    Something that bugs me about this is that the "bad guy" is made out to be Is and, eventually, Jamie. Not the parents? The industry? This is a literal child pushed into fame with ZERO guidance or support. Her crimes include... trying new things (dance committee), taking more time for herself and her passions (quitting the pizza place), being expected to rely on assistants/managers for everything and them not doing their jobs, and being extremely busy because of schedules that were most likely determined FOR her by managers/media folks.
    Watching as an adult, I'm just like *where are her parents?!* Too busy sprinkling cat urine on the next pizza experiment to talk with daughter about staying down-to-earth, or to intervene on her behalf??? Why are the CHILD and the POWER-FANTASY COPING MECHANISM the bad guys?!

    • @FlorSilvestre12
      @FlorSilvestre12 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +18

      Looking at the movie from this angle makes the whole story seem like a pretty dark reflection of the lives of child stars and the unforgiving way the public reacts to them not being perfect/breaking under pressure. Jamie is a 15-year-old who is progressively losing touch with reality the more she gets caught up in fame, industry demands, the pressure to financially support her family, and isolation from her peers. How many times have we seen people who became famous as kids just lose it from all this and more and then be shamed and condemned for not being perfect little well-adjusted angels?
      It's an especially sinister way of framing the problem coming from Disney. How many child stars have they neglected or broken and thrown on the trash heap?

    I've cracked the code. Jamie's writing is the only coping mechanism that keeps her dissociation and maladaptive daydreaming at bay, so we see her slowly mentally losing it throughout the movie. Poor Jamie.

    • @thedestroyasystem
      @thedestroyasystem 3 ปีที่แล้ว +87

      Could be DPDR and MDD. We see her going through depersonalization and derealization with the character of Is, though not to an extent that Is is and actual person like with DID or OSDD. While a coping mechanism, the journal is also part of her MDD, as it’s a way for her to get lost in her own idealized world so to speak.
      Would never attempt to dx a real person, but it’s fun to speculate with characters.

At first, the ball is huge and presses down on the button constantly; over time the ball shrinks, imperceptibly, bit by bit, and presses the button less often. I missed out on all the DCOMs growing up cuz I was homeschooled by hyper-religious parents who made me watch the Exorcist when I was 7 for "educational purposes", but thought Arthur on PBS was inappropriate. Which totally absolutely definitely 100% had zero impact on who I am as a grown up, and I am literally totally absolutely completely fine, and my therapist agrees. But when I was finally allowed out of the cellar to go to a public school for sophomore year, I found out about all the kids shows and movies I'd missed out on when the other kids only spoke in Disney Channel and Nickolodian quotes. The bitchy sarcasm and god-tier sass in your wholesome commentary reviews are the only palatable way for me to catch up on the shit I missed and finally connect the dots on so many references that went over my head in school lmao and from the bottom of my heart, thank you 🤣

    I know they never bring it up in the film, but maybe the reason why the family still “struggling” financially after the book gets published/famous is because writers usually get paid in lump sums twice a year. So she just might not have been paid yet 🤔

    After watching Read It and Weep when I was 10, I decided to start writing in a composition book that I labeled "My Private Personal Journal DO NOT READ" inspired by the movie. I hardly wrote in it and kept it hidden behind a bookshelf. My mom eventually found it in 2007, and wasn't happy with the title and the idea that I wouldn't want her to read it. She was never a fan of diaries I think because she thought they encouraged kids to keep secrets from their parents. So she assumed that I must've written something inappropriate, but all that was actually in that journal was a poorly written Zoey 101 fanfiction that I was embarrassed of.
