I just bought my V star 1100 a few months ago. Decided to do a few low maintenance tasks just to kinda get a feel of the previous owners doings. Hed already disabled the AIS bc he put 4.5 cobras on and everything was checking out.... until i drained the final drive. Only a little oil came out but the rest was diluted (from the oil) AXEL GREASE! Im flushing it now but im worried there already may be irreversible damage. Large metal shavings came out with the grease.
Always a gamble when buying used...but figuring it all out is part of the fun haha. I do the same thing as you, soon as I buy something I start working my way through it
Thanks for watching! This is what I am using: amzn.to/32iUnV3 It fits under better than any other one i've tried, still have to wiggle the bike a bit, but only a bit. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
@@AGuyandHisProjects how so? Saw in dept vid. & states any kind of "banking" on the road and it wants to tip you over and harder to smoothly corner/ takes more effort. Saw your vid when you made the switch, but never gave your impressions.
@@theman6841 hard to explain, think it is better to just go and try it! I wanted to do a review video...but then we needed to pay some bills so I listed it for sale and it sold real fast so I never quite got to the video portion.
Check out my other video where I talk about that. I have a link to the tire in the description of that video as well. th-cam.com/video/af1KVF4KCwo/w-d-xo.html

Thank you for your time and showing me what I need to do
You are welcome! Glad I can help, remember, I am not a mechanic and have no training :)

A good standard practice is to remove the fill bolt first. You do t want to be caught with a drained final drive and no way to fill it.
Yes it is! That said I've never had an issue lol
@@AGuyandHisProjects to be fair it's a lesson I learned on outboards but have since applied it to everything.
Hmmmm, I might try a studded snow tire for winter.
No idea how that'd go, but I say try it! Lol
Thanks
You are welcome!
Where did you find this rim for the rear I’ve been trying to find one and the that’s solid not spiked I keep having issues with the spoked one
I believe it depends on the year, if I remember right this rim I got off of a wrecked bike
Is that a car tire one the rear?
Yessir! Check out the Playlist. Think I have a video where I talk about it
w you remove that round cap on the reservoir?
The decorative cap does not need to come off, just the drain and fill bolts. Mine is missing from some other event that I honestly do not remember lol
Ay what motorcycle jack are you using?

I need this tire! Please help!!! What is your type number. Size
Thanks for watching! I go over that info here in this video at 1:40 th-cam.com/video/af1KVF4KCwo/w-d-xo.html
Is that a car tire on your bike?
Indeed it is!
Youre okay with the (altered) handling characteristics? Been watching darkside vids. After i saw this...
@@theman6841 the handling is a bit different, but only for the better in my opinion. Very worth it!
