I started out with harbor freight under my teacher and mechanic shop co owner/partner. It was what he used so I never thought more about it. We hired a new employee about a year ago for his HVAC and electrical expertise and this kid (funny he isn't much younger then me at my age of 25) brought his tools in and had almost exclusively tekton and gear wrench. I've been impressed with both but the tekton more so. Even though I'll still use the HF for my mobile repair truck, I have since started switching to tekton my self and being patient and waiting for them to release more so I can swap my other tools too.
Went to HF to buy a 1/4 ratchet. Ended up buying the 38/14 dual drive ratchet with the extending handle. Turns out that thing is really handy! Used with both drives and the action is really tight and smooth. For under $20 couldn't beat it! Great idea that works.
I never had good luck with their zip ties, but good luck with most all other items I've purchased there. YES their 1/2" drive breaker bar works great!! With out breaking!
I have all HF step bits, I drilled through very heavy metal and they are still in great condition! I also bought their visescrip pliers and work very well!
The long handled 1/2" drive breaker bar from Harbor Freight is AMAZING! Their Black impact sockets in any drive size is as good as they come!! I us them mainly on large commercial trucks, and I abuse them!!!!! no failures to date, fantastic!! Their Alan wrench sets are great. Screwdrivers suck! Their full chrome professional wrench sets are VERY Good!
The 8 gallon air compressor has been super handy around the house and work mainly for tires and light impact wrench work also the cheapest volt meter I use a lot and it perfect for what I use it for
I agree with 100% of everything youve purchased at harbor freight. I would suggest signing up for the coupons. I got the magnetic bowl, and microfiber towels for free with ANY purchase.
I don't have a Harbor Freight near my home but near my work. At my local Q-Bargain store, which is a dollar store, I've bought useful small tools like those cleaning brushes, face mask, camouflage duck tape, mixed bolts and screws, scrapers, crazy glue, coin batteries, zip ties, glue guns, soldering iron, etc. A lot of little simple things that sometimes help me out on a job.
The cjrshop yes exactly. I used it on a pre existing hole and it made it bigger with ease and cleaned up the edges which was nice. thank you for watching and commenting.
Surprisingly a tool that I've had a lot of success with and use a lot more often than I thought I would is the really cheap angle grinder. It's like $15 but there is coupons all the time for like $10 but I've had it for about 8 months and use it at least once a week if not more depending on what I'm doing and it has treated me very well. Even the cheap cut off wheels have been holding up quite nicely.
Really like your video! One thing that harbor freight does not offer is a set of hose clamp pliers. This is one of the most useful tools I have ever bought and used them for my corvette many times. Thanks for sharing!
Corey Graham thank you and yes I agree those ratcheting hose clamp pliers are amazing. Idk if I would get them at harbor freight but I love that tool as well
Agree completely on the consumables. The cases of connectors and such are great for in the car or truck. I have made a lot of parking lot repairs with the HF stuff that I carry in my truck.
I bought a huge set of taps from Harbor Freight. I tried re-tapping and over-tapping some holes in a motorcycle subframe, and the taps immediately went dull and wouldn't cut at all. Not even a little bit. I bought a small set of Craftsman taps and tried the same holes, and they cut through the steel like butter and showed no wear and tear afterwards. A lot of time with Harbor Freight you just get what you pay for, and those taps were complete junk.
The Doyle pliers are decent, the Pittsburgh pliers can be OK, you just have to be careful picking them out. Use the he'll out the step bits. Would the pop pin pliers work for pulling the Bosch 5 pin relays?
The step drills are awesome. I bought a three piece set way back when they first started selling them. I've used them on stainless steel, for anyone who has drilled stainless knows how hard it can be on drill bits, and they are still drilling just as good as the day I bought them. Highly recommend them.
the 3 piece 14 compartment drawer organizers (#99731) at H.F. are awesome. Very sturdy and useful if you're looking to refine some of the space withing your tool box. I also looked at the craftsman version which were very cheap and flimsy feeling.
I wish you could post pictures in the comments. I have the HF socket organizers and have completely filled them with impact sockets. Most of them are HF 1/2" HF impact sockets, which wont fill out the organizers. So like you, it bothered the shit out of me and I bought the rest to fill them out.
