If I wait until 60 I get £15,000. I take it four years early I get £13,000. Allowing for the way the tax system works the break even is 81-82, which I'm a lot more likely to beat if I'm not stressed out of my mind by idiots.

Another really great vlog Paul. I’ll add that as a fully disabled expat you can take Paul’s reasons and expand them exponentially for us disabled folks. In America being retired on disability is a death sentence. Here in the Philippines you get a quality of life not available in the US. Using Paul’s example retirement life in the US and add in being disabled the cost of living is through the roof and forget about American women for companionship, does not happen. Here in the Philippines, complete 180. Not retirement nirvana but infinitely better, plenty of caring Filipino ladies to help take care of you and they truly truly do care for you. Still, choose carefully and use referrals.

I've had the Winnebago for 17 years---been in every state and every province, seen everything there is to see and more, spend part of the year at my home in Florida, 3 months in New Zealand-----I'm single, close to your age and I need a big change. Going to get rid of all my shit and I'm coming to Dumaguete when I can. Hope I can be like you adjust and find a young woman who doesn't want to drag me everywhere because this world is a mess now. I'm glad I went and saw it all when I did, but I'm ready to follow your lifestyle now.
The flat tire thing has happen to me on 4 different times on Bohol and Pangloe Island 30 pesos each time to fix the tires But whats more important is the people that see your in trouble and will never allow you to be stranded . They help get the scooters to a vulcanizing place , helped me and my wife to get there also and stayed with us until we were able to travel again in case they couldnt fix the scooter. They didnt ask for anything even though i give them a couple hundred pesos to have a few beers on me for being kind . that is part of the adventure and thats what makes the trips worthwhile Also i always tipped for the tires being fixed because its always after hours and on a Sunday

Chuck 555 you will. I worked at a boring job and had 7 years to go but I did it . In the end a I earned a nice payout do to Store closing and been traveling to a lot of places of Covid killed it for the upcoming travel season.

Saw a post on Facebook of expat selling his house there that he actually built up in the mountains near Valencia. I’ve told him I’ll buy it if it’s half as nice as all the pictures he’s sent me. About a 15 minute ride to Dumaguete. Your videos are the best Paul. Look forward to maybe meeting you and Mae one day over coffee. On me. I’m committed now. Closed on the sale of my house and sold all my stuff. Everything I own now would fit in 4-5 balikbayan boxes. I am so happy to be rid of all that stuff and clutter. Wow what a great depiction of the two retirement scenarios! I felt I was there w you in the Winnebago. 😕 w the dog, the old companion, dull neighbors, the predictable routine and expense. It encapsulated the whole of the two options and boiled it down to showing up for Groundhog Day or a daily exotic adventure w the new, the different, the wild, the challenging and the kind beautiful people. I think the commenter that inspired this trip got more than his money’s worth! Along w us. What a ride. Great reality contrast like I had never heard made before. Now I k why you are getting so many subs and what makes expats so happy there - you painted a clearer picture.

I'm with you, Paul...when I hit 62 I'm definitely retiring. I don't want to wait til 65 just so I can make $300 more a year. My old man died at 67 so life is too short. I am working 2 jobs (Full & Part Time) and hopefully, I'll get a 27 year work retirement with the State of Florida and Social Security. I've been to the Philippines more than 5 times and even though The Philippines doesn't have what the U.S. has, as far as infrastructure and food, I could make that up with friends and a much easier life with the retirement I'll make in the Philippines compared to the bigger bills and no friends in the U.S.

Paul, I had so many laughs with this vlog. I was an RVer for many years and lived full-time in my Motorhome with a wife, 2 children and 2 dogs for 3 years. The wife Homeschooled the children and I worked for the National Park Service. Now that wife is gone and the kids and dogs and I am in Cebu City with my Filipino family. Life is GOOD! Why didn't I do this 15 years ago???

Yep. I just subscribed. My lady is from the Philppines. I started researching about the P.I. in 2011. I watched Jack & Myra, Reekay, Souyummy Kuya Travis Kraft, Bud Brown, the late Mike Cason and others before I even went there. I have seen a few of your videos. Your happy go easy personality and intervesting videos are great. I hope my son would marry would marry a Filipina as well. That was my dads dream after retiring to get a Winnebago and travel the USA when he retired. Unfortunately that never happened. We did rent a Wiineanago with the big W on it and traveled through CA, OR and Washington. We did spend many days at different KOA and state camping grounds . Wow. Nothing like being chased and propsitioned by a lady boy and prosistutes!! Thats awesome that you paid 200PHP for a PHP to help a family get just a little firtjer ahead Thanks for sharing and keep the videos coming!

