Tough day in the boat - Giant Crab

  • The popularity of this channel has long been the fact that you get what you see. If Graeme has a tough one, then you see it, much like that which happens to most of us regular fishermen. He takes an old wooden boat out off the South coast of England, as usual filled with hope but the fish don't want to play ball on this particular day. So back to the Totally Awesome office for some good old fashioned "theory time", one of the favourite topics of both TA Fishing, and our sister channel T.A. Outdoors. Sit back and enjoy, and don't forget to let us know your comments if you have your own particular ideas on Graeme's "theory time"...True ?? Or just a load of hogwash (and what exactly is Hogwash?? anyone know?)

Those old wooden boats you use in the videos are just the coolest. As always awesome video G made my Saturday morning so much better. It's not always about what you catch, but seeing you out alone on the open sea in an old wooden boat, I don't know something about that is just so relaxing.

I love the way you don’t put much emphasis on the best rods and reels and so on and just use what you have modified, probably much too the dislike of the tackle companies. But when you catch like this it’s so much more enjoyable.

via Garden Guides "Birch leafminers rarely kill a tree, but they can defoliate almost half of a birch if the infestation is heavy. Such defoliation will cause the tree great stress, and while birch leafminers do not kill birch trees, they create stress on the tree, weakening it and making it susceptible to the more dangerous bronze birch borer, which does not eat the leaves of the tree but instead attacks the sapwood."

I'm a professional gardener and it's been an extremely odd year for the plants, some hardy stuff has died, a lot of stuff hasn't flowered, some stuff has flowered a few times rather than just once and a lot of trees are looking really sad. Bugs wise I would say there have been less around, I've only seen a few slow worms and very few hornets. My lake has been hard work this year, water levels haven't recovered properly in 2 years and the weed has been biblical, it has looked more like a field for the last 6 months and it grows back as fast as you can clear it, fortunately this has meant it stayed oxygenated when we had that blisteringly hot couple of weeks but I am worried about the late autumn/early when the weed starts dying and pulling oxygen out of the water.

Hi there, A fewof years ago I spoke to you at Mylor problem with my prop on a wilson flyer? I fish and garden in Cornwall for the last 40 years. The small holes to the foliage is called 'shot hole' and is caused by a fungus, it's been a good year for fungus! By the way
I liked your 5G comment! The Holes with the rounded edge are leaf cutter bees, when you are potting up in the greeenhouse you may (or may not) have noticed small plugs of leaf which contain a grub of that bee. My pond has had the same problem with lilly leaves this year. Trees that like water have defoliated earlier and you can spot the dominant trees (willows are shallow rooted), Leaf curl in willow is a small wasp sp. On a modern house on clay the subsoil could be panned preventing seepage. Less insects noticeably in recent years. Windscreens are generally clean after a long drive! We had a bat in the bedroom this summer (windows open all summer), talk about grumpy! There is a lot going on with the Sun presently and the Earths rapidly declining magnetosphere
and pole shift. Take a look at Ben Davidson's site here on YT called suspicious observers channel it might answer a few of your questions? Take care love your channel and your attitude...

Think the pigeon had been hit with bird flu it was detected on the Isles of scilly last month and found its way up to the North Coast not long after. As for the trees we live on the outskirts of Sheffield and have had weird tree growth this year several different species have been affected by drought also moth damage that made them look as if they were dying, we have an oat tree that seem to be on its way out but at closer inspection is covered in gall wasp apples.

The EA can usually supply aerators in emergencies but it has been a nationwide problem this year so I suspect what they had to spare was probably already at work somewhere else. In fairness, oxygen crashes can happen really suddenly and unless you're monitoring levels constantly they're not easy to predict or rectify. Speaking as a fishery manager it's not as simple as some might think, pumps aren't magic unfortunately.

Bit of a long message i'm afraid given the death of our Queen.
I did initially message you but deleted it due to the enormity of what is going on.
I message you not as a fellow Fisherman but as a fellow British friend. What we have lost in this Country is Enormous. Our Queen was unbelievable in service and i had the privelage to do close protection for her cousin the Duke of Kent many years ago, and indeed had private chats with The Duke Of Edinburgh. I honestly believe we will never, ever see the likes of our Queen again.
