Review Mercury 20hp EH on a Stryker LX 380

- Here we have a Stryker LX 380 inflatable boat with a NEW 2022 Mercury 20EH Electric start outboard. This has 2 wire leads that connect to a battery (Minnkota power centre box group 27 deep cycle marine battery).
This outboard has a push button start, charging capabilities to keep that battery fully charged.
Today we have a Garmin fish finder that we're going to be using. This battery will keep this whole system fully charged for the day, which is great!
Another really cool feature about the Mercury 20 EH is it weighs under 100lbs, making the electric start portable and light. What I like about this New outboard is Mercury has centred the tiller. On a lot of outboards on the market today they have it on one side or the other. This works great if you want to use your right hand or your left hand. They've attached the shifter onto the tiller rather than on a mount further away. This is a step above other motors. They have a locking function that locks the outboard in place and its really nice as well.
There's another feature that will allow you to choose how far you want the tiller to sit based on where you like to sit on the boat. These motors are very easy to tilt back as demonstrated in the video.
It's a complex outboard that is very straight forward and very easy to use. On the NEW Mercury 20hp even the electric start models you have option to pull start as a backup. This outboard comes with everything you need to use, including prop, fuel tank, fuel line, everything you need to get out on the water all in one package.

Man. nice you say the tiller sticks straight out. but you can also adjust the tiller to the right or to the left !

You said a couple pounds more for the electric start but I'm having a hard time finding the exact weight of the electric start model. The manual start is 99 pounds I believe.

I purchased one of your LX 380's this spring. Love the boat but am currently running a motor that is underpowered for the boat. (merc 6 hp)
I am looking to upgrade soon to either a 15 or a 20hp. wondering is there a big physical size difference between the 15hp and the 20hp? Is there room to mount a trolling motor aswell when your running the 20hp? Thanks
Hi Garth, depending on brand it may vary. If your buying a Mercury, the new 9.9, 15 and 20hp EFI are the exact same motor, same weight. The only difference is the ECU and restrict or plate. It’s much more expensive to add these components later so I do highly recommended enough getting the 20hp. You will not regret it, especially if you ever consider adding a Macs river runner prop protector. 💯⚓️😎

Would the 20 hp be suitable for the 420 - 3 maybe 4 adults, with fishing gear? Not looking for a ton of speed but will it get up on plane? I know the 20 hp is a sweet spot in terms of weight and cost, but I like the larger boat.
Generally yes! 3-4 normal sized adults will put it right at the sweet spot. I typically use a 420 with 20hp and works great in terms of efficiency and lightweight portable package.
