This is great if you have a diving school and you are trying to find good spots to dive. You just drive around, map the area to then find the perfect spots for your pupils/customers.

I always wondered how submarines "see" underwater; this is what's on the commercial market.
Subs rarely use active sonar and when they do its almost never bottom mapping. Many countries like Japan do not have active sonar on there subs at all.
HobbsBhipp :using sonar on a sub would give its position away as other subs and ships can see where the sonar signal is coming from so they don't use it.
@Dank Gang Passive sonar. They just listen. Google "Sonar waterfall display"
So are you running two ducers ? The big 3d ducer or the smaller airmar ? Trying to figure out which one to order I already have the 3d module box
Have you get a big fish in 3d structure scan, and recoded or picture? like to see how they look like in 3D
love the video thanks man . i am often in shallow water in canals to be exact and i would like to know how good structurescan 3d would work in depths of about 7 to 15 feet. the canals are between 100 and 160 feet wide . maybe you could even make a video when you are in really shallow water the next time . keep up the good work i love your videos greetings from germany

It was honest to goodness the first time I ever saw it. I guess I was impressed! You can change the pallet. The brown pallet shows the fish in yellow.

Just busting your stones.....Does it show fish really close to the bottom? I'm about to sell my 2 lowrance 12's and move to 1 simrad 16......that machine is sick. How far away is the gopro from your screen when you are filming it?

It really hasent been great for finding game fish, it displays such a huge area, I use chirp sonar in a another panel for that.
Why are you not seeing any bigger fish? The only thing I saw you pick up on the scan was bait fish. What do the bigger fish look like on Simrad?
Bigger fish also show like the bait does, as dots. This doesn't replace Sonar. It helps you to understand where Structure is in relationship to your boat. Thanks for the comment.

The 3D feature was good when it first came out for guys that need help with perspective. It helps show where YOU are in relation to structure, but side scan shows detail and resolution at much higher quality. Also, the side scan built into the 3D system has more elements than previous structure scans and WAY WAY WAY out performs them. It shifts between the elements in different depths. It’s really awesome. But, with that being said, nowadays the Active Imaging side scan is even better still.
since its so much will it at least do chirp too? I swear they release this things in stages just to get us to spend more money
It is only structure scan 3D. It is designed to replace the LSS 2 box and transducer.

How do you know how deep the fish swims i only see the depth in the upper left corner under the boat
There are white numbers that show depth directly under the boat, in this case you see a number 15. In deeper water you will see more numbers showing depth.
Was is to prevent you, as the owner of that device, from mounting that transducer on a pole that pivots in a bracket, and turning it 90 degrees so that you can see in front of you and not get stuck on a sand bar in the Wisconsin River? Without having to fork out 3grand.
You could do that. You would have to go very slow.
I was hoping I could use this to digitize things but I guess it won't work. Sort of like those cameras they use to make digital versions of ordinary objects like for a video game.

Mark N not with this set up. There is forward Scan you can add to this system, but it's not designed to mark fish. It's for larger vessels to avoid running aground.

So if I already have the 2D structure scan transducer and module on my compatible Simrad, will this 3D transducer and module replace the 2D equipment? I'm wondering if I can take out the 2D equipment and sell?
Yes sir. It replaces the module and the transducer. But the transducer has two plug ends on it so you may want to wait to see if you have room for them. They require a larger hole than the LSS 2.
If you turned this on out of water and used 3d mode could it render other structures like if you had the transducer and walked past a parked car with it would it show up on screen? Always wanted to try this.
Unfortunately no, it wouldn't work. It is Sonar and not Radar.
Mike Smedley I guess sonar travels better in water than in air. It's like if you bang two rocks together underwater its a lot louder than In air.

