The pistol that appears actually has no ammo count, but works on a timer, like the invincibility star found in stage 3 (the only one in the game). You can shoot it as much as you like, but when it's timer runs out, then it's gone.
Very good review, Konami put out some awesome games on the NES back in the day. You totally ought to review Jackal for the NES, was one of my favorite Konami titles on the NES, and still is to this day. :)
Not quite, I live in Norway, which is in the PAL area, and the game was called Green Beret here too. More or less the only things I remember from the game is the opening alarm and the tappeti-tap snare drum "music". Don't think I ever got very far, damn hard game.
Haha! The music is gold! The gameplay and plot is... Well. The gameplay, it makes you think before you jump or do something. The plot, is awesome! You are droped into enemy land militarycamp with only a knife.
@harm991 The fast pace is excellent, games as Snake rattle and Roll and Super Mario Bros 2 you needed the whole day off just to get as far as possible on 1 game over.
Oh my god.... I have been playing this game for YEARS and only listening to this review did I realize that Rush N Attack was a play on words meaning Russian Attack. I honestly thought that you were rushing and attacking.... Mind = Blown
"rush n' attack is like the precursor to the modern stealth game" haha that one was funny, I still can't get how running towards waves of enemies can be stealth XD. I used to like this game, but the problem was that I have a brother... he wanted to play too.
music is classic and while not being a perfect game or as complex as later NES titles (such as Super Mario 3) it's a favorite of mine. Just straight ahead fun!
this looks amazingly similar to rambo for NES as well. I think they must have modelled Rambo after this game. that is unless there was yet another game like this out there somewhere that was the queen mother of all other games like it. I know that zelda II adventures of link also bore a similarity to rambo nes as well.
I like the review of this game, but everyone should really watch Pat the NES punk's review of this, it just makes it totally awesome :-). Plus the remixes of the Commodore 64 version's title song Green Beret just kick so much ass!!
@ps3specter You'll note that the gentleman on the box is also sporting an American flag patch. That's no Russian soldier OR deposed Iraqi despot -- that's a US Army NCO under that pornstache.
@wiih8ps3 Yeah I can't stand that either. If a commercial starts up when you click a link hit back on your browser and click the link again. That way it will skip it.
i dont even think i wouldve liked this too much in 87... the worst thing i hate is those games on the nes where the character was extremely hard to maneuver or just didnt fit the scheme or the flow of the game. Which a lot of those earlier shoot em ups were.. Contra was great for so many different reasons
reminds me of kung fu. you memorize the levels and take out enemies with one hit. Also, both games include running away from tons of enemies then turning and attacking at the last second.
@ufomies Yeah! Because the 2nd guard saw you playing with barbies xD "Hi Ken, want some dinner?" "Hey, what the fuck do you think you're doing?!" *BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM*
Batman: One: "What has yellow skin and writes?" Robin: A ballpoint banana. Batman: Exactly! Two: "What people are always in a hurry?" Robin: Rushing people? Russians! Batman: Right again! Now, what would you say they mean? Robin: Banana... Russian... I've got it! Someone Russian is gonna slip on a banana peel and break their neck! Batman: Precisely, Robin! The only possible meaning!
Every game is a "memorization game" because every game is limited in it's programming. Battletoads was a "memory game" but it's more fun to play after mastering it. It's the same with all media really. Sheesh.
"besides the russians aren't the bad guys.. [I expected him to say the media and etc] then you bust out with a decepticon "how about another title called fuck this mission" I couldn't agree more haha
I played this game for the first time last year at a gaming convention, where they had a challenge booth to win prizes. One of the big challenges was to get through Level 3 (I think) in this game without stabbing & dying. It does make me think of Contra & Metal Gear, & plenty of other games. I think it hilarious that getting the gun is an embarrassing excuse for an "invincibility moment". It still looks fun, though. Stabby stabby!
Damn! How you can be so negatieve... In this time and age that it was realised... this has solid and fast jumping, attacking and dodging with several power ups. Not to mention the incredible awesome music (it gets even better in the last stage). Memorization fest? Maybe a bit, but should have skill either way! otherwise you're just gonna die over and over at the level you died just now in that video. Overall Good Gameplay Awesome Music Simultanuous Multiplayer Beatable within an hour
The best thing about that game? THE MUSIC!
The pistol that appears actually has no ammo count, but works on a timer, like the invincibility star found in stage 3 (the only one in the game). You can shoot it as much as you like, but when it's timer runs out, then it's gone.

