@missourioutdoorboyz i had same issue, to test it, i cut 2 inch styrofoam and placed it over transom, splashing were gone and increased speed by 5mph. I was surprised. Now need to install jack plate
I just bought a Tohatsu 20, Can't wait till the ice is off. I found out there is no thermostat in it like my old 2 cycle merc. I sure a mercury is better.
I recently picked up a 14’6 (according to the title) v bottom alumacraft with a brand new never been run 20 horse Tohatsu and can’t wait to break it in and do some serious fishing this year
Both are great choices! I just like the looks on the merc, and it's a nice spicy engine ( 2023 15hp owner ) mine is doing around 44 km/h on a 420 polyester v shaped speedboat
I have 2024 20hp elect start and when i reverse the motor kicks up. is this the new norm or is my new outboard defected? My 06 9.9 tilt locked automatically in reverse...
The new tiller handle and controls are just frickin awesome. I just came down from a brand new 40 with the huge handle to a new 25 with this smaller handle, I like it a lot more. These 20's are really impressive, and at their weight/price its a better deal.
No issues as of yet. The fuel consumption is great. 4x better than all the 2 strokes I’ve ran. It came with a prop and I’ve been using that, I believe it’s a 10 pitch. Definitely a great motor with no complaints yet. I’ve had it wintered in the garage. I’ll be getting it back out soon!!!!
Bought it from bass pro. It was their policy to do all that for me. When I picked it up they put it back in the box so I could get it home. That was after they walked me through how to operate it. I didn’t have a choice.
I have a 14x48 sea nymph aluminum boat I have a mercury 9.9 4 stroke that push me about 18mph max top speed by myself (fully loaded boat) how fast will this motor mercury 20hp push me

I use this 20 hp EFI on a 14 foot aluminum boat while pulling a kid on a tube…and I still get up to 24 mph on GPS.
If you raise your motor a little, you will eliminate those splashes.

The power trim is designed to not operate when your boat is on plane, when you actually need it.
I have a 2007 merc 30hp 4 stroke on a Craigcat. Still runs awsome. I have no idea how many hours are on it. I'm the 3rd owner of this boat and motor.

Mostly availability. We bought this during Covid. A Yamaha I feel would be a solid choice as well.

Ours locks. There’s a red lever that has to be flipped.
Why not tohatsu? ...im deciding between mercury and tohatsu, i do like that shifter.
From what I’ve read there’s no real big difference between the two. Tohatsu wasn’t an option at my dealer. So that’s why the Merc.

You might be able to get a little faster if you trim her up a bit. Seems like shes spraying a the back a bit

When out fishing last week and I would go high RPMS and when I would stop it would smoke from the muffler. Any idea what it can be?

Oh it’s gets super slow. If memory serves correctly at idle no more than 2mph but that may vary depending on the weight of your vessel.
Mine idles around 2 mph.

It’s tough to see. I got up to 27.7 mph. Gauged off the gps on my fish finder.

Probably as fast as mine. 25 to 30mph.
How do you trim outboard
This one is manual. So you set the pin and that’s really all you get. The do have power trim options, I just didn’t get that one.
