    After trying this myself, unless you have ADEQUATE (according to your power needs) spare pc power supplies just lying around to use save yourself a HEAP of trouble and order a PowerMax or similar "RV power converter" that is purpose-built for converting 120 VAC to 12 VDC. They come with an American standard 3-prong plug and the same type of set screw connectors you see on the amp in the video for connecting the power cables. It's the closest thing to plug-and-play you're going to find for this type of application. A 45-amp model that should be sufficient for most systems currently runs $112 on Amazon. I bought the 100 amp model and have used it to power a 4-channel amp to feed two 6x9s and a dual voice coil mini sub, the head unit, and have plenty of room to expand or upgrade in the future. I'm still building the box but the end game is a portable sound system to travel with my portable projector.

    For power supply, you can use a car battery with a battery tender so you always have a full battery charge. The power supply taken from PC's or other sources other than car batteries need to be cautious with because home electric is 120V AC and mobile electronics is 12V DC.

    I've been looking around online for a good power supply to do this with the PC psu thing might be ok but I don't think it's good enough for maximum output due to low amperage. I found a 12v 100 amp power supply on Amazon for like 177 I think something like that would be better. My dad has a setup in his garage he's using a shuriken battery that I had and a battery charger/jumper and its pretty good but there still is power loss at high volume I want something that's going to be good at high volume.

    Don't forget people, if you running an amp that has like six 40Amp fuses for example, you won't be able to power it from a computer power supply unless it delivers 240 amps or more, and the gauge of the wires are like 0 gauge. Running a small amp that has a single 20Amp fuse or something like that, then yes a computer power supply would be ok.

    • @brandonyoung156
      @brandonyoung156 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, a PSU would have capacitors that hold a charge for awhile. After disconnecting main power, wait about ten minutes and then test the voltage before starting work. If you're doing this type of work you should be using a multimeter. You'll want to use a jumper to make sure you have a good test (don't try sticking the tester directly into the "hole" on the PSU connector because it probably won't reach where it needs to go). Under 50VAC is considered "touch safe" by OSHA but you might not like getting zapped by 50VAC. If your curious what it might feel like, go out and touch your doorbell wires because those should be 1/2-1/5 of what 50VAC feels like but you can find out exactly by checking your transformer label before trying it.

  • @djsoundzentertainment42

    Why did you use a jumper from the 12V+ to the remote? Why not just use another yellow wire from the power supply to power the remote turn on?

    • @rmblwgn
      @rmblwgn 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There's a good reason why he didn't do that he needs all of the 12 V the power supply has to go to 12v input on the amp. the amp only needs a tiny bit of power not 40 amps. he should've used all of the yellows in the positive and all the blacks in the negative which is a mistake use everything the power supply has to avoid burning up the PSU

      @junaidgt90 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sagerr735 hi.
      The video is about 4 channels Amp and you requirement is the same.
      To connect sub, you would do a bridged connection by connecting to any 2 channels; you will see it will be labelled as BRIDGED mode.
      Example channels 1&2 for left right speakers and channels 3&4 used in bridged mode for your sub.
      ALSO when using a PC power supply at home you will get around 11.9 volts. Make sure to dial your Gains right. Definitely dialed much lower than you would do in car with 13.9+ DC volts. I always use a 30$ Digital Oscilloscope when moving my setups between car and home.
      There are several videos showing how to set gains and avoid CLIPPING.

    Check dig. Nice video bub, but do you mind mind if I throw you a tip? Or 3 maybe? Just the tip I promise this time! 🤭🤫🐿️
    All jokes aside I was light- weight disappointed after viewing. I assure you that the reason isn't because of you so much as it is those who taught you how to teach. You and a mass majority were conditioned that way for a reason. It keeps the student dependent. Knowledge truly is power my friend! It seems that the average "go to" curriculum and way to teach is and has been pretty much all memorization. It has taken the place of cognitive thinking and leaves the student handicapped so to speak not being able to problem solve when something isn't working. It can even be deadly. Variables are always a factor and sometimes the way they showed us doesn't work... Right?? Then what? If we only were taught HOW it works. Things like understanding the difference between AC and DC current. Ergo the reason one must use a power supply from lets say... A cpu. It acts as a transformer converting AC current (household electric) into DC current (batteries) as well as a 12v power source to safely and successfully power the car amplifier enought so that our speakers emmit the sound we desire. Matching wattage and oHMs and all that is a lesson for another day. all of that is very critical information!
    I'm done busting your balls bub...
    You can show a man to fish ( how to bring the hooptie into the home) and he eats for a day (bumps for a little bit)
    Teach a man how to fish ( how it works in order to maintain it ) he will eat for a lifetime! ( Ain't gotta call your non informative ass when something ain't working right ) 🤣😂
    THE POWER IS YOURRRRRRSSSS!🐿️
