CAR STEREO turned GARAGE SOUND SYSTEM with an ATX POWER SUPPLY (Garage Project #1)

- In this video, I share the process that I took in assembling my garage sound system! I took an assortment of different audio equipment which were primarily designed for home and automotive applications simply because these components were already at my disposal. The power supply functioned as the component that powered everything. Please note that while this may not be the best sounding system out there, it definitely works for me and I assembled it for almost no money. For those of you curious on the major components used, I have listed them below.

You never show how you wire the amp that’s what I wants to know
Sorry about that man, this video was mostly about how to get the power supply to work with a car sound system. But anyway, the amp gets audio data from the "RCA" cables with go from the amp to the radio. The radio also has a small wire that goes to the amp to tell it to "power on" (I added a switch for convenience). Then the amp gets power from the big yellow and black cables that I made by joining a bunch of cables together. That's really all it is. Oh and then there's cables going from the amp to the sub.

Great question! It sounds better than the sound bar I have at home but probably not as good as an actual home sound system.

That's awesome! I have a stereo/sub in my garage, but it's my old setup from in the house, LOL. I am a systems admin by trade, so I have a stash of PS's.

Did the car stereo heat up when you wired it up with the atx psu power supply?
Nope. Runs great
No fuse for the amp or does the powersupply have built in overload? Like a car would have fuse from battery to amp
Most power supplies have overload protection so a fuse from the psu to the amp is not required. I would only add one if you are using a super old power supply that does have overload protection.
Hey that's a great question! If you have a quality power supply, it should have overload protection built in. Adding a fuse is not required in that case but redundancy is not a bad idea. Better to be safe than sorry. If I were to do this over again, I probably would have added one. I didn't because I just pieced it together with stuff I already had. Thanks for watching!

I'm sorry the radio turns on but then the amplifier turns on then off I was thinking maybe the ground wire just thinks it's not getting a good ground but the radio does work
@@mineprixelz9697 sounds like it might be going into protect mode. Try searching TH-cam for protect mode for your specific amp. My amp is super old so it doesn't have as many safety features as it probably should. Lol
@@mineprixelz9697 you could also try cleaning the terminals and then rewiring the amp. Good luck man!
