The Anglican chant is most beautiful when it is sung to the words of the Great Bible (Coverdale Translation)! That is part of what makes the chant peculiar and uniformly recognized within the Anglican Communion. One of the few remaining universal traditions of our fractured Communion. It is good to see some Episcopalians keeping to the tradition once delivered to Anglicans! Well done RSCM!
You are quite correct, but it was the incorporation of Coverdale’s translation of the Psalms - and other items such as the Te Deum Laudamus - into the original 1549 Book of Common Prayer that has ensured it continual use, and therefore popularity up to the present day. Coverdale’s translation is magnificent; personally, I prefer his Psalms to those in the King James Bible (1605).
