His guitarist played Silvio Dante in The Sopranos. Bruce is one of the best live shows I've been to. Played 3 hours straight in his 70's and didn't miss a note.
Born to run was released in 1975 (the year I graduated high school) and this is the song/album that propelled Bruce into super stardom and made me fall in love with him and the E Street Band. I have seen probably 15 times and actually took my grandson to see him 2016 (when Tom Morello toured with) and he always plays this song. It is his signature song ! Love the Boss and loved ‘The Big Man’ Clarence Clemons RIP (the saxophone player) would love to see you two react to Jungleland (my all time fav!!)
Saw him in September. I assume if he did play it there would have been a riot. Yep, a riot from a crowd made up of 60 plus old Boomers. This song is from 1975.
Fun Fact: This was the first song Springsteen wrote for a studio production, rather than a live performance. After recording four versions (one with a female chorus) at the low-budget studio where he recorded his first two albums, he moved to a higher end studio to finish it, refusing to release it until it was just right.
"Born To Be Wild" is by STEPPENWOLF, which was featured in the movie "Easy Rider", from 1969. "Born To Run" is the unofficial/official state song of New Jersey. The BIG MAN with the Saxophone was Clarence Clemons (RIP) aka The Red Bank Rocker. Red Bank is a cool town in New Jersey. Bruce eventually married the redhead singer in the E Street band, Patti Scialfa.
I can't stress enough how huge Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band is...Bruce was everything to us in the 80s, the music appealed to everyone, young and old, male and female, he has something for everyone and we all adored him. next yall should react to 'I'm On Fire' it was huge, cool video, and it was the theme song for one of the power couples in one of the 80s soaps LOL✌🖤😎
1986 Melbourne Victoria Australia 🇦🇺 My very first concert when I was 19 was to see this man, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band with my brother. I had to go with someone so I paid for his ticket and dragged him along. Great night!!
New Jersey tried to make this their official State song back in the 80's, untill someone pointed out the line "It's a death trap, it's a suicide rap. You gotta get out while you're young.".. they quickly dropped the idea after that...
I'm a big BS fan. Last saw him in June this year in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. It was awesome! The guy is 75y old but still gives these 3h energetic shows and still sounds fantastic. He's called The Boss because in the early days he would collect the money from their gigs and paid the band members. Next suggestion for BS would be 'Jungleland' from the same album Born To Run (1975). It's an epic 10m song about broken dreams and love among of gang life in the big city. This is one of the favorites for many BS fans. And my second suggestion: Since August 2023 I turned into this emotional softy after seeing Emma Kok performing 'Voilá'. You did a great reaction on this performance and I wandering when you'll be coming back at her. Please watch her perform Dancing On The Stars, it's fantastic.
Concert footage is from the 80s but the song (and album), Born to Run, was released in the 70s. Iconic album that landed Bruce on the cover of Time and Newsweek, hailed as the future of rock.
Born to Run was released as the album's title track in 1975. I hear it as being about passion, freedom and escape. Bruce got the name The Boss because early on he would divie up the pay from shows among the band members. I think you guys would like the song Badlands 👍
Bruce went from playing small places to arenas. I preferred the smaller venues-2000 people or so. He would let you sit on a runway that ran parallel to the stage, and he’d come sit with you and play/sing. Born In The USA was his shot to arenas. I didn’t go see him much after that. Met him after one of his shows near SMU. He was about my height 5’5”. And extremely kind.
Another born song is Born Again the title track from Black Sabbath's 1982 album. This was the first album after Dio left as lead singer. It's also the only album to feature former Deep Purple singer Ian Gillan. There is song on the album called Stonehenge and they used that for their stage show. A full sized version of the monument. I remember people saying that it was hard to see the band from certain angles. This also could be the inspiration for the Stonehenge debacle in This is Spinal Tap. That movie was based on all kinds of road stories of bands over the years.
Saw him when I was 17, Darkness on the Edge of Town tour. 41/2 hours. Pure. Authentic. Rock . He expressed everything I was feeling. The hopes, the dreams, the knowledge that the world wasn’t fair. Thunder Road is the bomb. Greatest rock and roll song. To me. Expresses it all. He is The Boss, because he represents so many people and their lived experiences. Seen him 8 times, and the most recent (NY, 2024) ranks #3 on my list. He gets better with age because he’s real.
The Boss is one of the best live shows I've ever seen. He played over 3 hours with no opening act and no intermission. And he only played like 1/3 of greatest hits during those 3 hours. I love bands that don't just come out and play their hits live.
The nickname originally came from the guys in the band because he was the one that handed out the checks back in the 70s. Eventually, the media and fans picked up on it. He didn’t like it at first but eventually embraced it and now even plays into it during shows.
I was going out with this guy P. for a few years when we decided to take a trip to the Bahamas. The place we stayed had a golf cart we used to go to the local grocery store. It went maybe 4 mph, tops. One day we went to get groceries, and we were crawling home at 4mph, being passed by everyone. There was a long silence and then P. suddenly starts singing, at the top of his voice "THE HIGHWAY'S JAMMED WITH BROKEN HEROES ON A LAST CHANCE POWER DRIIIIVE!!!!" and it was so damn funny I married the guy. Great reaction, trashies! Loved it as usual. XO
Springsteen ain't soft rock. He's heartland rock. He used to shred on his guitar in concert in the late seventies. (See "Prove It All Night" circa 1980). But he mostly focused on songwriting. For a taste of his epic skill with words also check out "Jungleland" from his Born to Run album. Also check out "The Rising" the song he wrote about 9/11. Some naysayers complain about his politics in recent years, but his politics is pure American and always has been.