The best item at Harbor Freight is the 4 in 1 screwdriver that goes for 1 to 2 dollars. I buy lots of them for me, wife, sisters and other people. Everyone needs a screwdriver.
Man you gotta be carful with those clip removing pliers. They have way more leverage than you need.. after popping one (and mostly destroying it) I was able to dial it in.. but can be worth it with that in mind haha
Personally I prefer the spring-style socket holders because I have a bad tendency of banging my drawers and toolbox and I don't like sockets flying around at mach-jesus.
i was looking for a pick set like that but my HF didnt have those, i guess i will have to look at another store and probably buy half the wall full of their expendable boxes too! lol gotta love those expendables boxes!
I've used harbor freight pro impact sockets and the 3/8th impact extensions, they stand up well compared to my snap on, and other brand sockets. The only problem I find is every now and then is I lose one or I'm pretty sure somebody steals my extensions! Haha
Great video. You mention an under-hood light from HF. Which one do you have? I've looked at the long cordless one, but I've had rechargeable lights, etc from HF before and the batteries do not last very long.
The pick set is usually 30 bucks at parts stores so it is a real deal ...I got a set too..great for stuck spark plug boots or coil packs that break off in the tube
Most mechanics have a hacksaw, and they work well for cutting plastic hangers off the socket set trays. No melted plastic from high speed cutting. P.U.!
Craftsman socket rails with the ball detents are the best. Grab the whole rail of whatever size drive, metric or standard (grey or black) and have the correct socket every time. Like $15 for a set. Not those old metal pieces of junk.
A good rule I was taught early was never touch the paintwork under any circumstance, the car might cost 500 or 50k, the owner will still never come back. Also not getting into the drivers seat until you've cleaned yourself. Sounds obvious but yeah,
i tried staying away from harbor freight cause most of my tools i have are from there. I tried adding different name brands to my tool collection and shop at lowe's our home depot but always end up going back to harbor freight and buying the same tool cause it's cheaper and it gets the job done. I'm just a dyi and fix my own car. My buddy who is also a master tech at toyota borrowed my harbor freight impact gun after his snap on broke, i haven't seen my gun since.
I was going to buy a set of long pattern metric wrenches from harbor freight, but when I looked at them their was a few sizes that was skipped, wasn't their, maybe they don't use those sizes in China?
Well Tony liked your video.. Thanks.. As a winter project I have been going through all my tools and getting rid of tools I don't use. I did buy the SAE and Metric socket rails that you showed. Yes I have OCD as well and every socket holder has to be filled or it is a major write-up in the Air Force Consolidated Tool Kit program. This is my private tool box by the way. Anyway as you know HF does not sell single sockets so I have gone to Home Depot and Lowe's looking for sockets and I can't find all the sizes that I need. Do you think some of the sizes on the rails don't exist ? Just for example I can't find the 5/8 inch 1/4 drive socket in the deep well or short. Another bummer is I bought the 1/2 inch drive deep well SAE and metric sockets and they won't fit into my top drawer.. to tall. I wanted all my sockets to be in one drawer. I went to Auto Zone as well searching for missing sockets with some minor success. What do you think ?
Ray Conner haha thank you so much. really glad you enjoy and ya some of the sockets can be hard to find. I must say your best bet is to go on eBay and type in the socket size you need. that is what I did and I was able to fill up all of it lol. thank you so much for commenting
those socket rails are pretty good. I like harbor freight tool storage because it's cheap and I don't feel bad about modifying it. check out their oil filter pliers and hammers. that's my harbor freight must haves. oh and a service wrench set for hydraulic fittings.
TonyTheTechnician some super nice socket rails are westling. they have great customer service as well. for your 1/2 they wouldn't work because the base is about a 1/4 thick. they are pretty cheap for what they are too. hope all is well with the new baby.
Edward James ya I have sockets all the way up to 36 at my other box. And I just ordered some larger wrenches as well all the way up to 32. which should be good for me. I'm sure you use the large stuff more than I do. thank you so much, really glad you enjoy!!!
