One of My favorite songs from this album so far is probably "darkness at the heart of my love", I definitely recommend it. And "Respite on the Spitalfields"
We need to get you guys boosted in the algorithm. Appreciate your hustle and what you're trying to do with your channel and music . And I've not heard this song yet, but that intro is beautiful
Thank you so much! Yeah we're just beginners but the channel seems to be growing fast! We just finished reacting to the entire album, but I think I'll post the rest tomorrow!
@@MattKrogmeier the last two minutes with Mikael Åkerfeldt on nylon guitar is nothing more than breathtaking! There is someone who did a TH-cam video with these two minutes played over and over again for an hour and i can sit with My headphones on and cry for 59 minutes of it ❤️
My pre-order arrived yesterday and I've been listening to the album non-stop! So glad you decided to kick things off with the opener and can't wait to see your reaction to the rest of the unheard songs! This one is about Hypatia, a Greek philosopher, astronomer and mathematician who lived in Alexandria and was stoned to death by a Christian mob who considered her a witch. Kaisarion is the germanized spelling of Caeserium, the building where she was murdered.
You should check out the recent live performances of this (it opened the show on their tour with Volbeat). What the Ghoulettes bring live in the chorus sounds so awesome.
I cant wait to see your reaction to the pre chorus for 'Watcher in the Sky'. I adore the whole album but when he belts out "communication is key" on Watcher I immediately thought, damn is this album Feat. weird al?
The Intro reminds of 'Marilion' 'Childhoods End' -Album 😉😊🥰!!!...A bit like 'Kaileigh'!....And out of a sudden you hear 'Rush'....😂...Amazing!!!! Can't wait to see them in Hamburg, Germany, 19 of June, 23 🤣🥰
Tobias explains Kaisarion: There was a building called Caesareum in ancient Alexandria. Roughly what happened was that the teacher and philosopher, Hypatia, was murdered by Christians. She was molested and murdered inside the building, because of her pagan beliefs, because she was a believer in science and real things. This was in the beginning stages of Christianity, when it was just an insane cult, before it got the mandate of a book put together by Romans in 325 to harness that shit. This was like an underground group of terrorists, basically, who couldn’t stand to see some female smartass preaching or telling people that the world wasn’t flat. And it didn’t happen at the same time, but they also burned down the big library in Alexandria, which must have been an enormous, enormous loss for mankind in terms of knowledge and historic accounts. There you go - for the greater good. I think that’s a nice symbol for what you can see now. You can see likenesses of it in public book burnings and stoning and killing everything that doesn’t match with a sort of a flat Earth reality that some people live in. Or storming the Capitol and wanting to hang people. It’s a symbol for those sorts of movements that are always targeting smartness and enlightenment, and thinking. The story this song tells, or the perspective it shines light onto, is basically stupid people destroying something that they don’t understand with a frantic smile on their face. This has happened many times and unfortunately will probably happen many times in the future, because unfortunately things that we don’t understand or that we cannot control have a tendency to arouse those feelings. We want to kill it. We want to destroy it.
There three theories concerning the Library of Alexandria, and none are certain. One involves Julius Caesar burning ships in the harbor and it spread. Also, the early church in no way believed that the Earth is flat. In fact, they stood against those very few aberrant teachers that were pushing it. So, perhaps stop pushing disinformation. Tobias is wrong on some of the premises in the song. However, his disdain for Christians makes it OK for him.
this was a killer breakdown of these tracks!!! Imperium into Kaisarion is mind blowingly good. If you want to complete the cycle, jump to the very last track where that intro weaves back into the last song on the album!!! Love this song so much I literally did a cover of it. lol. Also saw them play this live here in Chicago like a month back, they were amazing. Great channel, new Sub here.
Guys... I think I have a new Ghost number One album. And the closing song Respite on the Spitalfield is maybe... maybe the best song of Ghost ever. In my opinion of course.
Cool take! I think you are right with the intent of Imperium representing the close of war and Kaisarion representing the rise of an empire from its result.
Imperium to me is a realli nice ode to and recontextualization of To Live is To Die, which would fit the whole theme of empires rising and falling cyclically~
They opened the shows with this song on the most recent tour. The live version is slightly different and I think even better. This new album I think is going to be like that across the board and the next tour is going to be epic.
Hypatia. The name the low chant says, well She was an pagan Ancient Philosopher in Neoplatonic philosophy and mathematician in Alexandria around 400ad. She was well loved and liked by the people and was liked by the bishop of the Christian church of the area. When the bishop died, he had no one set to take over. So a small war broke out and a man named Cyril became bishop in the end. He did not like pagans and that philosophy and had her taken to the kaisarian, which was a Old pagan temple that was converted into a church, And had her killed and dismembered. So the story of the song is that people fear and want to destroy what they don’t understand. And the death of logic a reason
I hope you guys get to catch the live performance they did for TH-cam. They played in a mausoleum! Sonically, Ghost is always on point, but you guys are really missing out on the visuals too! Stellar review as always. Can’t wait for your take on Watcher in the Sky and Darkness!
Kaiserion's title refers to Caesarion, or Little Caesar, Julius Caesar and Cleopatra's son, the final ruler of Egypt and of the last state of the Greek world, which would be replaced by the Roman Empire
Okay, so I'm watching you react to Ghost and you have 665 subscribers as of this moment. Something is slightly off, so I must hit Subscribe. It's just destined...it HAS to be 666 with a Ghost reaction!
I've been loving your Ghost reaction videos, but a question - why not one for Spillways? Seems to me to be the biggest banger on the album. That said, thanks for doing every other song on the album!
Okay, funny story... We reacted to every song on the new album in order. There was no real logic behind the order of which the videos were posted, however.... the one reaction video we shot that didn't turn out well was Spillways. Not up to our normal fun banter and quality in my opinion. Our kids started having a meltdown and were fighting/yelling in the next room about something and we got super distracted and flustered. So, that said, we will reshoot Spillways this Thursday evening with full disclosure that it's not technically a "First" reaction. Thanks for your support of the channel!

The bridge section with the guitar solo gives off MAJOR Kansas vibes to me, but I get the Dream Theater nod as well.
Yes particularly on Carry on my wayward son, at about 44 seconds into the song before the first verse. Check it out and compare!
