    It is so nice to see a man who's head is not inflated about his position and is concerned about the job and the people who are also involved. Congrats to you and Giv on having a son.

    The destinations of this boat sound like a lot of fun and being able to attend all of the America's Cup races is simply outstanding. Can fully understand why you accepted this position. It sounds like the ideal job, spend time at sea, also able to spend time at home, visit other places, stay there as long as the owner wants, who would not want to do that ?
    Hope you will film all the locations, so we can also see where to go next 😀

    I agree with you on practicality. If I ever win the lottery, lol, I wouldn't want an all gliter and gold yacht. Comfort, range and sturdiness would definitely be my preference. Not just for me and guests but also for the crew. I don't think I'd be able to enjoy my time aboard if the crew weren't having just as much fun as I was.

    You remind me of that old poem, Sea Fever
    I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
    And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by;
    And the wheel’s kick and the wind’s song and the white sail’s shaking,
    And a grey mist on the sea’s face, and a grey dawn breaking.

    I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
    Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
    And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
    And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

    I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
    To the gull’s way and the whale’s way where the wind’s like a whetted knife;
    And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
    And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over.

    Most interesting - thank you, Tristan.
    Total of 4 crew, with only two qualified bridge watchkeepers (one of whom doubles as the engineer) does seem undermanned. Long voyages on 6-on, 6-off , single-handed watches is tough and would surely exceed safe manning rules on a commercial vessel and breach the commercial requirement for a lookout in poor visibility and darkness. Two interior staff, one of whom is the cook, to cope with eight passengers plus four crew must be hard work, too. No deckhands to run tenders, clean on deck, help interior with housekeeping service etc. either. No wonder you'd like a fifth crewmember - perhaps you could enlist the owner!

    • @D1SC0RDANT

      You're right 6 on 6 off long time sounds tuff, except I wonder if it is comparable to 6 on 6 off on a general cargo vessels with 13 crew during loading times

    This is a captain with character who puts the really important things in life above the salary or the fame of a ship!
    Aluminium would also have been my preferred material, but at the time it was unaffordable for me, and I couldn't weld aluminium myself, so I decided to build a steel motor yacht.
    I also really like this all-round ship, even if to some it looks less like a luxury yacht than the AWOL.

    You should talk to the owner about going up the St. Lawrence Seaway to Thunder Bay and Duluth! Then head to Chicago. I think you would enjoy your time on the fresh water, that being said sailing on Lake Superior is very different than sailing on the ocean. The waves can get very high however they are much closer together than on the ocean. If your owner ever decides to go to Thunder Bay then I would definitely want to meet you in person! Thanks for the great videos.

    I knew AWOL wasn’t considered a true blue water boat which is the reason she was transported across the ocean. I was more curious why you had chosen such a smaller boat because I completely understand why you took a more capable boat but there are plenty larger blue water boats. But you answered my question.

    I never understood why everyone said the Espiritu Santo was a step down. Bigger doesn't always mean better! AWOL had an amazing crew, but as a vessel she was a wedding-cake yacht... she needed a whole support industry just to get from one island to the next in protected waters. This lady is a BOAT. And a beauty.

    Depending on how many in the owners party and if they are full on during their cruise, 4 crew including yourself is, I would suggest, pretty tight in terms of manpower. Are you Captain/Engineer? Chef/Stewardess maybe, but if you have a boat with provision for 8 guests, That is a huge amount of work even if everyone is doubling. The boat needs cleaning all the time, the interior needs the same attention, cabins, laundry, moving, docking, provisioning etc. I worked as Chef for a long time, starting on 35m and finishing on a 68m and 20 crew weren't enough just for a family without charters. Hours of rest and all that fiction!!

    It is this working type content that brought me to this channel in the first place. Glad it is starting again. So, smaller wheelhouse and cabins on AWOL, like a job really. But sounds like this boat is more a lifestyle with the extra space. I recently saw a YT on Elon Musk saying that there will never be a superyacht that will be 'greeen' as the area available for the solar panels needed is not available. Hydrogen power on a yacht that is surrounded by seawater that is chock full of a hydrogen source, now that really is an interesting proposition.
