Lean forward! Make gravity your friend. Pump after a warm shower. Download a book you’ll look forward to reading each session or save a fun tv show to watch during pumping so you have something to look forward to. Use a 3-tiered cart by your pumping spot to hold your pumping supplies, snacks, coconut oil, nipple cream, burp clothes and other essentials. Have snacks and water within arms reach. Buy an oversized nursing sweatshirt or fleece so you can stay warm and don’t have to lift your shirt, especially at night. Stick your pumping parts in a large plastic bag and put in the fridge between pumping instead of washing each time. This means you only have to wash them once or twice a day.

    If I am a 20mm in a nipple shield would I be a 20 mm in size of a flange ?

Unfortunately flanges and nipple shield sizes don’t always correlate. You will usually use a bigger flange size than nipple shield, the nipple shield is meant to fit snuggly on the nipple and the flange should give the nipple room to move without rubbing
PS : this is such a great question!

I’m only able to produce 2oz total when I pump without breastfeeding at all. Is there anything I can do to increase my supply at this point my baby is 6 months old.

I want to exclusively pump from birth but I feel like I’m going to be discouraged from this at the hospital. How should I handle this? I didn’t enjoy on the breast with my other child because I couldn’t tell how much she was getting. It’s not something I want to be talked out of. 😕

I would talk to your care provider in advance of this and include it in your birth plan. I don’t know what your plans are for birth location but my daughter was in the NICU so my care team at the hospital got me pumping regularly right after birth. I would think your care team would know this protocol too, have access to a hospital grade pump, and support your journey! Lactation consultants should be able to support your exclusive pumping journey and be a great resource for you, so definitely reach out!

Oh yes!! Very important. Around 3-4 liters per day during lactation.
