This is great, I have used it dozens of times since watching. Is there a way to break the link on composite parts (my case is a weldment). It doesn't give me the option. The feature tree contains the original part and no features because I couldn't break the link. Thank you

In 2019 after selecting part file via browse, link option disappears. Although option is active, when there is no models present in document selection field. Any idea why? Thanks

Is it possible to do so with an assembly?

Yes though the process is slightly different. You add your assembly to a new assembly like adding a sub assembly, then you can right click on it and choose dissolve subassemblies

Is there any way to automate this task? I've got thousands of files to process!

Unfortunately there is not any automation for this process. Depending on what you are looking to change you might try the custom property tab Builder

why not just save out the drafting standard and load it to the old part. Seams like you will need to update the custom properties anyway, that can be done with the property manager or you can use an excel template to copy and paste the info you want there. We would copy all the properties out to excel, delete all of them. Then run a property tab manager and paste the text from excel into the right locations so that when we applied the info all the parts would have the same information in the same place. any of the old not used info would then not show up. and you don't need to update and recreate configurations.

if you change the template of a part in this way, the drawing of the old part will lost link with a lot of warning and default.

That is possible, it depends on how the drawing was constructed and if there are property links on the page.
