    My recommendation for HDMI cable (affiliate): amzn.to/3ks3SHe
    DisplayPort cable (affiliate): amzn.to/2H1jP9O

    • @REXXSEVEN
      @REXXSEVEN 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It would make sense if the DisplayPort cable configuration is used in those restaurants and fast food chains where they have the menus displayed on multiple LCD screens that are alongside each other. Sometimes you see 4 and 5 screens in a row next to each other. So it would make sense to use DisplayPort for the cable setup rather than individual video cables. Seems like that setup would use a lot less wiring and a lot less internal Hardware on the video source equipment.

    With VGA they were happy to have a common standard. Before that there were 9 pin, 23 pin and different assignments.
    DVI-A can easily be connected to VGA.
    DVI-D can easily be connected to HDMI.
    DVI Duallink is obsolete.
    Like DVI, HDMI only uses one link, but is faster, so higher resolutions can be displayed. This is why there is no HDMI dual link connector, even if this was planned, but canceled.
    Dispalyport can often simply be connected to HDMI to connect a monitor.
    Most devices automatically switch between DVI-D, HDMI and Displayport.
    Displayport can also transmit data like Firewire or USB.

      Which is part of the conspiracy and confusion. Unless they all match on all your equipment your best speed (picture resolution/frequency) will only be as fast as the component with the slower generation. In other words, your new HDMI 2.1 device will only display HDMI 1.4 quality.

    • @ryans413
      @ryans413 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      HDMI only has to versions 1.4 or 2.1 there where many cables in the beginning that offers different speeds like 2gb 3gb 6gb. Different bandwidths but all the cables were still 1.4 compatible with all other devices. Like the guy said HDMI 1.4 can do up to 4K at 30hz. It’s confusing but all HDMI cables now can do 4K 30hz they are all made the same and of you buy a cable that’s 2.1 then you can do 4K 60hz

    I work in school tech support and regularly have to deal with video connections. Its a bit annoying as we haven't standardized our connections. We have a mix of VGA, HDMI and DisplayPort and in some rare cases, DVI. Our main technology are: VGA-only projectors, HDMI/VGA projectors, and SMART/SHARP displays that support HDMI. It is fun walking into a classroom not knowing exactly how the computer station is connected to the display/projector. We usually have video adapters to convert between different connections, but it still a pain dealing with all that stuff.

  • @arnislacis9064
    @arnislacis9064 ปีที่แล้ว

    I still use VGA on my computer, even HDMI and DisplayPort outputs are available on my MSI GeForce GTX 960 4GB. I have two old Dell 1707FPVt running using VGA cables, and 1st monitor is connected using DVI-I to VGA Adapter and 2nd is connected using DisplayPort to VGA Adapter. For those old monitors using DVI vs VGA, there is no visible difference. Using HDMI and/or DisplayPort for monitors makes sense if using gaming monitor (1080p 144 or 240Hz) or 1440p and 2160p monitor.
    Anything other than 1080p 60Hz or lower, VGA and DVI-D single link is enough for most uses.
    Anyway, thanks for well made animated video.

      @@PowerCertAnimatedVideos I'm a bit confused. So you've never practiced explaining concepts to people before you started doing these TH-cam videos? Most people can't explain things this clearly without years of practice, and even more people never ever learn to do so, despite how much experience they gain.

    What about response times? Does thunderbolt 3 or hdmi or display port give less latency?

      current day, no type of display port adds more than 1-2ms of latency. though buying a cheap chinese TV will.

    I remember reading somewhere that the HDMI has the capability of Audio Return Channel (ARC) as compared to Display Port, whereas the latter has the capability of supporting multiple displays in daisychain connection but not the former. Is this still true for the latest version of both standards?

    • @AdmiralBison
      @AdmiralBison 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      good points, I've never seen HDMI being daisy chained before.
      I think it kind of becomes moot when USB-C thunderbolt and USB-C 4.0 can daisy chain, and way more capable than either HDMI or Display port alone.

      What do you mean?
      It's already the standard on all modern Macbooks.
      Also USB 4.0 on USB-C looks to have the same capabilities.
      "Never" is not a good word when we know that technology advances.

    The standard DisplayPort monitors only have one port, which is an input port designed to connect the one monitor to the computer. To utilize the multi-monitor capability, one either needs to purchase a separate DisplayPort hub to connect the various monitors to the computer via the hub, or buy the more expensive DisplayPort monitors that have the two ports, which will allow Daisy-chaining...and in this case, the last monitor in the chain would only need the one port.