I love your analogy of retirement in the USA.I was retired here 3 years and brother you hit the nail on the head I spent 6 moths in the Philippines 3 months in Davao 2 months in Cebu and 1 month exploring its closest to a stress free life the people there (especially the girls) are so full of life happy smiling giggling looking forward . When this virus mess is over I will be a new expat .

Man I watch a lot of expat TH-cam videos.....this one, hands down, is the best so far!!! Ground Hog day is what made me retire early. Unlike a lot of expats who say they didn't move to the Philippines (or whatever country) to date younger women....well, I am coming to the Philippines to date younger women and I'm proud to admit it !!!

I'm 63, retired at 45. My older brother wants to work forever. Imo it comes down to where a person get's their feeling of value. I've definitely known men who hated their jobs, found no value there. When they retired they hated retirement, found no value there. See the pattern?
Something I heard when I was a kid. If you're happy when you're young you'll probably be happy when you're old. I found that true. Has very little to do with retired or not, relationship or not. If you have good health and enough money for the basics then happiness is up to you.

Great Episode Paul!... In the last few years (I am 64) I did the same "mental gymnastics" that you describe regarding "retirement? It was a frustrating experience until I read this quote by Henry David Thoreau...
"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life,
and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived."
And it was at that moment that I realized I would do what I told myself I would do when I lived in the Phillippines in the early '80s and that was return to live life...
So I put the plan in motion and except for the COVID delay I know I am on my way to an adventurous "retirement" although I have now banished that word from my life and am excited about life for the first time in many years... Thank you for all your entertainment, knowledge, and wisdom...

My dad tagged onto an RV scene once in Arizona. He was semi-retired and enjoyed going into the desert with his truck and camper.
I remember he told me the story once when the RV park denizens we’re all having a community potluck Thanksgiving dinner.
The people who had done it before would show up with ice-cream buckets to load up with. They would gobble their food, fill up their buckets and leave. General jostling and pushing. Dad said he was so creeped out he could hardly eat. There was hardly anything left for him anyway.
Yesss I know that feeling. I wake up everyday. I have to force myself to get up, muscle up enough energy to work for the day. My routine is 1 cup of caffeine and exceedrin tabs which have caffeine n aspirin to add extra boost

Great video! I did a two year practice retirement in Philippines a few years ago. Visited there several times before that. The thing I personally am of the opinion is that I needed fresh hobbies, and for me little routines. Really this could apply to any location. You have your TH-cam channel hobby. So many options. I agree with your views... cracking me up. I just retired and looking forward to returning to the Philippines. Whenever I visited Thailand or other countries, it was such a joy returning to the Philippines... even the stewardesses on the return flight could hold a conversation in English. Enjoy life, no rush, peace 😁
Thank you Sir for sharing,I have spent over a decade in the Philippines on and off three time a year and I am preparing to retire myself and now for the last 6 months in the USA semi retired, I really got a feel of what its like or would if I decided not to retire in the Philippines I call home and I am greatfull to have enjoyed and be around the buetiful people of that country for all those years I traveled around and experienced the culture it's not for everyone and as the food I discovered S&R and cook my favorite foods😀 what I have caught my self doing was as I got older my patience was less and the way it is in the Philippines you need to master its pace and have coffee as you said then regroup and be proud how blessed you are because I wish I was you happy and with my lady in the Philippines chilling. Rock on and enjoy life you earned it 💪 I hope on day I can visit you in your town it's very nice place.
Your best video yet. I feel exactly how you felt. I am 51, single, no children, and on VA disability (100%). I have been doing a lot of research regarding retiring/travelling abroad. Now I'm stuck in research mode. I want to be in "do" mode (after quarantine is over, I most definitely will be on my way to the Philippines for my first visit. I just saw Ground Hog Day last weekend for about the 10th time so hearing this from you is hilarious and also brings a jolt of reality. I’ve done my RV stint in my 30s so I’m on to other fun adventures in my near retirement years and looking forward to it. I think it helps to have a variety of interests to keep one busy and challenged as well as have fun. I guess I’m always a kid at heart so I welcome what each new day will bring! Thank you for sharing!
