  • What is the attraction with Dumaguete in Negros? Why do so many expats/ foreigners live/retire to Dumaguete?
You must also visit the Silliman University Campus. A prestigious University in downtown Dumaguete, Negros, Philippines. Appears to be a wonderful environment in which to study. I was a University Photographer in west London photographing students, staff and dignitaries for publicity purposes for ten years.
The Philippines should be on everyone’s bucket list with its beautiful white sand beaches, fabulous idyllic islands, turquoise sea and stunning scenery. The Philippines is a traveller’s paradise and regularly included in top ten favorite places to visit in Asia and affordable, favorite world holiday destination.
Many foreigners/expats choose the Philippines as the best country to retire in Asia and live in paradise. The Philippines is one of the cheapest countries to live in the world with its low cost of living and all year sunshine. Retiring in the Philippines is affordable on a budget of less than $1000 per month.
Filipinos are welcome and warm people. Filipinos are often regarded as the most friendliest nation in Asia and nicest people in the world. English is widely spoken throughout the country. The Philippines is included in the top ten English speaking countries in the world. The majority of Filipinos are highly proficient in English, so it is very easy to strike up a conversation and make new friends.

I lived in Dumaguete for a while in 2016-2017... It was so boring that I was frequently catching the ferry to Cebu, so I ended up moving there. I look at Dumaguete as an old folks home.

Uhm, because the place & area where you lived there and the carenderia where you ate from are the not so nice areas in town. I lived there for about 5 years, when my husband had a school related job. We lived in a beautiful house and ate in the nice restaurants there. We really loved it! You could still get a lifestyle there comparable to the West. Not exactly cheap by local standards, but cheaper than the comparable standards that you would have in the west (ex. living in a beautiful modern house complete with pool and modern amenities). So you can’t really judge a place based on just one area that you lived in for a very short period. After all, I wouldn’t judge what the rest of London is based on Barking & Dagenham. 😮

We were in Dumaguete January 2020 and enjoyed the trip, it feels laidback, the boardwalk is cool and lots of restaurants.

Interesting video, great work, loved your walk through the market, food stalls and cafes. The seafront looks quite good, the traffic in town looks a nightmare, even on the seafront.

The alarm or siren at 10pm is for minors , it's curfew time for them. They are not allowed to loiter around the city at 10.

Most of the reasons expats give for living in Dumagete apply to many other Ph cities. Busy transit hub is one that makes sense. Could you do a video about which Ph airports tend to have the most affordable flights to the UK, states and Aus? Seems like economies of scale would favor Manilla but maybe others are cheap too.
