Fun thing, when I was in a university we had to make a game demo as a project over a semester. When someone from my group found this town on the map and read about its history, we decided to make the game a tactical game where you would bring in the squag of mercernaries to Pyramiden on order from a person who bought it up and set up a research facility there. The backstory was, that the miners struck some weird substance with mutagenic properties while extracting coal, and that the city became a secret Soviet research facility, only to be scrapped due to immense danger that the substance posed and the fall of the Soviet Union. A former corrupt scientist bought the complex with terrorist money by promising them a bioweapon, but his project started to run late, prompting an assault from the groups that lend him the money. During this assualt the safety mechanisms in the facility got damaged, causing the mutagen outbreak. Our mercernaries started the game by getting their helicopter shot down by unknown entity and having to regroup in the storm. After the team joined up, they started encountering the enemies, but to their surprise they weren't alive anymore. Yes, we made a zombie themed tactical squad game set in Pyramiden. Or rather a demo. It wasn't very good, but we still managed to be rated as the best game that year.I guess the magic of the place helped.
Fantastic contrasts in this episode, from the stark “zombie-scape” to the dining, & and the capstone exquisite silk show!! Thank you for sharing your adventures!
This step's subject, Pyramiden, and being on land, seem to have inspired you into making one of your best videos, technically-speaking. Do you remember the step when you showed how the two of you can make a hiking video which appears to have been made by a whole film crew? Was it in Canada? This one is even more complex! The shooting and the editing are incredible; way above a "normal" TH-cam channel. It's a great example of why, in your survey, most patrons replied that they don't really need treats other than your videos. Bravo for the great work!
I love that hiking video! And the 'making of the hiking video' video. I have sent links for that to quite a few friends - superlative stuff. Extraordinary videos require skill and extraordinary hard work.
THE ENDING.... I almost spilled my tea.... Absolutely Gorgeous contrast of Human ART form on canvas of rusted metal and concrete, framed in merciless, but beautiful Arctic nature! Beautiful!! Well done!
OMG! I should not read through the comments before I comment. Everyone has described this step (episode) so well. I just love how you edit us through the story of Pyramiden. And then to end with that phenomenal Aerial Silk exercise and the way you edited it is just mind boggling to me, and I have done some editing.
The almost abrupt fade into the striking sound of the silks unraveling, made me wonder harder in anticipation of what you would offer next in the flow. So inspirational to think, move, and record that encapsulated response to Priamids standing remains. Thank you both.
That has to go down as one of the best videos you guys have produced, it starts with Kika doing the Tomb raider bit and ends with the aerial silks performance. Beautifully edited.
I have to say, among all your videos this is probably the best cinematography capturing the beautiful landscape and really puts the viewers in the scenes. Awesome work guys!
At 18:53 that was a re-breather - the soviets were pretty big on re-breather technology (like an aqualung but produces almost no bubbles because the air is re-circulated adding a little oxygen and scrubbing the co2). You can still buy Russian made rebreathers that look like that - but you only use them if you are both *really* skilled and *really* suicidal. Fantastic video as usual.
What a fantastic contrast at the end when Kika is doing her silk rope show! This is to me the best couple of minutes I can remember from all of your videos! Wonderful. Brought tears to my eyes 🥂
This form of activity is called "Urbex" as far I can remember ;-) And Btw, As a citizen of a communist (not by choice) country in Eastern Europe, I spent my young years in a very similar environment. Monuments of Lenin everywhere, propaganda inscriptions on every wall with the slogans of peace in the world ... The same interior design, furniture, (especially the upholstered armchairs!!!) in the canteen for employees / students. A gym, identical to the one I had at school. Sleepy atmosphere, nobody is in a hurry because there is nothing to rush to. For a moment I had the strange feeling that I even knew a waitress who served you drinks ... Finally, training on silk in a post-apocalyptic scenery. You have outdone yourself :-)
Unfortunately here the US that same ideology is being used by these groups have publicly stated they use Marxist teaching as their guidelines. Going back to the 50s -70s USSR. I am leaving

I never watch Uma films right away, I make sure I have food, no distractions, a beer and dim the lights and ABSOLUTELY ENJOY the movie!!! Gosh, this was a good one!
