roman Republic’s ascension to becoming the prominent power in the Mediterranean). After Cleopatra’s death, Egypt became a full-fledged province of Rome.

      Yes, there's definitely a misconception that the entire area is dangerous. In fact some of the safest countries in the world are in the Middle East, such as Saudi Arabia, Oman and the three little Gulf states. Jordan, Egypt and Turkey are quite safe as well. It's a tragedy what's happening in Gaza and now Lebanon. And of course it was also a tragedy what Hamas did on October 7th. The leaders on both sides are psychopaths.

    13:00 Gabe, I am obliged to correct the historical inaccuracies here.
    There was a roman civil war going on between Caesar (*not an emperor *) and his former triumvirate ally and friens pompey. Egypt is at this time is a client state to the Roman republic.
    Caesar ultimately gets the upper hand, pompey flees to Egypt where he's decapitated by ptolemy's men, hoping to gain favor with the likely winner, Caesar. Ptolemy is cleopatra's brother and husband, and also in a civil war with cleopatra over who's going to reign over Egypt. Caesar is angry at this (having killed Roman elite) and supports cleopatra. But this was mostly because the promiscuous cleopatra seduced the much older Caesar and had a kid with him: "caesarion". Egypt was not an empire at this time and neither was Rome. Caesar eventually gets assassinated in the senate. Caesar's right-hand underling mark anthony, along with the Caesars adopted son Octavian form a new triumvirate. But eventually it leads to another civil war. Mark anthony allies himself with Cleopatra, who is now shacked up with him that Caesar is no longer. But alas, Octavian wins in the end. Mark anthony commits suicide in Egypt and cleopatra tells him she'll join him downstairs. However, she had no intention of doing so. Only after having a sit-down with Octavian who clearly indicates he'll kill caesarion and make her a prisoner (her promiscuous ways do not work on this dude), does she see no.other option and finally keeps her word to anthony and takes her own life. Octavian is named first Roman emperor, Augustus, the son of a god --- because Julius Caesar is raised to the rank of a god.
