I just got my first bike a Yamaha v-star classic 1100 and i know nothing about doing any work on my bike but i love learning and I love to fix things myself. So thanks for sharing this and including the filter number and type of oil. Saved me soo much time. All i knew was i got lucky having a relocation kit. Lol One question what tool to use to loosen the filter? I definitely will be watching more videos lord knows i know nothing but how to hold the bike up and go but im willing to learn lol. You got any videos on how to set up lights around the bike or installation of some sort of sound system?
That's great your working on it yourself. As for the filter I use a set of large channellock pliers to remove filter. Sorry I don't have any vids on lighting or sound system.
That's a good question, I have to look at that, but if your oil level is in the middle of the sight glass when bike is off and on level ground your good.
nice job just picked up 02 1100 v star first thing on list is oil relocation kit! i see you have your bell mounted in the same spot as me. do you ever get any questions regarding it? cheers!
Nice, congrats on you new bike man. Just got mine a couple of months ago, awesome bike! I haven't had anyone comment on it, but I feel it has done it's work a few times already. That Oil filter kit is the best man, makes an otherwise big job into a piece of cake. Cheers!
Hey Antoni It's a trailer hitch cover that I modified to fit the bike and I painted it black. If you check out channel there is a video there showing how I did it. What’s with Yamaha and oil filters in crazy spots. My apex you gotta remove air box and battery plus battery holder oh and headlight. Phazer you have to strip the whole front fairings off and if your hands are small enough you can get it. Waverunner if you remember where it is you can jam and I mean jam your hands against the hull and feel where it is and get it out but not before dumping a few ccs of oil all over the hull and the Kodiak if it’s not stick on its not too bad but if you gotta get a wrench on it you gotta tear the fuel tank off unless you want to spend the $30 on the nice k&n one that has the nut welded to the end. So it’s pretty clear Yamaha hates you doing oil changes I guess.
I just did a oil change on this bike with the relocation kit and I put in the amount that the manual says 3.17 quarts but it seems like the oil side gauge is full… How much oil do you exactly put in?
@@bernbo Thanks for getting back to me so fast… The strange thing is 3.17 quarts is 3 quarts and 5 1/2 ounces… 3.1 L is 3 quarts and 8.96 ounces… So it would seem that I have not enough in there? I did run the bike and let it warm up so the oil would go through the engine and then I let it sit and then I put it level and it looks like the whole site gauge is full doesn’t make any sense I certainly don’t think with 3 quarts in 5 1/2 ounces I’ve overfilled it… I’ll have to check it tomorrow and tip the bike the other way maybe it’s just needs to settle, do you normally just fill it up with oil and check the gauge or do you turn the engine on and let it warm up a little and then turn it off and check it again? Thanks for your help by the way
I bought my bike with the kit already installed. I can't find the filters on line, though. Where do you get your filters? I've got a 2008 vstar 1100 custom.
So I have a question for ya that I haven't been able to find the answer to.. I have a vstar 650, and it's leaking oil from a very weird place.. It's coming from what appears to be a bolt hole in the case, located behind the kickstand safety switch, and between the frame.. I was wondering if you would be able to tell me what goes there.. I have called multiple dealers, and looked at many diagrams online and have come up empty.. Anything you would be able to tell me would be much appreciated!!
Hey Tony, sorry for the late response. It might be from the neutral switch and dripping out there. They can crack and leak oil in that area. Here is a link to a vid on that.th-cam.com/video/qAgG3ehSGDo/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps you out. Cheers!
Had a ? For u my Yamaha was not sure,I just replaced my bad voltage regulator.i noticed after the relay on the negative end of the battery was burnt bubbled and now the speedo don’t work an the flashers on all the lights will dim do u kno what this saftey relay does? Mine is 2000 1100 thxs
It was already on the bike when I got it, but here is the story behind the bell. www.throttlexbatteries.com/details.aspx?p=A4D3D61DCEB3C859&ppid=59924&beid=03ECCFA17A5007C9
Hey Marco, yes your right the torque spec is 32 ft.-lb. But after years of doing oil changes I found that it doesn't take much to tighten that bolt and I have never had an issue. For the most part on every other bolt on the bike I do follow the torque specs as you will see in my vids. Cheers
Man we missed your videos
I really appreciate that, thank you for the kind comment.
I've been meaning to do that fro two years. This year shall be the year I'll make it happen!

Thanks for the helpful video! Is it normal to not see any oil in the sight glass after initial startup, don’t have any leaks anywhere.
That's a good question, I have to look at that, but if your oil level is in the middle of the sight glass when bike is off and on level ground your good.
Hey great video thank you, can I use that oil on a 2005 1100 custom ?

Looks pretty easy. Thanks for demystifying.
That’s awesome I use the K&N 303 The chrome one. What is your opinion on the K & N filter?
Thanks Dennis, K&N is great you pay a little more but I believe you get what you pay for.
Thanks for replying man. I miss all the videos you put out hope you’re doing well.
@@dennisharbin2700 thank you, much appreciated 🙏

Have you used or heard about other oil brands. I have been told Rotella works very well.
I have only used the Yamalube on my bikes, the 650 vstar and now my 1100 Dragstar.
I use rotella t6 in mine. 22 bucks for 4 quarts.
Thank u for the help.
Nothing like a half a beer oil change
Great job buddy! hope you had a great weekend man!
Thanks Tony, Cheers!
I will be getting the kit for mine
Thanks For this information
I just did a oil change on this bike with the relocation kit and I put in the amount that the manual says 3.17 quarts but it seems like the oil side gauge is full… How much oil do you exactly put in?
I put in 3.1 liters with a new filter. If it's over full you could take the oil filter off and remove a small amount of oil that way.
@@bernbo Thanks for getting back to me so fast… The strange thing is 3.17 quarts is 3 quarts and 5 1/2 ounces… 3.1 L is 3 quarts and 8.96 ounces… So it would seem that I have not enough in there? This is with a new filter K&n 303c
@@MegaOorwullie yes good idea to tip bike to see oil come down on sight glass. It really is just over 3 liters, you may have to drain 4 Oz out.
I bought my bike with the kit already installed. I can't find the filters on line, though. Where do you get your filters? I've got a 2008 vstar 1100 custom.
Hey Daniel, I pick them up at my local bike shop, just let them know you have the relocation kit. The number is 3FV-13440-20 Yamaha filter. Cheers
Did your bike already have the engine guards. I like their size. Do you know what type they are by chance?
Yes they were on the bike when I bought it, not sure what the make is. I'm with you, I like the size of them they match the bike well.
So the OEM filter from the manufacturer is different in size than the replacement?
Hi Evan
That's correct, you will not need the orginal filter with the installation of a relocation kit. It is a simple spin on filter.
Where do you find the filters for the kit? I can't find them on line.
thanks....................
Lucky fecker have the oil filter relocation kit
What is the tool at 2:33 of the video? I can’t get this thing off for the life of me.
That is a pair of channel lock pliers. Hope this helps you out. Cheers
@@bernbo Yes, thank you so much! I have channel locks but looks like I need bigger ones.
