+GET KEBAB, WEAR KEBAB, CRY! It's a great game. When I bring out the ol' console, I usually play trough CH to warm up, since the difficulty is challenging enough but still pretty forgiving by 8-bit standards.
I must have some Brazilian ancestry because I loved the SMS and the games that were made for it. Our Power Base unit got stolen so a friend gave us his Master System 2...and years later another friend gave us his Sega Genesis PBC (power base converter)...good times, my friend....good times.
All the way from the Netherlands here. Love the reviews. Most of the games i don't even know because I wasn't born yet xD But I still watch the reviews because they're awsome.
Yeah, the Master System was very popular here in Brazil. I had a Master System and a NES, and I just liked the SMS more. My favorite console will always be the Mega Drive though. Just love that system.
My grandparents had a master system. This was the very first video game I remember playing. I spent years trying to remember the name and when I saw this video I recognized it right away. Thank you for reviewing it so I could remember the name. No I am going out to buy a master system and this game.
Another game I have to pick up. It also featured an amazing FM soundtrack. So sad many in the US were not able to take advantage of the FM sound capabilities of the system. If you have a Sega Genesis and want to play Master System games with FM sound, I HIGHLY recommend the PowerBase miniFM by Stone Age Gamer.
You could do like me, and mod a Sega Genesis Mini. I added a couple pages for 32X and Master System games, works like a charm. Then I use my USB for Sega CD games
BTW, I just love uour show, have been a subscriber for quite some time, and you make me laugh and giggle most of the time, while surprisingly still delivering a decent review. Gotta love you silly jokes and the unique style that your show is made of. I constantly show your vids to guys I know, so your fans here in my spot in Brazil are constantly growing in number. Keep up the good, entertaining work!
Wow, this was probably the first video game I ever played growing up. Thank you for reviewing this and the awesome Thunder Blade, Mark!! =) Ghostbusters on Master System was pretty good too, but hard as hell getting past the bouncy Stay Puft in front of the Zuul building.
I just bought this game, thinking it was for the SEGA Genesis. Because I thought that all Master System games had a white cover. Now I know they don't. I was shocked when I opened the case and found a Master System cartridge.
@suematsu01 You might also take a look at Zillion for the Master System. I have to admit I don't care for Zillion myself, but at least the music is awesome. :b

01:20 This hands down the best video game synopsis I've ever heard
This is one of my favorite games. Some of the music was really good. I was a lot better at games when i was younger...I can't get passed the 3rd room now.
I'm from Brazil and Master System was my second video game system. First one was "Telejogo" that was kind of brazilian console with some Pong variations (basketball, hockey, football) and one nice shooting game.
@legendofzeldas I'm confused--I meant the pause button, not the start button. The Master System controller has a 1 button and a 2 button, and the console itself has a pause button and a reset button. (Changing weaponry in Wonderboy 3 is always a drag since you have to reach over to the console to press the pause button. :b)
@glitchz1 I just saw that blue box you mentioned, but you should be able to watch the video on you TH-cam app for the iPod. That's where I watch all the vids.
It looks really good! Gonna look for it on ebay..........but I really wanted to find zillion2....that one was awesome. I regreat returning it to my friend in the past. Now he probably doesn´t have it anymore.......crap.....
I still love playing old games, the only ones I can't play are like this where you have to basically pause to switch weapons I just hate how that stuff really slows down the action.
Yeah i'm from Brazil too, SMS really was a very popular console here back then because we had a toy company here in Brazil that had sega's rights to manufacture it. Same thing with Genesis...
LOL, when I play maple and have my music in the background, if some funky techno comes on, I always get questions from my party if I'm alright because my character is jumping all over the place, dancing, if you will.
Actually the only country in south america where the master system was popular was Brazil, the rest of the countries barely seen that console, I still haven't found not even one on sale in Colombia. It's good to know that I'm not the only one that makes the characters dance on the rythm of funky beats XD.
Another market where the Sega guys had Nintendo cornered was Australia. Back when the Sega Master System was their flagship console the marketing here in Australia was really strong by Sega and Nintendo didn't seem to do much about it.
I am from Brasil and the master system was a very popular videogame because of Tectoy. Classic Game Room + Master System = too cool for school Please Review the Alex Kid in Shinobi World.
I remember here in brazil there was a TV Show only for the Sega Master System was called Master Dicas ( Master Tips) A TV SHOW ONLY FOR THE SEGA MASTER SYSTEM???? Hu? AWESOME !!!
How I've heard it told is that basically Nintendo let Mattel handle the European release of the NES, and they bungled the hell out of it, and likewise, Sega let Tonka handle the North American Master System release, and they shat the bed on that one as well.
SNES, Sega Genesis, Sega Megadrive and Sega Master System were very popular in the late 80's and early 90's here in Brazil. Then we were swarmed by Nintendo 64 and Playstation which made old Nintendo, Atari and Sega consoles practically extinct. You have to do serious digging to find any over here.