Kika doing silks reminds me of climbing trees when I was young. Incredible feeling of freedom and the joy of one's ability to solve three dimensional problems.
That first segment sailing to your destination was Cinematographically Golden!!❤ Not just the vistas and mountains but more so I thought to vignettes of moments ... and you know those dancing several leaping wavetop instances were the top of the top for me anyway. Ohh but you weren't done just yet were you? Just a marvelous piece of Art ... historic and distant and beautiful in its own right.
Hi Guys, Thanks for another great video... about the mine carts, there are 2 tracks. You attach your full mine cart to a cable that goes around a pully at the top of the system which then connects to the empty mine cart/s on the other track.... 1 track brings the full cart down, the other brings the empty's up. The empty carts coming up - help to slow the full carts coming down.
I love this episode! Every week I look forward to watching what you have created. I enjoy the story, I drink in the beautiful scenery, I share in your sense of wonder and discovery and I always learn something. And there always comes a point while I'm watching that I am reminded that you have actually filmed and edited every moment of the video and have selected synced music to every scene; and that you have built or rebuilt every inch of Uma, and have taken us along and shared part of this purposeful life you lead for years now. That is the moment when I usually just feel - blown away....This week's episode had many blow away moments; However the point where Kika rolls out her silks and starts doing her dance brought me to tears. You are truly artists! This is art! Thank you.
What a lovely ending! The silk in the industrial wasteland was a perfect contrast. You two are amazing! I own a tv production company and you two are killing it with the imagery.
The running brick pattern is even amazing even the difference between how they ran it on the building and how they ran it on the knee wall is very cool

Wow !! I love these "Steps" where it seems difficult to produce an entertaining episode. But you guys rock it !!!!! True talent and hard work.
My oldest daughter does silks, lyra and seer wheel as well as other circus arts... Those moments when you are able to perform silks in the craziest environments are just stunning. The contrast of the red against the desolate background is stark and beautiful. Your art is beautiful and beautifully captured. Thank you for sharing.
BRAVO! Tears welling up in my eyes. So much beauty revealed in desolation. A celebration of human endeavors-this region’s epic struggle. So grateful for your caring and sharing-giving us a treasure trove of vicarious experiences.
That was one of the most captivating videos I've ever seen. What a delight to be able to explore places like this with you, because I know the chances of my being able to do so myself in person are tiny and diminishing as I age. Doing your silks at the end, in the midst of the zombie apocalypse, was a master stroke. The weirdest thing is, being in the Northern Hemisphere, I'm watching this during some of the shortest days of the year, while you filmed this presumably last summer, during the white nights. It almost makes me forget the dark days I am in the midst of right now in rainy November Victoria, BC.
This is going to sound strange but...thank you for reminding me of your university training. You guys are such incredible sailors, DIY experts, craftspeople, explorers, environmental advocates, and videographers that I keep forgetting that you are degreed architects. And I agree with the others here. That silks routine was incredible.
amazing. love the video, the courage to wander around a completely foreign country - in an abandoned town. super cool seeing a piece of history "preserved".
What a fantastic experience. Thank you for sharing it with us. That has to be a world record for the most northerly silks performance right? Love what you do!
WOW!! I wrote my first comment remembering Kika's silks down in Norway mainland when she performed in the snow on a snow covered dock. Never expected such an amazing show in such an barren landscape. Another amazing proof that your videos stomp the others. Thank you both and UMA of course.
Wow! You have to watch this video until the end. I was almost not going to watch this video at all, but I sure am glad I did. This was fantastic. I want to go to this place myself now. This was really well made too. Top notch film making, you would swear they had a film crew to make this video.
It’s dangerous and being too sore can get you killed. So as advice ride a slow reliable semi heavy motorcycle like a Honda shadow 600 or something (mines 25 years old and I don’t have a car) building body strength and resilience is my point. If you really ride and adapt, you can survive sailing…So I have to do my part, then I’m outta here. My biggest problem is misunderstanding the laws codes and regs. It’s a pain but maybe not so bad. I wish I could bring my bike with me. Aircraft carriers can carry aircraft so why not? Good luck to you tho 🍀.