Are you using the NSS Evo2 display or the NSO Evo2 display? What size is the display?
NSS evo2 16". The Nso has no buttons or knobs on it and carries a processor box designed for bigger boats.
Hi Mike, After the software update which support chirp, What type of transducer you fill in the installation page? I understand the 3D type, but for Echo I lost...
The Structure 3D has really nothing to do with sonar with the evo2. Sonar means reg broadband or chirp. "Structure" means Structure. On the sonar installation page, only enter your reg or chirp transducer do not look for a 3D. On structure page select sources bottom right and pick 3D structure. That will pick the 3D transducer. If this is for a Go series it may be different.

i know this is an open question but is the 3D worth the extra $1000? id be going from a HDS 10 gen 1 to the gen 3.
Peter. It depends on the user. The 3D is really cool to look at. It kind of combines side and down view. If you had trouble fully understanding side scan and where returns actually are 3D certainly makes that easier, but you are viewing a 3D image on a 2D screen so some imagination helps. I love the enhanced side scan more than 3D when fishing. The range is incredible. I personally think it is worth it just for the enhanced side scan, but if you fish 10 times a year maybe it's not worth it to you. If you want the absolute BEST available side scan in the world. This is it. Hope this helps.
Mike, I am looking at getting an NSS9 EVO2 and picking up the 3D structure scan module when it comes out hopefully next month. What other transducer do I need? Just one to run chirp echo? I'm thinking the 3D transducer will do 2D side scan and down scan as well, is that correct?
Right. The 3D kit will cover down and side scan as well. I recommend the T150M chirp transducer. It's less expensive and it will give you Medium chirp, 83 khz broadband sonar, or custom sonar frequencies.

I Have a NSE 12 onboard with structure Scan. It is a good tool but does not compare with those 3D images you are showing! How can i up grade To 3d?
Unfortunately as of right now, it won't be compatible with the NSE. only with Evo2 or Lowrance gen 3.

Dose this hook up to the gps unit or will it hook up to the bsm3 or do you need the 3d mod.
I requires a new processor that replaces the LSS BOX and a new transducer. It runs $999.

Has this 3D really made a difference in your fishing some good fish?
I don't use the 3D view much, but I really love the enhanced side scan that is in the 3D package. It is amazing compared to the standard structure scan. The 3D transducer has more elements than the LSS-2.
Sorry for so many questions.... I just purchased the EVO2 (9") and the 3D scan but I'm somewhat confused as to how to hook up the 3D module to the back of the actual unit. The cable the 3D module came with is the ethernet cable. Is that the port I'm suppose to use? I just want to make sure before I hook it up, turn it on and potentially ruin the unit.

I really don't know what the max depth would be. I personally don't fish water deeper than a few hundred feet. 2000 ft seems beyond the capabilities of 3D, but I don't know for sure.
Yes it seems also for me..but here for our deepfishing with electric reels , we got to use echo sounders of 3KW of power 25 or 50 Hz working till 2000 ..2500 feet ( -600...-800mt) to have a nice resolution between 1000 and 1800 feet..Ciao thx

So this is the first time you've used it? It does appear to be easy to operate but you don't really understand what you're doing. No, you can't see through rock ridges and see the other side. After all, it's not a photo, it's a computer generated image.
Jim Springer you're right on. It was the first time. I wasn't aware at the time, but there are several elements to each side and one down that work together off of each other so it's a technical storm. I'm not very savvy on the science of it all. This video is pretty good

Can you use the lss2 transducers or do I need to buy new transducers? I have lss2 thru hull x2, plus sonar hub had about 3 months very happy with it but this looks great
I believe it's gonna be a new transducer and processing module linked through the ethernet connection.

abit38 I doesn’t show larger returns as arches like traditional sonar. All suspended marks appear as dots. You will still need sonar to see fish.
I've been watching Simrad and Ray marine 3d for hours and have yet to see a big fish. Everything is bait balls and 2 min videos for the most part. It's like no one wants to show what or what not these systems can do. No one has run through color changes or refining the views. This is the best one so far so I'm pretty turned off by these two brands so far.
3D is good for those that need help with structure and it’s relation to the boat. It’s not good for finding fish and the resolution can’t compare with side scan. It’s old technology already.
why are the monitors so dam expensive, seems like price gouging to me.. i mean the monitors which hook up to the computer.. 100nit fair enough but so bloody expensive
garmin echo looks crap in comparison, but at least your not paying through the nose
Foxy rollins they have to be way brighter to be seen in sunlight. 2400 nit. The display now have alot of processing built in. They are loaded machines unlike a computer display.
