AUSTIN 2200 “Landcrab” thrash at Coventry Motofest 2018
มุมมอง 4.4K3 ปีที่แล้ว
A thrash around the track in my friend’s Austin 2200 Landcrab. Now the car was not in the best of health to start with but gave its all! The Austin has a 2.2 litre 6 cylinder OHC engine with had (I think) 110bhp when new but I think we were missing at least 50 of those at the start and maybe lost a further 20 going around the track 🤣
Moulinex type 623 electric carving knife stripdown
มุมมอง 2523 ปีที่แล้ว
Stripdown of a French made Moulinex electric carving knife. The on/off button had stuck so I repaired it and re-greased the gears. I also replaced the 2 pin plug for a UK 3 pin. The knife belongs to my mum, purchased when we lived in Belgium and is 40 years old. A well made and well designed knife that still works well unlike today’s cheap and low quality electrical products.
Baxi patent outside ashbox fire.
มุมมอง 1.3K3 ปีที่แล้ว
A quick look at a Baxi fireplace and ashbox. This was installed in my parent’s house when it was built in 1961. The ashbox is located in the basement garage under the sitting room and the ash falls down a chute. It is well designed and easy to clean out. The grate also has an air vent which can be opened or closed. I forgot to take a video of the intake pipe which is located in the ceiling of t...
BELL (British Electric Lamps Ltd) vintage frosted twisted olive pink tip light bulb demonstration.
มุมมอง 263 ปีที่แล้ว
Rare twisted olive candle shaped frosted pink tip light bulbs/lamps from British manufacturer Bell. They have the small bayonet fitting (SBC) and are rated at 60w and 240/250v. They were purchased in the 1970’s and are still in use, but we are down to one spare lamp out of 9 purchased. They are beautifully made and emit a warm glow. Currently fitted to a chandelier my parents bought in 1988.

Rare hexagon shaped frosted Gothic light bulbs/lamps from the British manufacturer Bell. They have the small bayonet fitting (SBC) and are rated at 60w and 240/250v. I think they date from the 60s/70s. I bought this set of 14 new old stock ones years ago and use a couple in some bedroom light fittings. Beautifully made and an interesting design. The wall light fittings date from 1985 and purcha...
Austin Maestro Vanden Plas 1.6 automatic driving.

Some clips of my 1985 Austin Maestro Vanden Plas being driven on the beach at Weston Super Mare by a friend, and then some road driving by myself including full acceleration, kickdown and being cut up by a Mercedes 😂.
Ford Fiesta Mk2 winter snow drive on Uniroyal MS Plus 6 winter tyres.
มุมมอง 2.9K6 ปีที่แล้ว
A cold late February 2018 drive in my Ford Fiesta 1.1 automatic which has a set of Uniroyal MS Plus 6 winter tyres fitted. Not once did I get stuck and the car was like a little mountain goat going through drifts of snow. From the B4494 Wantage road through Farnborough towards West Ilsley in Berkshire.
AUSTIN MAESTRO 1.6 Vanden Plas talking dash.

My new toy, a 1985 Austin Maestro 1.6 Vanden Plas automatic. Has the bizarre talking digital dash. Car hasn’t been on the road for many years but is in good condition and low mileage.

A drive through Port Isaac in a Vauxhall Astra convertible
มุมมอง 4.6K8 ปีที่แล้ว
A drive through Port Isaac in Cornwall. Starting from the junction with Port Quin road, down Church Hill, through the town and back up Fore street. The car is my 1998 Vauxhall Astra 1.6i automatic convertible. We drove down on a quiet Sunday afternoon in November. This route is not really recommended during the tourist season for obvious reasons.