In Brasil the Master System didn´t really have to compete with the NES. The real NES was not really expensive and "Gradiente" released a NES clone called Phantom System that basically sucked balls. My friend had one and it used NES cartridges but the console was flat so you couldn't play without matches keep the cart from failing. So yeah, most of us had MS and I still have my first one. Now that I could afort it I bought a NES to. And I´m really happy with the 8 bit part of my collection.
But here, in Brazil, before Nintendo would have some representatives here, there was Tectoy spreading the SEGA love all over the place. Nintendo woke up about this somewhere between the demise of the SNES, and the "ascension" of the N64.
In a weird way this kinda reminds me of Shadow Complex, which reminds me, Please review SHADOW COMPLEX!!! Mark i mean come on you should have reviewed SHADOW COMPLEX already! Just do it man. Just do it.
No, your are not alone when making your character dance to the music.
Had this as a kid, and still own that very same copy to this day.
+GET KEBAB, WEAR KEBAB, CRY! It's a great game. When I bring out the ol' console, I usually play trough CH to warm up, since the difficulty is challenging enough but still pretty forgiving by 8-bit standards.
I love these retro reviews the best. Especially from the less mainstream systems. Thanks for posting.
Bit of trivia this game was based on the anime Sonic Soldier Borgman
I must have some Brazilian ancestry because I loved the SMS and the games that were made for it. Our Power Base unit got stolen so a friend gave us his Master System 2...and years later another friend gave us his Sega Genesis PBC (power base converter)...good times, my friend....good times.
Sega (most prominently Mega Drive) did pretty well in Europe where I'm from, compared to NES and SNES
I played it back then when a friend loaned it to me and loved it. Will buy it for sure!
I officially want the Sega Master System for this game! =D
3 decades to find out I was supposed to use a 2nd pad
That’s why it’s always good to read the manual 🤣🤣🤣
I was thinking it took too long to get funky. I only have 1 controller so all I can do is get down
please cgr do not ever change your intro! it's the best thing ever!! :D
My grandparents had a master system. This was the very first video game I remember playing. I spent years trying to remember the name and when I saw this video I recognized it right away. Thank you for reviewing it so I could remember the name. No I am going out to buy a master system and this game.
i make my character dance when the beat gets funky too!!!
2:28 hell yeah! there are tons of platformers that are great for that!
The box for the version I had had the typical master system graph on white paper cover. Maybe because it was in Canada?
6:04 I like how the laser gun lights up the dark hallway.
Woo! Brazilian fan here! Had this system back in the day, awesome stuff!!!
I used to have all the silverhawk action figures when I was a kid, great show.
I had that game when I was around 11 and I'm in my 40's LOL
I bought this because our local Toy R Us was running out of new games for SMS. Liked it and played it over and over.
thanks for noticing us :D
I wish you could download this game on the DS or PS store. Let us mid 30s men relieve our youth!!!!
You could do like me, and mod a Sega Genesis Mini. I added a couple pages for 32X and Master System games, works like a charm. Then I use my USB for Sega CD games
Wow, a SMS game with AWESOME cover art? Unbelievable!
You will never be alone in making your character dance. The funky music is a command for your character to put down all things and boogie down.
Silverhawks is Thundercats in space.
This game blew me away when I was a kid.
When I first saw the box for this, I thought it was a Sega Genesis. It was so odd seeing Sega Master games with black boxes like the Genesis.
Never found this in the stores but wanted to buy it after seeing it in an issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly.
@suematsu01 You might also take a look at Zillion for the Master System. I have to admit I don't care for Zillion myself, but at least the music is awesome. :b
01:20 This hands down the best video game synopsis I've ever heard
Review Aztec Adventure, possibly my favourite Master System game
You are not alone with making game character dance. I used to do it alot with Mega man! (Crash Man stage music had an awesome beat)
This is one of my favorite games. Some of the music was really good. I was a lot better at games when i was younger...I can't get passed the 3rd room now.
Man this is one of the very first video game i ever owned. Wow!
when I first bought this game is hated it, but after I played it is became really addicted to it, loved it, so much fun
I'm from Brazil and Master System was my second video game system. First one was "Telejogo" that was kind of brazilian console with some Pong variations (basketball, hockey, football) and one nice shooting game.
awesome review mark!!! the brazilians CGRHD fans are grateful for the attention on Sega (AWESOME) Master (INCREDIBLE) System!
@glitchz1 did you try to restore your iPod to factory settings over a computer. That helps for some things.
Hello FROM ITALY KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK MATE. LOVE YOUR REVIEWS :::: WATCH ALL OF THEM JUST FOR THE HECK OF IT
You aren't the only dancer Mark. I usually dance when I'm playing Sonic and Shinobi games.
I agree. Damn good music.
Watched my old man play the heck outta this. Good times
@SuperGolemio sorry but the master system controller does not have a "START" button BUTTON 1 IS the start button
I loved this game in my teenage years. In my opinion, this was one of the better SMS titles available way back when.
time for a gunstar heroes review, and while you have that master system out throw in a fantasy zone review too. the master system was awesome.
