so good to see mk2 fiesta still working would love to have drive of this type of car so see how it use to be on cvt box i got mk8 auto 1.0 now very smooth quiet etc but i do still have desire for nostalgia
It's quite healthy for the engine to go wot for some time in old carbureted engines, carbon builds up on the valves and pistons and wide open throttle is good to loosen it up, the engine should always be warm though, i can never do a full speed run with my 3.0 Capri as i would be doing twice the speed limit...
I agree, I always give the fiesta a good blast now and again and as she only has 22k on the clock its hardly putting her under any strain. I like to drive the car as the manufacturers intended. Oh and it was warm as I had been out for a drive about 30 minutes earlier but she always needs a bit of choke from rest. Thanks for your interest and enjoy your Capri!
Its probably the first time ive heard a Fiesta MK2 CVT.Heard many MK3/4 CVT Fiesta's. Its the same gearbox that was also in the Fiat Uno MK1 but they called it Selecta.
@@edddenby9745 There isn't many surviving CTX Fiesta's left now as alot of them got converted to manual or scrapped. I drove an E reg 1.1 Ghia CTX last year.
Cal B its just clocked 50k today on the way home from work it has a little rot but I've just given the body a coat of old unused engine oil. Its a tight little car same age as yours but in galaxy blue. I'll get a video up of it asap. I'm not sure how to regulate the choke yet but That will take time.
Have you got the hang of the choke yet? Not sure how old you are but I suspect anyone who learned to drive in the last 20 years may never have encountered one 😂 Mine needs full to start then push it in once I am on the move unless I need to pull up when the engine is still cold.
@@calumbaxter9946 I struggle with the gearbox on cold damp morning's. Its coughs and splutters up to work in a morning but it's brilliant I remembered them as bangers when I were a kid in the 90s
I guess it is a matter of preference. The automatic was never very popular as the throttle has a stiff action which makes it jerky in traffic if you’re not used to it. The Fiat Uno Selecta had the same issue. On the motorway however this thing flies along as it revs much lower in the overdrive top than a manual.
The revs seems to be alot lower at motorway speeds than the 4 speed manual models. We once had an old Micra with a CVT in it and always loved the sound it made when slowing down.
There actually surprisingly nippy mine beat will accelerate to 30 in 3 seconds my mate has a finesse with a 5 speed manual and that's a cracking little motor. I bought my CTX on a whim and it grew on me

love to see more of this car!
Thats lovely. My dad had one of those as his first car all though it wasn't a CTX but it was definitely a 1.1 L MK2 (It was a manual tho)
This was my first car at aged 18. Loved it.
Ok for around town bit the screaming away on dual carriage ways could be wearing.
Gotta love that CVT whine
Passengers think mine is supercharged when she is at full chat
Beats old Variomatics on Volvo 340's which makes the engine work so hard just to get it going and build up speed. CTX's are more relaxed.
I liked the dash that had Fiesta stamped on the passenger side. I think it was only Popular Plus's that had it.
Haven’t seen one of these in a long time, the price is only going to appreciate!
Hope so as I might sell it soon!
There isn't many Fiesta's like this in mint condition. Fiesta mk2's are collectors cars now. I used to see tonnes of them back in the 90's.
I believe there is only 3/4 CTX mk2s left on the UK roads
The car is in Cornwall at the moment but I will do another next weekend

not so many mk3 :/ but i agree for the mk4
i have a fiesta mk3 1.3 CLX CTX "Fiestamatic" but i have some issues with it :(
There used to be a mk3 Ford Fiesta 1.3L A near where i live. The revs just stayed the same whilst the speed built up.
@@fiestamatic5736 does anyone struggle with there's in wet weather I find my mk2 CTX can be a bit of a cow gearbox wise when its cold and wet

Picking mine up tomorrow 1.1 CTX l 1987 north of England
How did it go?

I’m restoring one with my step-grandad it’s bein sitting for years and when I go Over I think when the hell is that car gonna be fixed
Good luck with that Phoenix! Hope you do finish it.
How durable is this late 80s or early 90s CVT gearbox? Does it need special transmission fluid instead of ATF?
Was the transmission one continuous gear or were there levels to it?
20yrs it’s bein Sittings

Not a lot of difference accept fule economy and acceleration
@@edddenby9745 Have you got use to its stiff throttle?
Was this the auto box that can't reverse up hills?
Apparently so but mine doesn't have that problem and will happily reverse up a steep incline! Must have a good box.
Mines same no problems what so ever
Auto in a fiesta, not my cup of tea mate, each their own 👍
I almost went for an auto Fiesta mk2 but i was put off by it's stiff throttle and didn't want an autobox packing up on me as rebuilds are expensive.

Is yours a Spanish or German built one?
I honestly don’t have a clue,
The VIN plate on the slam panel tells you where it was built.
Mines italion
Is it a smooth auto gearbox?
I mean, it's a CVT... so it doesn't have gears. It's probably pretty smooth, but noisy.
You can actually drive them in L as well can't you?
Yes it makes no difference other than it stops the gearbox engaging overdrive, so the top speed is the same in either.
