@Alexander Kirpichnikov no, they don't as far as I know, the names are just confusimg as hell. I think that maybe he used veeery slightly outdated names, coz they change them for whatever reason. Idk, I am not sure
Some minor details missing in the video: USB version names have became quite chaotic. For example, the USB 3.0 is currently named USB 3.2gen 1, the USB 3.1 is called USB 3.2gen2, and then the USB 3.2 is USB 3.2gen2x2. I wouldn't be surprised if it became even more complicated. USB-C can reach up to 100W of power delivery, and doesn't necessary have to reach its USB 3.1 standard. For example, some motherboards only have "USB 3.0 type C" connector (and header). If your phone supports fast charging and you're looking to buy a new motherboard (and planning to plug your phone into it), try looking for something specific: USB-C 3.2 gen 2 connector (10Gbits/s speed). Why? Because this connector can output up to 15W of power, compared to 5W on slower USB connectors (even the type C, if it only supports 5Gbits/s speed). You can use some USB-C cables/connectors for transfering "display data", as some of them support 'displayport functionality'. USB type A doesn't always have 4 pins. From what I know, faster ports have more pins.
The naming scheme really has become chaos, I really wish they just stuck with the formula instead of changing it up. Even the old naming had quirks, but at least it was somewhat easy to follow/remember.
Totally agree with you. Recently I've been looking some info 'bout USB and find out, that is it very complicated with all those USB names... And now they remaned them, so there is even more chaos around.

Apple has a habit of mucking around with the USB standard. I remember when they keyed the plugs and sockets to make them less universal. As far as I can tell, the Lightning connector is just another attempt to lock users into their own inferior protocol (I won't call Lightning a standard as, by definition, a standard has to be adopted by more than one company).
Thanks for this. Did not know the Mini and Micro were in USB B port types. Do all USB versions offer the same volts/amps for charging? Just wondering since portable solar panel chargers have standard USB 2.0 A ports which can output 5v 3amps over each USB.. Thanks.
@@InfernoPhoenixFX In 2018 the designers for USB in hopes to cut costs and shoe horn in USB 3.2 Gen2X2 as the "easy choice" for licensing profit reasons, decided with the release of USB 3.2 to change the name of USB 3.0 to 3.1 and 3.2, same change was done to USB 3.1, however due to misleading marketing concerns, they added Gen 1 to USB 3.1 Gen 1, and 3.2 Gen 1 to represent USB 3.0, aswell as the Gen 2 moniker to represent USB 3.1. Essentially rendering the changes pointless LOL, But they definitely invented something special.

And then they remove the charger to care for the environment, if they genuinely care for the environment they would ditch lightning for USB-C and make the product more serviceable and repairable for third parties. But no, they disguise their practices to increase their profits behind saving the environment.

I've read about the different sink and source devices and how they have different resistors for different voltages, and things further complicate with A-C connectors. There's not a single video that talk about these details.
Thank you! Such crystal clear explanation of this standard, sometimes i have thought it was designed to drive us crazy when searching around for cables! Lets all just go to USB C and put this to bed finally
Cole has always been a master of emotion, Joyner a master of truth. Amazing to see them together.
TY, a week ago I was on a quest to educate myself on the types of power cables. You have full filled that quest. 😅
The best educational content on youtube!
Really thorough and easy to understand tutorial that makes it easier to purchase related devices. Many product descriptions are unclear including motherboard specs, so this information fills in those holes. Thanks again!
You are such great mentor ever I have seen.
Your videos are very educational. I even write it on a notebook so I can remember your lessons well. Thanks a lot sir!
Here we are, i was waiting for this video! Thank you!
Hope you enjoyed it!
I am very surprised, your explanations are very detailed. I have only been teaching myself to use computers for a few years. I don’t understand many things in computers. There are not many people around me who understand how to use computers. Your uploaded explanations made me understand a lot of things ,Grateful ❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍👍❤ BIG THANKS.
I miss you bro... I just have a look yesterday at your channel videos
Glad to see you here
I appreciate that
i was looking at the comments and someone said your animations are world class... yea there are world class
7:02 Shows apple products when describing modern devices that use USB C
*me: Hol up*
RIGHT
No prob....from now it's type c in apple devices
nah he just predicted the future
I always search for your videos when i want clarifications, you are simply amazing, your animations and explanations are out of this world, keep on doing the good job
4:57 I think most people know this as Micro-USB
But its name is micro-b usb
Многие вообще называют провод для андроид. ("Android plug") 😄
@@dmb0709 Idk what u mean but I can tell u are calling them android plug
Because I called them the same.
@@dhaumy да всë ок. Однажды ты изучишь русский и станешь меня понимать. 😉
Awesome video, short, clear and very helpful 👍
actually, on macs, all usb ports are white even if they’re white.
@@retrojacksgamingtunes2459 yeah it's ridiculous at this point they haven't changed to USB C now. I despise apple.
Truly the best USB explanation video, period. The animations were extremely well done. Bravo and thanks man for great tutorial!
Sony: my naming schemes are really bad.
*USB 3.1 and up: Hold my beer.*
Xiaomi: Amateur
Very, very nice job, couldn't be clearer.
Thanks for this. Did not know the Mini and Micro were in USB B port types. Do all USB versions offer the same volts/amps for charging? Just wondering since portable solar panel chargers have standard USB 2.0 A ports which can output 5v 3amps over each USB.. Thanks.
this was SO clear and informative! The Graphics were professional and easily demonstrated exactly what you were saying. THANK YOU!!!
USB 3.0 => USB 3.1 Gen 1 => USB 3.2 Gen 1
USB 3.1 => USB 3.1 Gen 2 => USB 3.2 Gen 2
USB 3.2 => USB 3.2 Gen2x2
But why?! Why it has to be so convoluted?
"Desktops and Laptops will have several USB ports" *me crying while looking at my laptop with one USB-C port* T-T
a toughbook i've been meaning to make a WinXP box out of, all it has is one USB 1.1 port. that honestly surprised me.
my laptop has 1 USB A port and a USB C port.
That's why they invented USB hubs.
ye the windows 11 laptop that i bought in 2022 has 2 usb a ports and 1 usb c port. fortunately i have multiple usb hubs
Great video. Too bad the PC community can't keep themselves from adding "some minor things, a few things, some details" in the comments section. It's just like car people trying to test you on specifics when you get the general idea. Stop complicating things.. that's precisely why this video narrows it down so much and speaks so slowly..
The king is back!
PowerCert has done so much to help me get up to speed on what I need to know about computing today.
40 Gbits/s in the future will look like 2Kbits/s in the present.
Type C with 40 Gbits/s sadly it's not ready, we saw tons of them made in China, the form exists , but not the protocol.
@@arrowghost can you elaborate?
very familiar with the usb tech, but this video was still really great to watch and i learned a few things i didnt even know in the past! great video :)
"Mini B is being phased out", pretty sure it's already been phased out, it's Micro B that's being phased out in favour of Type C.
Mini B persisted a surprisingly long time in external optical drives. Ergonomically, it's the best connector before Type C--you can actually see which way up to insert it, if you look closely.
9:10 Casually combusts like it's nobody's business lol
6:48 This animation realizes me that this video was made with Powerpoint.
The best IT channel and it's very detailed on computer devices. Excellent work.
6:16 so that's called micro B 3.0, my extern hard disk have this
Same here. Thought before this video that that was some proprietary connector :D
I am very impressed by your video and an excellent explanation and very easy to follow. No confusion, no misleading info, and extremely well explained. Please keep up and show other technologies when time permits

