    Nice video, I've gotten the same results on most of the vehicles I have installed a K&N intake kit, did not do much for my '06 Dakota 3.7L until I added a programmer, now that little six runs like a seven cylinder!

    I didn't mean to cause any debate here. The results shown were exactly what I got and it was consistent until I sold the truck two weeks ago. Everything else was stock, including the exhaust system.

    Thumbs up Craig, nice sound difference indeed, most of the experienced realize the cost vs gains aren't cost effective compared to other air-flow modifications, but if $250 isn't a big deal to folks, it also doesn't hurt anything. I personally like the sound difference you shared here, but also realize my stock gmc 1500 5.3l would get the same results with a drop in K&N filter...but can afford a CAI and like the sound too, lol.

    Hot air or cold air.... The intake sounds way better than stock and a intake sounds way better than just throwing a muffler on it IMO. I rather have stock exhaust with a aftermarket intake due to the nice loud growl it makes.

    Great video, very useful info. BTW what engine size is that? 4.8 or 5.3?
    People should keep in mind that the fuel eco gains only occur when you keep your foot out of the throttle, once you start hammering it your economy will go out the window. I have a 10 Sierra and a 06 Dakota V8 before that, both with k&n cold air and the fuel economy went to hell compared to stock when not puttering around.

  • @Denkha94
    @Denkha94 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    nice video, but the couple extra gain results are not worth it, due to dusting your cylinder walls over time when using k&n filters or any reusable/washable air filters. when I got mine I replaced it with a quality oem filter. much less fine dust appears now in the throttle body and intake duct housing.

    im selling this product everyday, ( on old car owner 2005 and less ) and everyone come back very happy of the improvement, either in gas mileage or hp, its never the same, but todays modern car seem to have a system that counter act the unbalance of the air filter just giving out some little hp improvement and very little in gas mileage but on old car it work miracle

      Do you perform proper maintenance on your vehicle? Regular engine oil changes, fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs and wires, trans fluid, front and rear diff oil. I have found that keeping up with ALL (not just a few) of these effects my mileage for the better. The less parasitic power loss you have, the easier it is for your engine to move the truck. Also, unfortunately a factory tune ECM is going to behave differently in different barometric areas. It may depend on where the vehicle is being driven.

  • @91C4NVA
    @91C4NVA 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    First I'll say as someone who tunes cars for a living, I don't buy into the hype of k&n, except that they are cleanable. I don't dispute your results, they look good. My question is did you replace a new regular filter with the k&n or was it a dirty filter? I think a lot of people praise k&n for these results when just putting a new cheap filter in the car, replacing a dirty one can give the same results.

  • @jonathanstidham6740

    In my experience I have the k&n Blackhawk system. with Flowmaster super 10 and BBK 90 mm throtle body and throtle body spacer. On my 5.7 also has bullydog gt hemi in it. And I use to get around 11 mpg with the 33 x12.50 on it. But now I average about 17 after the aftermarket stuff. All I'm saying is a Cai is more then just sound. If added with the proper set up. I am very happy with mine.

    don't be a troll they were both 8 second runs, from 57 seconds to 1:05 and then after at 1:15 to 1:23 and you can confirm that by doing frame by frame. Only difference is after he installed he launched at 1k rpms which is where he gets the tire squeal from. Cold air intakes aren't gimmicks, you don't go buy one and put it on expecting to see differences in times. You have to mod your exhaust too and most get tunes.

    Doug, wouldn't waste time with net-trolls that are automotive engineering clueless. Like the build list, used to build race engines myself, last build on my 97ss, LT1 5.7l, built into an Callies forged solid roller 296 stroker, one-off pistons, Jessell shaft mount rockers, hand ported/flowed AFR210 heads, custom intake, list goes on, everyday driver, 550rwhp running 10.9 1/4 mi. naturally aspirated. As for CAIs, anyone with sense knows a drop in K&N filter in a stock box is equivalent. :)

    I think we are on different pages here. I'm in no way saying on your average car that these are worth the money but im saying in general cold air intakes are not bullshit and on performance motors that they do help and do increase performance. Even in those applications its only on average a 10-13hp gain and 4-6lb of torque. I did watch the video but the one I watched only showed one car so apparently I watched a shortend version of the one you're talking about.

  • @dwtees
    @dwtees 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yung dro, See my comments above. Notice I don't have a cold air intake in my list. Look up Mythbusters cold air intake on another youtube video. These guys do dyno tests on cold air intakes. My 90 gmc sierra has a tube from the air cleaner snorkle that pulls cold air from the inside of the right fender. I just removed the early fuel evap valve to get move air flow. Most likely its as good or better this way than any cold air intake on the market. Its hard to beat the factory engineers.