Why was this exact same game called Green Beret on the C64? It even has the opening alarm sound and enemies and level structure.
Not quite, I live in Norway, which is in the PAL area, and the game was called Green Beret here too. More or less the only things I remember from the game is the opening alarm and the tappeti-tap snare drum "music". Don't think I ever got very far, damn hard game.
1:20 i always ask to myself why the missiles are pointing to the mountaisn?
what is the music what start's always when the classic game room text appears on red screen in the beggining
Haha! The music is gold! The gameplay and plot is... Well. The gameplay, it makes you think before you jump or do something. The plot, is awesome! You are droped into enemy land militarycamp with only a knife.
think it was named Green Beret in Europ. as in my eys it 90% alike down to sound effects and music
I hated this game when it was in the arcade, but now I have a Rush 'n Attack arcade game in my living room. Love it.
@jensbuhler why not?
@harm991 The fast pace is excellent, games as Snake rattle and Roll and Super Mario Bros 2 you needed the whole day off just to get as far as possible on 1 game over.
is it just me or sadam and stalin are like brothers :)
Is the alternative name for this game Green Beret? Cos it sure as hell looks like it!
so are you playing multiplayer with a friend? or is one of the guys a CPU?
@ufomies for some reason that just gave me a random idea.
"Barbienator 3: Rise of the dolls" instead of "Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines"
Who was player 2?
This game actually has some pretty cool music... gameplay looks fun too. I might have to give this a try.
Oh my god.... I have been playing this game for YEARS and only listening to this review did I realize that Rush N Attack was a play on words meaning Russian Attack. I honestly thought that you were rushing and attacking.... Mind = Blown
@DrSandmann
Very mature to use the words like "retarded" and "idiot" when trying to critisize someone for HAVING AN OPINION!
This review was posted in my birthday!
"rush n' attack is like the precursor to the modern stealth game" haha that one was funny, I still can't get how running towards waves of enemies can be stealth XD. I used to like this game, but the problem was that I have a brother... he wanted to play too.

I've come across this game multiple times at the swap meet.

Music is AWESOME !
This was one of my favorite games as a kid. I felt a lot more pro stabbing people than I did shooting people in Contra, Metroid, etc.
This was the beginning of the tactical Knife:P
yeah im gonna buy this, thanks for the review :)
Mark you are the fine wine of TH-cam video game reviewers!
this is what inspired the perks in modern warfare 2
A.K.A. Green Beret
I remember some of the guys looking like the face plate Cobra Commander, because of the helmets they wore and no details on their faces.
I've hated this game for 20 years. Thank you for finally providing me with 5 minutes of enjoyment from it.
NICE MOVES at 3:22
@ctcraam rush & attack / rush and attack? maybe? I dont know, just sayning =P
This is almost a direct copy of the game Green beret on c64 released 1986, made by the same company.
@Sonic619
yes Fat Tony from Simpsons. I love that saying good one.
You're sure in an uploady mood.
@ps3specter You'll note that the gentleman on the box is also sporting an American flag patch. That's no Russian soldier OR deposed Iraqi despot -- that's a US Army NCO under that pornstache.
the remake of this game is already out its named "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" dunno if many people have heard of it or not..
FuckThisMission
FuckThisMission 2: I'm going home.
FuckThisMission 3: Movie night.
FuckThisMission 4: Pizza delivery.
FuckThisMission 5: Nuclear Holocaust
@zippolight2002 Oh heck no, this was during the Cold War! In Japan, it's called "Green Beret".
@wiih8ps3 Yeah I can't stand that either. If a commercial starts up when you click a link hit back on your browser and click the link again. That way it will skip it.
This is what I hope the new Pokemon will be like. I will buy it if so.
no way!!!!! spent way too much in the arcade on this, I got really far but never to the end.
this game does have memorable sound effects though.
Great review. I remember playing that game and Contra at my friend's house when they came out. Both games are awesome.

