I’ve grown to appreciate the Born in the USA album. It’s about the decay of American cities and the blue collar working man. All these years later, it’s still a powerful indictment and commentary on the USA. Listen to the lyrics of “Born in the USA…” it’s not what you think.
I agree, Born In The USA needs a close listen, or it seems like patriotic nonsense. But it's actually about Viet Nam veterans returning from war and finding things hostile. He played it for many of them to make sure he was telling their story and feelings accurately.
@@GS-xt8fuFor a few years after, they used to stop in the middle of a song - at the line “The big man joined the band” and play a tribute video. They still play the video now but don’t stop the song.
His lyrics are so amazing. “…girls comb their hair in the rearview mirrors and the boys try to look so hard…” my god, that’s half a decade of my life summed up. Simple words, universally relatable meanings.
The last concert I saw him in, he was 62 years old and the energy was electric as he was wide open and we, the crowd, were right there with him. His shows are the best I have went to.
Thanks for the great reaction gentlemen. The last Springsteen concert I went to only lasted 3 hours and 5 minutes. I guess he was tired that night. RIP Clarence.
Tom Petty told a pretty cool story about playing at a large Rock Festival where Bruce Springsteen was the Headliner. The two bands that performed before Bruce and the E-Street Band we’re Jackson Brown and Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers. Both Rock legends in their own rights. As Jackson Brown finished up his set and came back stage Tom Petty asked him how it went on-stage. Jackson Brown responded that it it went pretty well but told Tom Petty that if it sounds like the audience is booing them to not let it throw them as they weren’t booing but chanting “Bruce!”. Tom Petty replied “Hell that’s even worse!”. 😂😂
Bruce was "The Boss" because of that live clips they showed in here. His Live performances were, and are, legendary. And he didn't really have any pop 'hits' until Born In The USA, yet he was still legendary because of blue collar lyrics and his epic Live shows. 3 hours+ every night gets you famous if you're good at it.
This song is the signature song always sung at Monmouth Park for the Haskell horse race. Awesome to be there and since he’s a local person a lot of us know everybody is singing.
The entire album is about the decay of American cities as we fought in Vietnam and outsourced American jobs. The death of blue collar America. Still powerful and relevant today. Listen to that album and realize why we’re politically at the point we are today.
@@BadgerBJJ 🎼You nailed it 100%. It all happened with Ronald Reagan and his “Trickle Down Economics”. They busted the middle class by busting the Unions. Those good old Republicans did it all. Like I said, you nailed it and I helped by slamming my hammer too. By the way, Springsteen is a Democrat…🎼
@@chrisjenkins6120 I think it started in the 1970s, that’s why Reagan was elected. Reagan in the USA and Thatcher in the UK. The reality is that very little trickled, and when it did, Clinton shipped manufacturing to China and Mexico.
I've had the pleasure of seeing Bruce a number of times. At the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ. On the street a couple of times and everyday for about 6 months in 1988. At the time I was in the Marine Corps and stationed near my home town. One of the guys had served in the Navy with Bruce's manager and somehow he ended up using a large area in our building to rehearse for his upcoming tour. Every day around noon the band showed up and practiced for hours, met the whole group.
Back then when Bruce would do inside concerts it was said he would jump over tables with his guitar ...Now that i just saw that jump he did..I definitely get it.. Thanks
I've seen Bruce and the band 3 times in the last 6 months on this current world tour! At 72 they all still rock and leave it all on the stage every night! Can't wait to see them in Philly next month!!!!
Great reaction. You need to react to 10th AVENUE FREEZE OUT (Live in New York City) - One of the greatest live performances ever. It's long because he does an extended breakdown during the middle before he introduces the band but his introduction of Clarence Clemons near the end is epic.
I think you guys are great. Love your opinions, knowledge & conversations PLEASE Springsteen live waiting on a sunny day The banding him show you the fun they have together Peace rock on
I was at one of the open air concerts on this tour in 1985 at Roundhay Park, Leeds ENGLAND. 100,000 people there and a 4hr concert.....awesome experience.
I agree that Bruce Springsteen isn't the greatest vocalist - especially live (the studio version of this song sounds better) but he and his band have great energy and intensity. He's also a brilliant song-writer. Other artists have done his songs too - including "Fire" by the Pointer Sisters.
Yep...another case of - "not a great voice, but a great singer." I've always loved Bruce's vocals...well, up until about the early 90s. They started to change then and have been on a rapid decline the last 20 years. I feel bad for the singers who lose their ability with age. It's not like a guitar where you can just keep buying new strings.
THIS IS IT Reactions, when Bruce released this song, I was already working at 18 years of age, so that gives all 3 of you young guys just how old I am. I had been starting to buy my own records thanks for these great songs I at one point owed many records and they are on your reaction video list. so, thanks once again.
Bruuuuuce!!! His concerts were legendary. He would play for 3-4 hrs at that high energy level. When everyone was chanting his name it sounded like boooo lol. The Boss indeed. Clarence was legendary as well ❤
Bruce springsteen is one of the great American songwriters he always tells stories in his lyrics. He is the songwriter, producer and director of his Band which he put together when he was nineteen and he is going again in tour in 2024 with that original Band except for two members that passed away the sax player that he replaced him with his nephew and the organ player that he also replaced with an awesome one.