  • @jungleislandsurvivor
    @jungleislandsurvivor 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Exactly, forgot how much CAIs got people excited over nothing "realistic". I've used them, but learned over the years a simple filter-charged K&N drop in the stock box would provide the same results. Someone spending more on a larger Throttle-Body would see a slight difference for the cost of a Volant or Air-Raid Syn-Fiber filter CAI around $450. Just not worth the money, but they look nice for those who care.

    My question is what kind of condition was the paper filter in?
    I have yet to see a K&N filter kit deliver anything near what you are showing here.
    About all they are "good" for is the extra induction noise, if that's what you like.
    Of course, you could have just modified the stock airbox to get the noise for free...

      Lee S. I replaced my original paper air filter inside my 4.7l Jeep GC with a K&N unit, and immediately felt more grunt and midrange pull. The engine seems much eager to rev from idle. Not dyno tested though. Seat off your pants feel is positive & noticeable improvement. This was just a filter replacement and no cold air mod fitted. Original paper filter was only replaced 2 months earlier, so wasn't too dirty. I suppose the results would vary for each make, model and engine size though.

    A cold air intake does nothing for any vehicle ever. In most cases the stock airbox is the best solution until a certain HP number is reached. On my STi the limit for the stock airbox was around 500WHP, most people change up to a CAI just for the noise which is fine but they don't expect any sort of HP gain at all. Even if there was some sort of gain, they would have to be tuned to be able to use all that extra/colder air (exceptions for older JDM cars like a R32 GTR, etc.)

    2011 F150 3.7 v6 302hp use the same air filter as 5.0 v8 360hp. The 2011 Mustang 3.7 v6 use the same filter as 5.0 GT Mustang. My point is, stock air filters are not restrictive. If u want more power, put a cam n there.

    Well, they probably didn't mount it right, didn't have enough airflow, didn't tighten the mountings down, didn't do a list of stuff. Or they just bought one for their civic and it didn't come with the stickers and so they are mad.

    I drive a 90 GMC sierra 1500 with a 50 mm throttle body, vortec pocket ported heads, GM performance ported intake, Patriot full length headers, performce chip by fi-xtreme, 2 1/2 header back exhaust with h pipe, 1.6 roller rocker arms, 9.5 cr, 96 camaro LT-1 roller cam. See you let your ass overload you mouth once again. You're good at that Yung Dro. You should get your brain moving before you get your mouth moving. I didn't say there was anything wrong with the guys truck.

    If cold air intakes were a scam, they would of stop making them due to false advertising

      Ivan Garmino how the fuck do u gain mpg by adding air to an engine? that would add more fuel

    • @tracefuqua3651
      @tracefuqua3651 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The ECM won't add more fuel to the curve unless an aftermarket tune was done. The added volume of colder air allows the stock fuel to be burned better and more completely, which results in more power and better milage.

      To make any vehicle run correctly and take advantage of a cia a tune is always needed.
      With new vehicles bolting it on and expecting your stock computer to do the rest is a pipe dream.
      Not knocking cias at all or this guys install just stating a fact.
      Same goes for a better flowing exhaust system tune it if you want it to run correctly.
      if you bolt it on with no tune you are compromising the stock program parameters.
      With that said it will not preform as expected without a tune.
      And as far as gains are concerned I’ve seen as much as a 15 hp gain with tune that is!
      Without it gained a hp and a half but that gain fell off at higher rpm once it was turned it did what it was supposed to a few mpg better and 15 more horsepower.
      Don’t believe me ask any reputable tuner shop they will give you the same advice.
      And remember more air with the same fuel output equates to a lean air fuel mixture.
      So for your engines happiness and longevity do it and yourself a favor get a proper tune.
      I’ll get off my soap box now lol
      Happy modding 🤘

      I thought it picked up after 60, indicating perhaps, no HP gain, but maybe 5-10 lbs. ft. which you might notice when you get into a gear that starts pulling you forward.

    And im not a fool, I didn't buy the one I have for performance increase or mpg as I knew it would do little of both. I bought it because it lasts longer than a paper filter and pays for itself during that time. Plus I like the way they sound and look. I was able to get rid of all the factory bullshit and install a second battery for my sounds where my old air box used to be. If I was looking for performance I would have built a motor to drop in however I don't want that in my daily driver.

    How old are you Yung Dro, about 12? That's what you sound like. If you want to have an intelligent conversation let me know. If you're just want to act like a spoiled kid and are out to insult people I'm not interested. If you want to know about things that make power on a SBC I have a lot of experience. I have more years of experience than you are old in fact.

  • @dwtees
    @dwtees 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    These tests are not scientific at all. You need to see dyno results or time in the 1/8 mile or 1/4 mile to know if there is a difference. Just "feeling" the difference.... really?? The factory mileage gauge is on the dash is anything but accurate. To be accurate you need to drive the car and divide miles driven by gallons used. Get real. This is why people say you loose HP. Its hard to beat the factory engineers. Cold air intakes look really cool and they do dress up the engine comp.