I've long admired you guys, but this is another level! I'm quite emotional! The beauty of a Canadian, Haitian, Norwegian, Russian people, Russian visit - all speaking English, extremely friendly people, being enjoyed by a few hundred thousand people (eventually, if viewing trends continue) is really rather beautiful! No vodka was involved in the writing of this, though homemade parsnip wine was - also extraordinary stuff
Parsnip wine? Intriguing, is it just fermented parsnips? I agree always inspiring to see people from such different backgrounds getting along. If we can do it, so can our leaders.
@@joecrafted I'd heard it was supposed to be about the best non-grape wine and found that extremely difficult to believe. I'm not really a homebrew fan but decided to test the stories I'd heard. Basically, roughly chop 2 or 3 kilos of parsnips, add a heap of sugar, boil for 10 to 15 mins. Remove all parsnips, let the water cool to room temp. Sprinkle wine yeast on top blah blah blah. Leave for at least a year, quaff. It really is by far the best homemade wine I have ever tasted. I may have added a bit much sugar because it was v alcoholic and still sweet - a bit like a Sauternes.
This is kinda surreal. And unbelievable. Just perfect. It makes me question all the info about this channel. It is damn impossible for just two people to create such great videos. This easily beats NG, Discovery, and BBC combined. HOW???
Glad you’re there, will be equally glad to see you sail safely away, as there is a “creepy” factor to this abandoned place. The music captured that perfectly. Thanks for taking us along. Thanks for your bravery, dear world class explorers!
IMO possibly the best video you have produced. Amazing scenery, great facts & history, capped off with the silks accompanied by some great music. Fantastic job Dan & Kika, keep up the great work Thank you & fair winds ⛵️⛵️
You guys Simply Marvelously done from start to the finish you never disappoint us with your talents to portray what is on this planet, Thank you !!!!!!!!
Absolutely outstanding, you two. The juxtaposition of Kika and her red aerial silks against the stark arctic coal mine just blew me away. What you've put together with such artistry would win an Emmy on TV, and this video is just a tiny part of your adventures that are unlike anything else. Fair winds and following seas, my friends. I'll always be watching.
I work with recycled timber, and was struck by how valuable all that aged lumber is in that place. There must be a couple of shiploads worth up that hill. Part of me can appreciate it for the story it tells.. The other part want's to get in there and start cleaning and fixing things lol.
Dan and Kika have a unique talent in that they talk to the camera as if it (us) were long time best friends. They only know me as a click on their videos but are the kind of people I wish I had as long time best friends. Watching the silk dancing I thought if Kika challenged me to an arm wrestle I would immediately say "You win!" so I didn't get hurt.
I thought this was one of the best videos you have ever made. The editing and choice of music are great. This is also such an unfamiliar area and so few people go there. As a result, it becomes even more influential. It is also a fact that such an abandoned area, with all the rubbish, has an attraction. On the other hand, we humans (at least some of us) do not want to treat the earth this way.
I've been learning a lot about this place! You and Yes Theory are my favorite channels...and you both went to the same place around the same time frame. Fascinating stuff
Amazing episode as always and the silks performance and cinematography a wow I spent a winter there and wanted to mention that it’s not just Polar bear territory but also white foxes one . And they are beautiful creatures
27:10 As someone who has worked in places that are dominated by tourists, being invited to a place the employees go to get away from the tourists is a big deal. Of course, you guys are extremely cool, so that's what does it, I think.
THE most beautiful video you two have yet made. The ending was epic. The dramatic contrast of a freeborn Kika dancing with her bright red silks against the bleak dark abandoned communist era coal mine was so impactful. You both are incredibly talented. We applaud you. 👏
What an awesome video. The town and the mine must have been spectacular in its hay day. Do you think about when this was built it was quite a feat. Great drone shots too. Another great adventure for you both.
Wonderful to see the opportunities you are having at your ages. The stories you'll have to tell as you get older! Love the color of the water, you did great with this video. Thanks.
Stunning video of an amazing place! It's so fascinating when you are showing your architectural nerdiness. I read on Wikipedia that Pyramiden was founded by Sweden in 1910, and here I am living in a Swedish wooden house built in 1907. I wonder what Pyramiden had looked like if it had stayed Swedish and not sold to the USSR in 1927? The silk show at the end is fantastic! In this abandoned Soviet mining town the red silks take on new meanings.
