KL is very safe. You can even walk around at 3 am. But it wouldn't hurt to hang on tight to your handbag. You won't know when you may encounter the rare mishap

    • @jonmath4182
      @jonmath4182 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

Yup. Generally it is safe. But anywhere you go, anywhere in the world, you should always be mindful of your belongings, including your bags and phones, and try avoiding secluded dark and deserted alleys. There's no need to be overly paranoid but do not be careless either. Hope you guys enjoy a wonderful time wherever you travel to!

Tbh as a Malaysian i never regard KL as safe at least I won't ever let my guard down by being lax with my belonging or travelling alone in secluded place. There's too many cases of robbery and snatch theft on the news even though it has yet to happen to me. I've witnessed robbers running away with after doing the deed and shady people jump into my property scouting my cars while I'm alone in the house. Better be safe than sorry.

  • @bukitkatilmp

Kampung Baru and Malay villages in general have very low crime rates as the residents work together forming commitees to protect themselves and visitors to the place. Btw, all the residents in Kampung Baru are actually millionaires in property terms, as their land is in prime area and they refuse to sell it for development. Malays believe preserving their culture is more important than all the money in the world 🙂

99 speedmart is a chain of stores across Malaysia and Singapore. You're right. It's your neighborhood go to store round the corner with cheaper prices than supermarkets even. Founded by a wheelchair bound guy who still runs it.

Statistically 2022, Malaysia rank 18 peaceful country in the world and rank 2 in Southeast Asia after Singapore.. About kg baru, they have some issue, for many many years the malaysian government trying to get the land in Kampung Baru for infrastructure to make more skyscrapers, but they didn't get it.. The people there do not want to sell it, they still defend the land..

17:34 Yes, 99 Speedmart is a local retail chain with more than 2000 stores in the whole of Malaysia. Prices are considerably cheaper than 7 Eleven, since 99 Speedmart is locally owned.
19:21 Ice cream potong, the traditional ice cream of Malaysia, I think it only cost about 5 cents in the 1960s (according to my grandma 😁 She was a child during 1960s Malaysia) 🥰

Ice cream potong is very traditional. Potong means cut. Back in the day ,peddler will either come on a moped or bicycle with cooler box which has dry ice in it. The ice cream is about 2 feet long and about 1 x 1 inch square and has wax paper wrapper( tightly wrapped around) They will cut (potong) it to about 4 inches whenever someone orders it, that is why it is called ais krim potong (cut ice cream). They would stick in wooden toothpick (2 or 3 bunched together) or coconut leave stick (lidi) at the bottom for you to hold it. The most traditional flavors are jagung(corn) and kacang merah (red bean). Sometimes, you can stick in a bun like an ice cream sandwich.

Kampung Baru land ownership is somewhat unique : by law made in 1950 the lands here could only be owned and bought by and sold to Malaysians of Malay ethnicity (not Malaysians of other ethnicities, say Chinese or Indians). Over years their Malay owners have resisted modern development by the government and private developers - hence you see what you see today.

The Land is under Malay/Bumiputera Status Quo it's not since 1950. It's the law in each Malay State before 1948.
You can't purchase Malay/Bumiputera land unless you are Bumi or Malay.
For Kelantan, Sabah and Sarawak the state law stated that only Kelantanis or Sabahan or Sarawakian can buy those land. Others state don't care.
As for resistance against Urbanization it's not resistance it's was it is. Kg Baharu exits before Malaya Federation 1948 aka before Kuala Lumpur become our capitol.
There's also something similar in Melaka. Portuguese Village.

Unfortunately Snatchers are real in Kuala Lumpur. Kg. Baru is still undeveloped not because the government doesn’t want to but the local there doesn’t want to move out. The government still trying to get the community out but many plans failed through.

Expats who stay for a longer time. 3+ months.
How do you manage your money and pay for things?
I imagine you dont bring heaps of cash to exchange it everytime?
Currently have a wise card. Are you able to pay with card in most places?
Or do you have money on lets say a Wise card and go to a local atm spot and withdraw cash?
    Thanks!

"Hello everybody, this is Byanca." While your boyfriend just stands there? No introduction of him? Really kinda rude, girl.