@glitchz1 I just saw that blue box you mentioned, but you should be able to watch the video on you TH-cam app for the iPod. That's where I watch all the vids.
I remember playing this game around 1990 in Paris, France at my cousin's Sega MS and it was a great fun...I think I'm going to look for it on ebay
Surprisingly, this is a very fond memory of Paris, France for many folk. It even ranks above Notre-Dame.
Huh. Why not use the pause button to change weapons, like in Wonderboy 3?
Very reminiscent of the SMS game Zillion.
It looks really good! Gonna look for it on ebay..........but I really wanted to find zillion2....that one was awesome. I regreat returning it to my friend in the past. Now he probably doesn´t have it anymore.......crap.....
Believe or not, the Master System is still being sold here in Brazil.
that game looks worth it for the music alone.
Does anyone have any idea about the title of the sax piece that plays when adenha appears?
I still love playing old games, the only ones I can't play are like this where you have to basically pause to switch weapons I just hate how that stuff really slows down the action.
@roningarrison so under that premise u dont play any old school megaman??
Yeah i'm from Brazil too, SMS really was a very popular console here back then because we had a toy company here in Brazil that had sega's rights to manufacture it. Same thing with Genesis...
LOL, when I play maple and have my music in the background, if some funky techno comes on, I always get questions from my party if I'm alright because my character is jumping all over the place, dancing, if you will.
2013 preorder date get ready for it
@edwest82 There should be a TV channel dedicated to the Sega Master system :D
Actually the only country in south america where the master system was popular was Brazil, the rest of the countries barely seen that console, I still haven't found not even one on sale in Colombia.
It's good to know that I'm not the only one that makes the characters dance on the rythm of funky beats XD.
it was popular on Brazil only...all the sega systems were populars on Brazil...Greetings From Chile!!!!
Another market where the Sega guys had Nintendo cornered was Australia. Back when the Sega Master System was their flagship console the marketing here in Australia was really strong by Sega and Nintendo didn't seem to do much about it.
Master system was extremely HUGE in brazil =D
The brazilian manufacturer still produce games and sms consoles but sadly got stuck in time =/
I hope they bring a sega master system collection to PSP or NDS
Have it and and wanted to go into blind. Now I know. But I had to keep watching. Could not move eyes away.
Best reviews in youtube
Hahaha no bro... i do it too. Mario, Sonic dance aswell. When i have a controler in my hands. back then and i still do 🤣😊👍
I am from Brasil and the master system was a very popular videogame because of Tectoy.
Classic Game Room + Master System = too cool for school
Please Review the Alex Kid in Shinobi World.
yea me to i make my charictars dance to!! :3 also i misspelled charicters 2 times
here in argentina SEGA master system was the glory!
This game reminds me of a combintation between the old metriod prime and the old megaman.
Has been released in Germany too
I remember here in brazil there was a TV Show only for the Sega Master System was called Master Dicas ( Master Tips) A TV SHOW ONLY FOR THE SEGA MASTER SYSTEM???? Hu? AWESOME !!!
In the Netherlands, the Master System wasn't nearly as popular as the NES, but it's not all that hard to find one, really.
The design reminds me of Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid (1) a lot.
How I've heard it told is that basically Nintendo let Mattel handle the European release of the NES, and they bungled the hell out of it, and likewise, Sega let Tonka handle the North American Master System release, and they shat the bed on that one as well.
Oh my goodness, I need the sexy jazz music as an mp3.
Someone's gotta be able to help me out.
Samus vs. Boba Fett vs. Paladin = Best fucking bounty hunter fight ever
@Zero2891 - yep in iran too. When i was a kid, it was all about SEGA. Nobody had even heard of Nintento
I'm suprised Activision didn't ram this game into the dirt with sequels out the fucking ass.
@SuperGolemio oops my bad i forgot that the system itself had a pause button
nevermind you are right
~legendofzeldas~
everyone makes their character dance to the music
gotta b a reference to have gun wil travel. his name is paliden and hes a gun for hire
Do Zero Wing next. "All your base are belong to us."
I was born in 91 and clicked on this vid because I thought the cover looked like silver hawks lol
It's got a guy in metal body armor shooting a robot in the chest.
But here, in Brazil, before Nintendo would have some representatives here, there was Tectoy spreading the SEGA love all over the place. Nintendo woke up about this somewhere between the demise of the SNES, and the "ascension" of the N64.
Don't worry, you are not alone.
I also make my characters dance... then my friend get mad
with me because I'm just "Waste Time".
In a weird way this kinda reminds me of Shadow Complex, which reminds me, Please review SHADOW COMPLEX!!! Mark i mean come on you should have reviewed SHADOW COMPLEX already! Just do it man. Just do it.
just bought this game for €10 cib. Looks like a good buy.
@aanimeaddicttgabe something happened recently that i cant use safari anymore for youtube or gametrailers