I do not comment typically, however this video is by far some of your best work. The skill with the silk at the end sent it over the top. Now get out of the cold, head South I'm too cold and I'm not putting on another layer, need some hot sun and Caribbean vibes. lol
This is one of the coolest episodes we've watched on TH-cam and trust me - we watch a LOT of shows and have for years. The ending was just killer with that stunning backdrop. Kudos! Love the show, guys.
This was a truly amazing episode, all the camera work, the adventure, the location. That ending was one of the prettiest things I've seen all month, could be a stand-alone video on it's own.

Having followed you from the start, I witnessed your progression.
- Your camera shots and editing have reached the highess level. True professionals.
Your hard work payed off, enjoy the success and laurels . They are well deserved. ;)
Just come across this video. Wow! To quote the old BBC values I have been educated, informed and entertained. The most professional self made video I think I have come across to date. You have another new subscriber and thank you for the entertainment.
Absolutely beautiful video. Thank you for making it
Stunning silk show at the end. Genuinely a beautiful Grand Finale. Thank you so much for the extraordinary treat. We Love You Guys!!!! Please keep the videos coming. :)
And the music with that was superb.
Just tremendous
@@Sommers234 How much fun is this ? I have seen this mittle in Chicago a industrial grawe.
And other US - Cities too.
A fantastic and unexpected finale indeed - great work
Spectacular share! Your footage and editing is beyond exemplary, and the juxtaposition with your silks at the end was a gift like no other. Thank you!
I agree with the others, your cinematography is advancing very quickly in all areas and you have placed yourselved in such a content rich environment. Of all channels out there, you make me the most jealous of your adventures but also provide a perfect balance of what I enjoy and anticipate watching on TH-cam, usually laying in bed early in the morning or late at nite when wifey is fast asleep! Congrats on all of this and we wish you happiness and safety to continue as long as you care too! The world is a big place and thank you for sharing your journeys with us all!
👏👏👏👏💯
Awesome
@TheBlobik Wow, all that effort just to earn a handful of likes for your comment. You should make a video about the making of that game!
The name of the town in Russian is exactly - PIRAMID. Piraminden it's other language. I forgot which one.
@@nupagadii5834 Pyramiden is the Norwegian name
@@nupagadii5834 It has power still.
Fully agree. Love the cinematics
I love that hiking video! And the 'making of the hiking video' video. I have sent links for that to quite a few friends - superlative stuff. Extraordinary videos require skill and extraordinary hard work.
The locations you visit are absolutely breathtaking ... thanks so much for sharing with us. :-)
THE ENDING.... I almost spilled my tea.... Absolutely Gorgeous contrast of Human ART form on canvas of rusted metal and concrete, framed in merciless, but beautiful Arctic nature! Beautiful!! Well done!
This is the first episode I have seen of your channel and I have to say this was such a magical adventure. Completely awesome!
Absolutely amazing! You two are viewing the world in a way most will never see. I'm very glad you are sharing it with us all. Thank you both.
Lots of love from Türkiye 🇹🇷🍀🧿🙏🧜♀️🧜♂️
This form of activity is called "Urbex" as far I can remember ;-)
And Btw,
As a citizen of a communist (not by choice) country in Eastern Europe, I spent my young years in a very similar environment.
I have to compliment the quality of this and the choice of music, it's perfect. Well done you two, this a pleasure to watch.
Kika, the image of your elegant, gorgeous silk work, against the broken dystopian background was just stunning. I loved this video so much!
The videography, the audio, the editing. Simply stunning. I love following your adventures. Thank you for being such wonderful human beings.
What a great episode. Love all the camera angels and such beautiful scenery.
Amazing! Nice touch with the swooshing effect when you fast forward the drone videos. Red silk in Russia.
The cinematography is at another level as is Kika’s maneuvering skills leaving the dock! Outstanding 🤙
Wow, absolutely amazing!
One of your best episodes ever, totally fascinating and so beautifully shot. Congratulations!
This is my second viewing of this video. You're.showing us places we would likely never see, ways people live we'd never encounter. The footage and editing are really awesome. 👍
Absolutely one of your best videos! Us wanna be traveler/sailors really appreciate this. You guys took it to another level!! Thank you:))
You all get excellent kudos on your videography -- but your audio work is something else too. It's immersive when you have sounds of the footsteps on the faraway shots. Good job... great job
By far, the best You Tube Sailing channel out there! Keep up the great work!