"And desktops and laptops have several USB ports"
Apple: No
Technically, 2 type c ports and no type a is "several USB ports"
@@jmiquelmb
First off, did I ask? And still, you're wrong. Several means more than 2. You stated 2 ports, so you're wrong. Go away now.
@@displayerror7292 Wow, that was an unnecessary hostile answer. I was just joking and english is not my native language
who do you think you are, first off? Other people should ask for yours, meaningless person, allowance to reply for your comment? If someone should go away, it is only you.
@@Litwinel Woah, calm down mate. I was being more joking than anything. I took a look at their name so I thought they would be a very casual person, unlike you.
the most detailed and best explained video of the universal serial bus i have ever seen!
0:30 mice hahhaha it's mouse bruh😂
Mice is plural of mouse
I was a computer tech way back in ancient times and when I got my training the instructor was kind of excited because they were finally creating a system that would allow any computer to connect to any peripheral. It was going to be called a Universal Serial Bus, or USB... LOL
modern smartphones and thats an iphone. yeaaaaa. we still dream at this day that Apple puts type c in Iphones
facts
Won’t happen
they did put usb-c, but on the wrong end of the cable
And then they remove the charger to care for the environment, if they genuinely care for the environment they would ditch lightning for USB-C and make the product more serviceable and repairable for third parties. But no, they disguise their practices to increase their profits behind saving the environment.
@@Universal_Craftsman That camera situation was so petty. You are free to have profits but do it ethically...😑
you made an excellent video . animated pictures are better because if you where filming real connectors you would have to be holding the camera very close , to be able to show them as well as you did with the animations . and you speak slowly and clearly . i'm glad i decided to watch this video , now i know a lot more than before
surprised it took engineers 24 years to make a connector that has one single orientation, and the same ends on both sides. Type C is almost the perfect cable.
almost? what downsides does it have
@@avonire none that I can think of from a standard user really. Maybe they could be faster in the future. other than that, its 99% perfect.
@@avonire The downside is that companies won't 🤬ing use it and instead keep giving us the Type A and micro Type B garbage. I've started boycotting any product that features a rechargeable battery if it uses micro B instead of type C.
The evolution had to do with the internal circuitry in the devices.
@@avonire it could still snap physically if pushed on from the wrong angle. For laptops that sit on actual laps or on tables where objects could fall on the cable while it is plugged in.
A mag-version of this would be nearly perfect
Thank you SO much! It has taken me ages to identify the micro lead I have. I need to purchase a new lead, but was going crazy trying to identify it. You are a star!
Did you know??

You know, it was surprisingly difficult to find out the name to Micro B 3.0 in articles.
I usually find it on eHDDs but the specs seem to just say micro b eventhough it's a different shape.
So thanks for that.
So clear, concise, and best of all, memorable. Better than any book.
Best explanation I have seen to date!! I saved this site on my computer for a quality reference source for USB information!! WEll Done!! Thank you for all your work and research!!