"Born Under a Bad Sign" by Albert King in the 1960s. I first heard Eric Clapton's cover version when he was with the band Cream. This song was from 1975 from his album of the same name...
The video was recorded on the Born in the USA tour in 1984/85, but the original was the title track to his 1975 album Born to Run. It almost became the NJ state song in 1980. His hometown currently has about 35,000 people in it. So, it's not big. His bassist and previous drummer both graduated from my high school. Two years before I was born. LOL RIP to The Big Man Clarence Clemons on sax and Danny Federici on organ here.
Steppenwolf did Born to be Wild, from easy rider. Born to run came out almost ten years before born in the USA. To me, he kind of fits the same category as bob seger and John Mellencamp, blue collar rock about everyday people. I feel that Bruce's best songs were from the 70s and 80s more. His more recent stuff seems more political than his older stuff.
@matthewdrake4385 Oh, I know the lyrics bud. Vietnam vets did get shyte on. What's political about that? It's just truth. And how the hell is that not part of his past stuff? The song was written for Nebraska in 1982. That's 42 damn years ago.
I love Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band!! Legend is right! I think that this song is up there will the greats as far as I'm concerned because it has it all... I would have loved to see them in concert.
He got the nickname because when they were starting out he'd negotiate on behalf of the band and get their pay and distribute it to his bandmates after a gig, and since he was in his early 20's they started calling him "Boss" as a joke and it stuck.
They call him the boss because that’s what the band called him. A journalist heard the band members calling him “the boss” used it in an article then everybody used it as his nickname.
If you want if you want something more of a full scope of different things Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band can do, I HIGHLY recommend watching him do “You Never Can Tell” and/or “Stayin’ Alive.”
How has Bruce Springsteen not been asked to play a Super Bowl halftime show??? Honestly, he’s one of only a handful of artist alive today, who could make a halftime show, epic, without the need of supporting artists (which has been the trend for the last several years). I know I’d wanna see it.
Born Too Late Bruce was not considered soft rock, Just was known as Rock music. In 1975 this Album captured an Audience that never faded away. You saw the SEA of Faces from a decade(s) later in the video content. The Boss Worked hard at his shows, giving his all with the E Streeters at his side, and that is how he became known as "THE BOSS Sadly you will never know the Magic of coming up, and Rocking loud in those 70's.
I love seeing legendary musicians in concert in their prime but almost always reactors should listen first to the studio versions of iconic songs because one they generally have far superior sound reproduction and two it is the way the song is meant to be initially heard.
I grew up in NJ. It's considered blasphemous to not love Bruce haha I was never the biggest fan to be honest but I really dig the song For You. Side note... the drummer was Max Weinberg who was the band leader on Conan O'Brien for years and Weinberg's son played drums for Slipknot for a bit as well
There are some singers that have good bands, there are also some singers that need good bands, imo this is one of the very rare occasions where a band, The E Street Band, is better than the singer.
@heathcliff8624 kind of...but the video is a compilation of live performance clips. Go watch a full live performance of the song such as London Calling th-cam.com/video/uNzT-c5neCk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=YeMqgXOz265l39tt and you will know what I mean.
Born To Run is Soft Rock? Go back and listen to 'Make It With You' by Bread and tell me that those two songs are in the same category. Not dissin' David Gates and Bread at all. They were soft rock at it's absolute finest. But Born to Run ain't no 'soft rock' IMO.
This was fun back in the day, but I outgrew him! Actually, I think performers should learn to keep their mouths shut about political matters, which is what makes his and others music not as much fun to listen to. People like Neil Young, RHCP, and Green Day. I love their music, but it's a downer to listen to it anymore. Thanks for listening to my rant.
RIP to Clarence Clemons, the big man absolutely ripping it up on the saxophone.
😢
His guitarist played Silvio Dante in The Sopranos. Bruce is one of the best live shows I've been to. Played 3 hours straight in his 70's and didn't miss a note.
I really liked the Lilyhammer series as well as The Sopranos.
@@Steffe Lilyhammer is so great.
And he still rocks out this hard at 75 years of age - his live shows are legendary, usually going on for around 3 hours, putting others to shame! 😁
I saw him in Oakland a few years back and he did three and a half hours. And he crowd surfed!
Born to run was released in 1975 (the year I graduated high school) and this is the song/album that propelled Bruce into super stardom and made me fall in love with him and the E Street Band. In about six months this song turns 50 years old. Still gets played at every show during the encores.

Straightforward rock n roll, neither hard nor soft. Backstreets and Jungle Land are a must, along with New York City Serenade and Streets of Fire.
What she said. ↖

I don't remember all of it, but I do remember when they played this song atcthe concert at Ullevi back in the day.

This is a song that had everyone in the bar singing out loud - no matter if you could carry a tune.

Born on the Bayou

Steppenwolf did Born To Be Wild!! In the movie Easy Rider!!🎵🎼🎶🤘🤘🤘

I always figured he was The Boss because there was the King of Pop, the Queen of Pop, and Prince; they needed a new term to indicate authority.

By far the best Springsteen album.
Maybe not uncle Jesse, but you did see Jay Weinberg’s dad onstage playing drums 😊
Born to be wild was by Steppenwolf
Another "Born" song is Born to be Alive by Patrick Hernandez, which is very different from Bruce's and Steppenwolf's songs.
80s? Nope. Right smack dab in the middle of the 70s...1975.
This is all rock, no soft! 😂 🤘

This is considered classic rock and how dare you put Bruce in the same category as Wham. Jungleland is another great Bruce song
Please to Bruce Springsteen and Tom Morello!
React to his song The River 👌
Soft rock? Soft rock?!
When Bruce was very cool.