How durable is this late 80s or early 90s CVT gearbox? Does it need special transmission fluid instead of ATF?
My auntie had a gold one. It was so futuristic having it tell me to fasten my seatbelt. And the digital Speedo too. People have to realise this was released whilst we were all watching knight rider so this was like Kitt for the public.
Ok for around town bit the screaming away on dual carriage ways could be wearing.
No canal barge that. In its day it had good handling, a great engine, superb ride and loads of space. If Issigonis was kept away from the styling, who knows.
Amazing. Completely digital dash with voice synthesis and the odometer is analogue.
Much better than the stinking flicker fest LED garbage were dished up today.
My Nan owns one. We loaned it off her to use it at Christmas time to carve the bird and it’s so much more powerful than our crappy and wimpy Cookworks china pride garbage. Ours is a UK model with a 3 pin plug with no safety shield on it. 1 thing though it’s very loud and I actually was scared of it when I was younger. Lovely vintage knife with a strong brushed motor & is just a beast when cutting up stuff.
Reminds me of the ‘Maxi Power’ sketch in League of gentleman’ “Let’s solve some crime”
The last Austin was built in 1988- The MONTEGO was the LAST new model under the austin marque.
I had one in about 1986 not a great car but kept it for 2 years went to a Ford orion
beautiful! Thanks for the ride!
Featuring the voice of Nicolette McKenzie (who doesn't sound quite so robotic in real life).
The mg maestro was the first car I ever heard with a seat belt warning. In a ladies voice obviously.
bx electronik nie gadał
"Dave......stop."
They should have given the computer an optional Mickey Mouse voice.
The car had Micky Mouse design and build quality.
The 80's. That time cars from everywhere talked
So was the talking dash for people with vision impairment? You’d be able to see all of the gauges if they’d have fitted it with a square steering wheel.
No, speech synthesis was all the rage at the time. The brand new Co-op superstore where I lived had “talking tills” when it first opened. The till would announce each item as it was scanned. Kids loved them but they were unreliable and completely pointless. Predictably, they didn’t last long.
8:02 pretty obvious that was gonna happen 🙄
Nice car! I quite like the panda. Good video!
My sister had it as a courtesy car whilst her 4x4 Cross was in for repair. Mum has a basic 1.2. Great cars I agree.
Was the transmission one continuous gear or were there levels to it?
That is most surreal tearing around a public road turned into a track! Love the 2200 growl. Great fun.
Great! I had a Maestro. Quite liked it too.
My Dad had the MG1600 which if i ragged it round a sharp corner would say Low Oil Pressure!
Love the combination of "futuristic" talking digital dash and gentleman's club wooden door cappings.
I remember a 'rally' version that managed 0-60 in ten seconds.
That voice synthesiser module makes me think back to an Intellivision game called B17 Bomber… or should I say Beeee seventeeeen booomm-berrr. 😂
These cars look a bit grampy like but the MG turbo was bloody fast.
What happened to it at the end?
It broke down but we fixed it and got home!
What's with the crappy speak and spell voice? 🤣🤣🤣 Didn't Renault have a 11 model with digital dash and voice back then as well called the TXE Electronic when it was all the rage...
Thats lovely. My dad had one of those as his first car all though it wasn't a CTX but it was definitely a 1.1 L MK2 (It was a manual tho)
Looks a bit a dull inside though
10 examples left on road now I wish I'd kept mine,
wood and electrical mirrors and voice giude . nothing of this hase small modern cars .
I had one of these VDP spec maestro in the same colour, A900 RSR Sunroof leaked, dashboard rattled & electronic choke was a joke. It rusted badly round the wheel arches like all BL cars of that era. How has this one lasted so well? Garaged and waxed regularly? Would love to drive this one.
I agree with most of those points, except oddly the automatic choke on mine works perfectly but I did replace the crappy thin BL vacuum hoses with thick silicone ones that don’t leak. And mine had been off the road for 15 years before I got it, and before that the first family had garaged it all its life. It has only done 39K..
Texas Instruments made the chips for these and other talking cars. Remember Speak and Spell?
I learned to drive in my dads VDP. 30 years ago. Clutch was a nightmare and every time I stalled the thing the lady would announce “warning. low oil pressure”!
Still more bearable than Renault 25 and 11 Eletronic with that Charles de Gaulle voice and the alarm 'Les fonctions moteur!'
Would love to hear those talking too!
My Friends dad had one of these brand spanking new back in the later 80's .. My mate wanted me to see it and on the way to his house it's all he talked about. 'The Talking Maestro'. He actually compared it to KITT from Knight Rider... His dad was already in it with one of their neighbours when we arrived at his house. We got in. His dad played through the buttons. "So what do you think?" I was asked...... Was that it?! I exclaimed. I realised it was best I didn't make any sudden moves from that moment on.
That trim. The real wood interior goes nicely with real disappointment with the fact that it's still just a Maestro.
female Steven Hawking / Knight Rider dashboard haha
That car is rare as now. I hope you look after it.
I've got Uniroyal winters on my '87 'E' Granada Scorpio. I too was out in this deep snow in March 2018. It got through snow drifts and up steep hills. I went past a number of much newer cars that were just spinning away. 😆 I'm sure this Fiesta would have been even better as mine isn't the 4x4 Granada.
I love how Austin-Rover fitted plush seating, tons of wooden inlay and a digital dash, but kept the cheapest, nastiest plastic fittings and switchgear they could find.
I agree with you! The seat fabric is fine quality as are the wood veneers, but some of the plastics are awful. Some are so thin you can see light through them 😂 and the whole dash rattles and shakes. I have tried to improve things with foam strips etc....
I think that’s because they used the same parts as the basic models, they weren’t going to manufacture different higher quality parts for the air vents etc.
To be fair it was one of the first bits of the car to be updated as the model aged.
Great video mate keep up the good work
Thanks! I did wonder if anyone would be interested in old light bulbs as I am 😂
@@calumbaxter9946 I personally like old Edison style bulbs. We actually have one in our room over the bed
Wow. My gran had one of these and that speaking woman dashboard was the coolest thing ever. Hours of fun😀
Quite modern for a car of that age
Sounds like my 2017 SEAT Leon "Voice Command" 😂
Austin Maestro was first car with speaking Dashboard or not ?
Morris and Austin, Brilliant Collectible Vehicles
Has the same stalks as my 1984 Austin Metro had. Thank you.
