People need to defocus their brains from seeing deer to seeing any movement,no matter how small. Any tiny thing that moves immediately gets my attention.

Unfortunately I’m older and becoming less mobile. Also I hunt on a deer lease with 25 other families that turn the camp into a KOA campground with generators running, dogs barking and children hollering 24/7 especially the opening week of gun season. I have build two primary box stands in my designated locations to hunt and I see deer every year. I have harvested two nice mature bucks but it was back in 2015 and 2017 when I was new to my sites. I normally am able to harvest at least two deer 🦌 each year by maintaining my sites thought the deer are only two-three year olds. It’s meat in the freezer but no real trophies. I’ve discovered that my sites are fortunately on both sides of a bedding area and with winds from two different directions allow some versatility. Early season with a crossbow has become my best opportunity to see more and better deer because there are less hunters present during that part of the hunting season. We are allowed to hunt over bait in my state and that’s a blessing because whether I shoot the deer 🦌 or not I’m able to see more deer and it also helps me build and develop a herd in my area through food plots and supplements which allow me to see more deer year after year.

25 families for one lease? Wow that’s crowded.

Agreed, I think to many hunters for years go to the killing stand because 15 years ago uncle Bob shot 10 point there but a deer hasn't been killed there since 🤔 I have stands in funnels and travel corridors but I only hunt them once in a while if the wind is right, I can sneak in and out without pushing any deer. But I have stands all over for different conditions and winds and I'll also just take a stool and sit in a spot for the morning or evening to see what's happening in the area. I move around all season and get at least 1 mature buck a year sometimes 2. But I always see deer and could tag out if I want but I'm after mature bucks, I'll shoot a couple of does late season for the freezer but don't shoot them early because I don't want to ruin a good spot by tromping all over looking for a doe. Good video

Ive deer hunted for round 13years heres my say. I hunt public and private land. More private than public when are lucky enough to have permission on a place. Dont have a 4 wheeler . Any movement of anything is done by manpower. I was taught to learn your land . Learn where the oaks are and what ones deer like the most. Hunted clear cuts, hardwoods ,mixed woods, creekbottms, ridge tops, mountain, and swamps. I was taught to work hard in the off season so just maybe you could see a deer that season. I went my first 5 or 6 seasons hunting 2-4x a week without ever seeing a deer. Noone else around did either. Since killing my first ive had good seasons and bad . Some amazing like afew years ago i bet i saw 8 or 10 that year. When i say see any deer im including the ones you spoke. Had some seasons where was luckily enough to take up to 3 deer in 1 season. I hunt with the enjoyment of being in the woods and not seeing a deer dosent make a hunt bad,it makes it normal. I dont hunt expecting to see deer or i would have quit a long time ago. Ive taken about 10 total in 13 years 2 seasons i shot 3. All the others were 1 per season and a good chance were the only ones seen that season.

My problem is, I’m new to hunting. I hunted growing up in the Midwest but not deer. We mostly fished. Hunted squirrel or rabbit. Now living in the PNW the new issue is the Colombian Blacktail. So while I’m devoting myself to hunting which is what I always wanted to do, the first thing I’m learning is to hunt the Blacktail. I have a few issues, I don’t find enough info about the Colombian Blacktail, I work so even if I get an hour to an hour and a half I go to the woods. I can only give myself weekends to do extensive hunting. I’m finding more tips and info on Whitetail, and little on Blacktail. Last season all I seen were Doe, the GMUs I was in here in Washington State don’t allow harvesting of Doe. I feel like I’m doing more learning and searching than actually hunting. I don’t want to give up. I want to try and remember what I learned. With all the info I learned on whitetail I tried applying that to Blacktail and only came up with all their signs but not them. They truly are the ghosts of the PNW.

@@InformedOutdoors lol it's all good, I look the same way. This time of year, no sun and sitting in the wind will do it. I call it the "seasoned hunter tan". God bless and take care, keep putting out great content!

I’d say they’ve got good bedding and browse all in the area, and probably a good pinch point. Makes hunting much easier I’m sure.

What if you don’t have places to go only public lands?

    • @InformedOutdoors

Scouting is the most important part of public land hunting. Once the season closes start going out there and looking for the trails. This will help you learn where the deer are during the season, and you don't have to worry about bumping them.

That's great & wonderful if you can hunt wherever the hell you wanna hunt. A lot of us have access to ONE PIECE of private land....AND THAT'S IT!!!!!! Yes, there may be public land available, but more often than not, public land is a FARGIN' ZOO!!! I know you know what I'm talkin' about, or you wouldn't be saying some of the things you're saying.