Kendall Brock thanks for the input. I’ve been trying to do less rambling at the beginning and just get to the point lol. I’m glad you still enjoy. I’ll try to continue to improve my content
I don't think you ramble. I've seen other videos where I had to skip up to 8 minutes until they got to the point. What I do like on some videos are when they put some kind of note or annotation telling us to skip to 6:38 for the actual part we came here to watch or something to that effect.

Love the OCD comment - I'm just the same - I buy stuff I seldom if ever use but I have to have ORDER in my tools - every year on my birthday I take the day off and ORDER my stuff and replace low stock.
Try some different brushes youll be amazed how crap the Hf ones are, I have some I used at work steel & nylon and omg theyre great and last a long long time... I like to use the bench grinder and grind around the brushes corners to get into spaces. Great vid T-bone
Yoda Doug ya definitely better brushes available but they are super cheap. Oh damn that’s a great idea of trimming up the edges for tighter spots. Thanks for sharing that!! 👍🏻
Great video and I agreed with you on some of the items like the socket rack and zip ties. I also have ocd for have the whole socket rack full. Question why do you have a couple of 12 pt sockets mix with the 6 pt?
David Young thank you. those 12 pt sockets are the ones I didn't own when I purchased the rack and I couldn't find the 6 point version of them. I had to order them online. so I ended up filling in the rack with a couple of 12 point sockets.
I get and love their 9 mil nitrile gloves. I tried some that i got at Wal-Mart since harbor freight is a bit of a drive for me. I ended up throwing away about half the box because they were just that bad. I don't like their butt connectors personally, but I choose to use the ones with heat shrink and have never seen any there. The composite ratchets are iffy imo. I bought one to try it out and it had a horrendous amount of flex in the handle. The long needlenose pliers are decent too.
Im from Canada and we dont have HF up here. I was thinking of taking a trip down to snag some needle nose pliers. Anyone know of the quality of the long reach 11" as well as any other needle nose plier?
Dude first, if you haven't been there yet get the coupons first (easy) then bring like $150 bucks and you'll have more than enough to get plenty of tools. Almost everything in the store.
Ian M Princess auto is nothing compared to HF. I make a special trip a few times a year because princess auto just doesn’t cut it. Can’t beat Harbour freight
Kyle Powell I only have one set of the harbor freight sockets and they seem to work fine. I don't use them all that often but they seem fine. I haven't had to warranty them yet which is good lol. thank you so much for watching.
The reason I like your tool box tours is BECAUSE you have OCD -- it gives me an example of organization to shoot for. But y u ignore my beloved HF 18" magnetic tool holders (which are almost always free)!? jk :-)
A Frend haha thank you. I'm really glad you enjoy that. Lol I'm sorry I told you I might forget some thing haha. thank you so much for watching and commenting!!
we don't have harbour freight hear in Canada we have princess auto hear what I plan on getting from them is a ratchet 1/4 drive 12 inches long looks close to the snap on one
I looked pretty closely at the Harbor Freight bumper pin pliers just the other day and none of the tips met evenly and all were ground at different angles. I decided not to get them and was going to order the Gearwrench set online. How do the Gearwrench version you have match up at the tip?
Ah. Glad to know that. Ultimately, I'm sure the HF pair would work just fine, but, they did look pretty gnarly. You're right about the breaker bar, too. Tom Lipton from Ox Tool did a pretty extensive torture test and comparison to a Snap On breaker bar, it held up well.
Good video Going to try the clip pullers, However the ratchets are Crap. Dont buy those. Magnetic trays are also crap. magnet is too strong for the glue that holds it to the tray comes right off.
Other than the color, that set of pliers looks identical to my Craftsman Evolv set, probably made by the same factory. www.sears.com/craftsman-evolv-6-pc-mini-pliers-set/p-00910060000P?plpSellerId=Sears&prdNo=3&blockNo=3&blockType=G3#

I am SO upset. I didn't win anything or watch that other video, but I WANT a Tekton tool set!
LOL
Any recommendations on tool boxes?