At one of his shows in 2008, this song was playing. I was in the stadium seating behind the stage and there was a very intoxicated fan in front of us. With the full band going, house lights flashing, we were all high fiving each other until this guy started leaning back further...and further. Finally, a bunch of us grabbed him by the shirt so he wouldn't fall because he had lost his balance. He regained his footing and kept partying like nothing had happened. It was hilarious and genuinely a fun experience. What I like about this video is that it shows how much the band puts into their concerts. Especially when the wife is left at home - the boys play a little extra hard!
Glory Days - Bruce Springsteen and E Street Band. Guys, another great song would love to see you react to as you continue on the Bruce Springsteen journey. Top 5 billboard music charter from ‘85 and huge hit of his. Keep on keeping on gents and thanks for making it fun!
GENTLEMEN if you listen to sing Mickael Jackson, BeYonce, Queen, Celine Dion, or Taylor Swift you have a lot of sugar, fun but no guts! Bruce is sincerity, guts, humanity and he is the greatest storyteller in the history of rock... Quite simply!
I LOVED the Born to Run album back in the day! I was 16 when it came out and stayed up most weekend nights playing the 8 track on repeat. Tenth Avenue Freeze Out and Thunder Road are two of my favorites off the album.
That's funny because I've actually described him as a whole lot of good enough with two things in spades. He has great lyrics and a ton of energy, and all that energy pulls that "good enough" to great.
IN 1975 I WAS 16 YEARS OLD LIVING IN THE GREATEST TOWN FOR MUSIC SAN FRANCISCO , SEEN BRUCE AND THE BAND 11 TIMES BETWEEN 75 - 78 , 1ST TIME HE PLAYED 5 SOLDOUT NIGHTS AT WINTERLAND ARENA AND EVERY SHOW WAS 4 - 5 HOURS LONG , IT WAS ALWAYS A BIG PARTY WITH BRUCE AND THE BOYS. THOSE 75 , 76 SHOWS AT BILL GRAHAMS WINTERLAND WERE LEGENDARY .. THEY WERE ALL RECORDED BUT NEVER OFFICIALLY RELEASED , IN 84 I BOUGHT A 26 ALBUM SET OF ENTIRE 75 RUN AT WINTERLAND , THEY STILL HAVE NEVER RELEASED IT OFFICIALLY, IT'S A÷ SOUND IN STEREO AND AND WAS MIXED... I PAID $290 IN 84 AND SAW SAME SET ONLINE GOING FOR 1,600 DOLLARS , NONE OF THE SHOWS EVEN BRUCE CHATTING WITH THE CROWD IN BETWEEN SONGS HAS NOT BEEN EDITED ... ITS PRICELESS..😊
Give me an artist that's raw and real over one that may have greater range and does lots of voice tricks but is putting on a show, any day! For the same reason I love seeing someone dance that is not concerned at all with how it looks over someone that has perfect muscle control and is very aware. I mean I can respect both but the first will hit me straight in the heart and soul. Bruce Springsteen, I mean I don't have his albums or know a whole lot about him but there are definitely songs that hit me in the heart. This is not one of them, but who cares when millions of others will :) Have a great day all!
When this song came out, it was deleted into the weekend on Friday night on the top rock station in the country WMMS.. I saw his show a couple of times at the Richfield Coliseum in Cleveland on New Year's Eve. And let me assure you it was electric. This is his oncore tune and the crowd just goes ape shit
Springsteen did a one man Broadway show a few years back where he talks about growing up and milestones in his life. Mixed in are songs from different eras of his career. He starts by saying that he, Mr. Born To Run, Mr. Thunder Road...has to get out and see the world.....now lives 10 minutes from where he grew up in Jersey. A more grounded and humble superstar is hard to find.
Hope you'll consider reacting to the studio version of "Jungleland". Clarence Clemons delivers one of the greatest moments in the history of rock & roll with a saxophone solo for the ages!

Frankie Goes To Hollywood did a great cover of this song. NO ONE does it like Bruce, obviously, but FGTH offered a very respectable effort. "Relax" is always worth a listen too (add it to your one hit wonders list?) May I say that "wrap your legs 'round these velvet rims and strap your hands 'cross my engines" is among the most brutally hot lyrics ever? I think TRex is the other band who has come close to this kind of raw sensuality in music. If you haven't hit TRex yet....consider them please.
Bruce's voice indeed is not the best sounding thing, but definitely his lyrics are usually very meaningful and his singing is filled with passion -- and it's infectious. This live YT version (seen it before a number of times) is very true to the studio version as far as tempo, mix, energy, etc... I'd prefer it if the video was all from the same concert but some of the images are pretty fun.

Bruce’s vocal is perfect for his songs.
Almost like he wrote them
His shows are amazing..over 3 hours long and he has the pedal to the metal the whole tume.
I remember when the sax player clarance died. Bruce quit for awhile. They had been together for years and his death was very difficult for Bruce
