my onan 5000 is doing the same thing. it's at Cummings and 1200$ later they still can't fix . They say must be internal and makes low oil pressure kick in.
Billy Shafer hi bill I have a 1994 6500lp. It stalls with overloading and then I can't get it started again. It always cranks five seconds unless I use some starting fluid in the air intake. When it is hot I sometimes can stRt it by hand controlling the Thottle and choke. Any thoughts? Michael BC Canada
@@1papapan Need your full model and serial number. So I will know what spec you have. Have you checked the vent on the fuel system. Bugs love to use them as a nest. Cuts down the fuel flow and can really cause problems. What brand of plugs are you using. I no longer trust Champion. I have had to many fail. I am also on the Smokstak. Come on over plenty of guys willing to help and it is free. You can get manuals and advice. Ask any question you need to.

@@1papapan I fully understand the space problem. I use to have customers get mad at me. Because I took too long. Until I showed them why. It is not easy but yes you can use a spark plug socket. If you follow the LP line to the generator. You should find a round object in the line. That is the regulator. You may have to go under and come at it from the back. You should be able to see the vent. Most of the time it is a small brass looking fitting. With a screen in it. Sad part is you may have to pull the unit to get to anything. SmokStak is a collection of places where people come to help. All you need to join is your name. I think if you want to be a full member it is $20.00 dollars a year. We do have a few rules. Give honest answers and no insulting anyone. You can be kicked off very fast for not doing so. You are free to ask any question you need to. If you see a way to do something better. I got so tired of putting money in these junk Onan generators I went and bought me a Harbor Freight 3500 watt inverter generator for 699, super quiet sips gas and I'll never have any problems again that onan is a piece of s***
sounds like your fuel filter is cloged or your fuel pump is getting hot carburator sounds like it can use a cleaning out also youtube shows you how to do all three its one of the three.you can also look up how to test a onan rv generator fuel pump on utube.
we have a onan mobilegenset with 400 hours on it. it runs for about 20 minutes then gets hot cuts off. Power house repair checked it out and can not locate problem. it shows a code 35 everything has been checked and changed but problem still there.
So, What Did You Do ? I Recommend, Sea Foam Spray cleaner and spray it intoi the Carb Bowl...Let it sit for 3 hours, and Then restart it...Worked for me !

Set the choke and clean the plugs. Also needs to be run more often. To keep the carb clean. I am an Onan tech since 1980

Why don't they just put Honda units in there. Or better yet why doesn't Onan build a better unit?
our generator runs good for 5 minutes then a pulsating noise comes out of it. It sounds like a uga noise. New gas is in it what could be the problem.
You need to prime the generator. Hold the stop button for 30 seconds then start it. Read the manual!
DOES THE Unit have solid state ignition unit? sounds like the old Briggs and Stratton problem, ign. get hot and quits.

Carol Seymour mine was doing that and all it was was the oil pressure sending unit. Behind sheet metal by the oil filter.

it's not running on both cyc properly look at the movement ! sounds like the gov is working hard to keep it running .

Try changing spark plugs.If this works then spark generation system maybe weak.

generator starts an as soon as I take me finger off switch it dies