Get their tool boxes only on the big sale...you can get half to 3/4 off...I know a lot of pro mechanics have them and say they are fine
Excelent informative
Thanks 👍
Good information
Thanks
Jack Smith thank you!
great video Tony keep up the good work
Kyle Fraser thank you!
Love the OCD comment - I'm just the same - I buy stuff I seldom if ever use but I have to have ORDER in my tools - every year on my birthday I take the day off and ORDER my stuff and replace low stock.
Robert Smith nice haha ya I have to stay organized
Dude everything looks so clean and organized how much do you use them?!
Thanks. Basically every week. But also keep in mind when I made this video 2 years ago. A majority of the tools were only about 6 months old
That drill bit looks like the arrow head rambo used to blow up that helicopter
Bryan M hahaha true
Try some different brushes youll be amazed how crap the Hf ones are, I have some I used at work steel & nylon and omg theyre great and last a long long time... I like to use the bench grinder and grind around the brushes corners to get into spaces. Great vid T-bone
Yoda Doug ya definitely better brushes available but they are super cheap. Oh damn that’s a great idea of trimming up the edges for tighter spots. Thanks for sharing that!! 👍🏻
Going to have to pick up that stepper bit at some pt and try it out. What size does the set go up to?
asm154 1 ya I like it a lot. this bit goes from 1/4 to 3/4 but they have a 3 pc set nd it comes with different sizes. thank you for watching!
Ok.
DaVinci's Garage they are of decent quality. plenty good for a DIYer.
Princess auto is the Canadian harbor freight.
Can’t beat Harbour freight
great video. how do you feel about the harbor freight pro sockets
Kyle Powell I only have one set of the harbor freight sockets and they seem to work fine. I don't use them all that often but they seem fine. I haven't had to warranty them yet which is good lol. thank you so much for watching.
Kyle Powell I just used a impact on a regular hf deepwell socket. Socket is still good.
Good video Tony.
BADD400 CB700 drums thank you!!!
Can you clean inside your ears with the pick set?
H M lmao if you wanted too
Love the magnet trays.
Snap Mac same here!!!
I have most of those. I have the 1/2 inch grey ratchet. Ive beat the heck out of it and still good.
Michael Potts very nice!
A Frend Its 10:30 pm right now on a wed night and i want to go reorganize mine
we don't have harbour freight hear in Canada we have princess auto hear
what I plan on getting from them is a ratchet 1/4 drive 12 inches long looks close to the snap on one
Dan Bates oh nice. I hope it works well for you
Subscribed
HF FTW
DOYLECLEVERLOBE1 haha thanks Doyle
They gave away the magnet pans at my place free
Nice
Their floor Jacks
kingkong8974 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I looked pretty closely at the Harbor Freight bumper pin pliers just the other day and none of the tips met evenly and all were ground at different angles. I decided not to get them and was going to order the Gearwrench set online. How do the Gearwrench version you have match up at the tip?
MrWalkerklondyke hmm that's pretty crazy. mine line up perfectly. thanks for the heads up!!
MrWalkerklondyke ya I think your right. I'm sure they would still work fine. And ya I saw that video with the breaker bar, great video!
I have those pliers, all of them and they're really good for the price. Even if they're not perfectly asymmetric.
I sorted them to find the best one
forget their gloves. buy Diamond grip gloves. they are the strongest. ebay
dann hienn diamond grip is great 👍🏻
Are you a veteran?
Yes I am
Looks like I have everything lol.
Haha nice 👍
I agree with your choices, but waaaaaay too long for me. I prefer concise, comprehensive information videos. Don't have time for much else.
HiTechDiver thank you and ya my older videos were way to long. I no longer make videos this long. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
Good video Going to try the clip pullers, However the ratchets are Crap. Dont buy those. Magnetic trays are also crap. magnet is too strong for the glue that holds it to the tray comes right off.
Other than the color, that set of pliers looks identical to my Craftsman Evolv set, probably made by the same factory. www.sears.com/craftsman-evolv-6-pc-mini-pliers-set/p-00910060000P?plpSellerId=Sears&prdNo=3&blockNo=3&blockType=G3#
Brad Noyes ya your right they do look identical. and your probably right about the factor. I think the only difference besides color is the price lol