I am currently doing fiberglass work on my boat. I think I'm going to sail around the world too. I blame you guys for filling my head with fancy dreams. Keep up the good work.
I have been watching use for 3 years now and I think the reason why I enjoy watching you guys so much is because use simply be yourselves
I feel that the effort you two display demands recognition and applause! Well done !! Thank you for sharing 👍😁
You guys are quickly becoming my favorite sailing channel. Great subject matter, video quality, lots of actual sailing, plus your whole approach to life is just so refreshing. Keep it up, fair seas.
Thank you for the date and time, I was getting worried that you were staying in the north for too long. A really interesting and well produced video!
It's awesome how you can walk around without someone blocking you or saying out of bounds. Wonderful film!
As always Kika when you perform: Just gorgeous
Thank you.
The colour of the silk against the harsh industrial backdrop, sensational.
What a lovely ending! The silk in the industrial wasteland was a perfect contrast. You two are amazing! I own a tv production company and you two are killing it with the imagery.
Awesome video! I hope you guys have fair weather and following seas!
The running brick pattern is even amazing even the difference between how they ran it on the building and how they ran it on the knee wall is very cool
Ya'll have long since outgrown this poor man sailor, but im glad i returned for this video. I might not be a subscriber or watch many of your videos any longer, but I am very happy for your success and wish you all the best.
Oh my goodness !! You guys continue to raise the bar from a "I am there with you guys" type of experience, to a cinematography that amongst all the sailing channels that is far beyond the others. Wow !! I love these "Steps" where it seems difficult to produce an entertaining episode. But you guys rock it !!!!! True talent and hard work.
Entertaining, educational and down right beautiful! You guys are at the top of your game and just keep getting better and better!
Beautiful ending with Kika on the cloth!
Really cool episode, exploring like you do is the best, I'm so glad you've shared this adventure.
I've been following along with you two, and I must say this might be my favorite video to date!! Kudos to both of you!! 👏
Among the best EVER! Quality blend of sights, sounds, curiosity, history. music, art and talent. Three thumbs up!
HOW???
31:31 that jet flying in the background along with the silk performance was awesome.
you two are the best educators, sailing instructors, videographers, this was breath taking. Thank you
Glad you’re there, will be equally glad to see you sail safely away, as there is a “creepy” factor to this abandoned place. The music captured that perfectly. Thanks for taking us along. Thanks for your bravery, dear world class explorers!
IMO possibly the best video you have produced. Amazing scenery, great facts & history, capped off with the silks accompanied by some great music.
Fantastic job Dan & Kika, keep up the great work
Thank you & fair winds ⛵️⛵️
You guys Simply Marvelously done from start to the finish you never disappoint us with your talents to portray what is on this planet, Thank you !!!!!!!!
You just made every other sailing channel 2nd rate. Bravo and congrats on what would be sailing channel video of the year.
Even in its decaying condition the area has a majestic feeling . Glad to see the visitor center so welcoming.
Amazing episode as always and the silks performance and cinematography a wow
I spent a winter there and wanted to mention that it’s not just Polar bear territory but also white foxes one .
You guys are getting better and better! This episode is amazing and professional. The last few scenes are breathtakingly beautiful. Total respect!
The hillside would probably have been dotted with tiny Faluröda stugor :D
I do not comment typically, however this video is by far some of your best work. The skill with the silk at the end sent it over the top. Now get out of the cold, head South I'm too cold and I'm not putting on another layer, need some hot sun and Caribbean vibes. lol
This is one of the coolest episodes we've watched on TH-cam and trust me - we watch a LOT of shows and have for years. The ending was just killer with that stunning backdrop. Kudos! Love the show, guys.
fantastic video. I felt such sadness and .. nostalgia, watching this harsh yet beuatiful landscape, and almost completely abandoned city...
Outstanding. Kika and Dan, you are my heroes.
This was a truly amazing episode, all the camera work, the adventure, the location. That ending was one of the prettiest things I've seen all month, could be a stand-alone video on it's own.