Classic Game Room - F*CK THIS MISSION: I'M GOING HOME for NES review
I find this pretty funny that I'm russian and I played this game my whole childhood.
Ah yes, the man with the machine gun fast knife!
another great review
green beret clone?
this reminds me of Kung Fu. you wait until the get close, and it's AAAA or BBBB. only it's like contra in that you die with only one hit
@ufomies Yeah! Because the 2nd guard saw you playing with barbies xD
"Hi Ken, want some dinner?"
"Hey, what the fuck do you think you're doing?!"
*BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM*
@ufomies Then the guy you play as got sad, cuz his entire barbie doll collection blew up with the holocaust =P
(It makes me glad that you enjoyed it)
Great review, great game.
@harm991 It is obviously meant to be a joke. At the time, the game was good. It's just funny to point out the flaws today.
Batman: One: "What has yellow skin and writes?"
Robin: A ballpoint banana.
Batman: Exactly! Two: "What people are always in a hurry?"
Robin: Rushing people? Russians!
Batman: Right again! Now, what would you say they mean?

Batman: Precisely, Robin! The only possible meaning!
my childhood memory
@cirogalli Yeah, looks like it alright.
Oh yeah, I had this game.
This reminds me of Ellis Lanksder, because he was like UMM
@ctcraam That was the point.
i wanna play it! D:
This is a classic !!!
Is that Saddam Hussein on the thumbnail?!
Looks more like Stalin to me, and he'd fit the theme of this game too. :)
sick songs
This is not a bad game, there are worse games. the music is good and it's fun.
Your mission: Destroy the enemy's secret weapon. Here's a knife.
🤣😂
your mission: Destroy Metal gear i mean the enemy's secret weapon!
🤣😂
keep the reviews and videos coming good sir...
haha. "The bad guys are decepticons."
Precursor to the modern stealth game lol
Okay, guys, just remember the bad guys are "Decepticons"
@atreides73 In Soviet Russia, there's more to you than meets Transformer's eye!
Every game is a "memorization game" because every game is limited in it's programming. Battletoads was a "memory game" but it's more fun to play after mastering it. It's the same with all media really. Sheesh.
@Denny of Den Kat Games There are some games like Datamost Aztec and Castle Wolfenstein on C64 that had randomized supplies, dungeons and rooms.
"besides the russians aren't the bad guys.. [I expected him to say the media and etc] then you bust out with a decepticon
"how about another title called fuck this mission"
I couldn't agree more haha

He he I remember this game ^^
I got this game for the title.
the gba version was fun
Green Beret !
My God was this game awesome.
Best game on the nes.
the game should be called "RUSSIAN ATTACK" not "RUSH N ATTACK"
Remember, No Rush NNN
This game had great music, but I always hated it...
Damn! How you can be so negatieve...

Overall
Good Gameplay
Awesome Music
Simultanuous Multiplayer
Beatable within an hour
@yokohamaguy75 And I got the same game for Live Arcade.
Its Rush and Attack Rush N' Attack Rush And Die whatever you want to call it
this game shuld have opend wiht the Red Dawn theme
the music sounds like a pezia shop
You pretty much have to go little by little rehearsing how the bad guys come at you.
mgs3?
How about SHANK'N ATTACK in the DA HOOD. LOL
A game about an American hero that takes down the entire Russian army with a knife. Certainly not an individual to be trifled with.
