I can not stand the weird forced heterosexuality on children. A baby boy smiled at me in line at the grocery store and some old guy said the baby was flirting with me. I'm like sir that child is so young he hasn't discovered his own toes yet.

I hate that saying no to a proposal is automatically a breakup - like sometimes things are just too soon but doesn’t mean everything has to end necessarily, right?
You would think that, right? But considering that there's still plenty of people who propose without actually talking about it to their partner first; lets us know very few people take into consideration anybody else besides themselves. If you don't even know what your partner thinks of marriage, or how they view that commitment for their own life, why are you proposing??? The idea of it being a "surprise" doesn't mean you need to put them on the spot without warning; it means you've talked about it, and they don't know when or how the proposal will happen. And by talking about it, you avoid doing things that they hate; like proposals in public, sports games, etc or cliches. And the ring! You should know what type of rings they like, don't just pick whatever. Many things can be avoided by just _talking with your partner_ , including avoiding them saying "No" to your proposal.
I know right! That was something I liked about the show bones. Angela's boyfriend makes a proposal speech at this restaurant and she says no and he accepts that and even makes it clear that hes fine with where they're at
Hannah Gadsby had a bit about this in her latest special Body of Work (which I saw live and don’t think is available as a recording yet). She talks about how one partner will spend months thinking about proposing, going “are we ready for this? Am I ready for this?”, planning how things will go and how their life might go, etc, until they’re sure and ready to pop the question, then the man will ask the woman and if she can’t confidently answer immediately it’s seen as reflecting badly on her, implying she doesn’t care about the relationship, wants to end things, etc. Hannah mentions this while telling her story about how she proposed to her wife, which is significant to the show. I feel like Hannah gets criticised a lot because her Nanette show was more “like a ted talk” than a comedy show and the way I describe this bit doesn’t include any jokes, so I just want to add to the end here that Body of Work is probably one of the funniest if not the funniest comedy shows I’ve ever seen. I saw it with my mother and was worried how she’d react to Hannah’s comedy style but we were both cracking up laughing throughout the show. There was some dark humour in there but it was still very funny and concluded in a very funny and (for lack of a better term) satisfying way. I don’t want to spoil it for people but I do highly recommend it. I’m interested to see whether the recorded version differs much from the version I saw, which seemed very catered to an Aussie audience but would still probably be great for non-Aussies too. It does contain dark humour, but I’m honestly impressed at some of the topics she got me laughing at tbh; thought it was a brilliant show.

She was in a CSI episode, too. And had a voiceover role in The Lorax but that doesn't really count. And a cameo in New Girl but that's NOT a good example. She actually got a decent amount of screentime in the CSI episode , though for a character that was killed off in it 😂

I’ve worked as a phone sex operator around the time this movie was released. How it works is you have to have a land line phone, and you have to clock in and do a 4 hour shift. You take calls constantly back to back, and you don’t just work for one hotline, you work for about a dozen. You get a prompt like “Barely Legal”, then you have 20 seconds to become a character, then you start the call. The goal is to keep the guy on the line for over 20 minutes, because then you get a bonus.

Ok as ugh as it was, young trans/gay me went insane when I saw the gay couple. I watched it with my very, VERY heterosexual family in a very, VERY heterosexual town so it was one of the first exposers I had to lgbt topics.
I used to work at a local flower shop to help with the Valentine’s rush. I would greet customers, help with tasks that didn’t involve purchasing or arranging (selecting arrangements while in line, helping folks write out their cards, etc.) and handle deliveries. My favorite story: A guy came in. He ordered 3 of the exact same arrangements. Using the same pet names and signature, he wrote the same somewhat raunchy message on the cards. He made it absolutely clear we were not to mention the other arrangements when we delivered each one. To top it off, when I went to deliver them, each woman lived on successive parallel streets! (Think: 1st, 2nd, 3rd streets.) Dude was just making rounds of the neighborhood! (Also: Nobody tips their delivery person. If you have cash and the means, don’t forget to tip!)
I would love to see you talk about another ensemble cast movie: He's Just Not That Into You. I still watch it regularly despite it also suffering from the time it was made in 😖
Funny enough, Pretty Woman was supposed to be a lot more depressing but then the script got bought by a family friendly production company (pretty sure Disney owns them) and they completely changed the script to make it more of a rom-com.
@@AbraCadaveric kinda but the end was going to consist of Richard Gere’s character dumping Julia’s character at the end of the week and paying her, then she takes her escort friend (who is dying of a sexually transmitted disease in the og version) to Disneyland with the money she earned from the guy. I was diagnosed with bipolar 1 like eight years ago, but I couldn't actually accept it myself or treat it until recently because I was ashamed. Honestly not a single person in my family knows because they talk so poorly about people with bipolar disorder and I honestly don't really wanna deal with that. When I was growing up there was a girl in my high school who was bullied out of marching band (yes, fucking MARCHING BAND) because nobody would talk to her because she was open about having bipolar disorder. I remember thinking at the time that she seemed perfectly fine and normal. I had a friend with schizophrenia when I was 19 and she was actually one of the greatest people I've ever met. And also really really interesting to talk to. We lost touch after our seasonal jobs ended but any media that attempts to portray neurodivergent people as scary, lazy, violent, etc is incredibly annoying. If you are going to address issues like that it needs to have a bit of thought and care put into it or make it clear to the audience that you shouldn't actually treat people who are different like raging lunatics by conveying that with character arcs.
I was diagnosed bipolar a while back and my best friend (at the time) proceeded to share my diagnosis with everyone we worked with. But that isn't the best part. She was 'confused' I guess, and told everyone that I had multiple personalities. I didn't hear the end of it until I left.

Julia Roberts’ character going home from deployment for one day to see her son on Valentine’s Day made the least amount of sense to me. Like what? People on deployment literally miss the births of their children and funerals of loved ones because the mission comes first, but she just gets to go home for shits and gigs?? It’s clear none of the writers ever served in the military, spoke to a person in the military, or googled how leave works in the military.
Yet not even this will top the racist mess that was Garry Marshall’s last ever film “Mothers Day” I never want to see a rom com again just thinking about it
Oh my God I did not even know that movie existed and now I'm so curious. I saw both valentines day and new year's eve in the theatre because friends wanted to see it, I can't even imagine how awful the mothers day one must be. Especially if you're claiming it's racist, terrible
fun fact: in the scene where the old couple is standing in front of the giant movie screen at the cemetary, the woman on the screen in the black and white film was a young Shirley Maclaine.🙂

Omg yessssss!! Nick needs to do a breakdown of Never Been Kissed! That was one of my all time favorites growing up - I'm pretty sure I even had it on VHS 😂
I have such a love-hate relationship with that movie. Most of the love comes from nostalgia and the fact that Drew Barrymore is such an amazing human being... But man, seeing it as an adult... 😬😬😬 So problematic holy shit.
The way he made Julia Roberts say "big mistake, huge" made my entire body shiver. If this man was still alive he'd genuinely still have that bald guy catching objects saying "happens all the time".
For sure was a Swiftie who only watched the movie for Taylor Swift when it first came out. Only remembered she was a high schooler and Taylor Lautner played her love interest.

Nick has the best delivery, the lines that make me cry are so random sometimes. Today it was “his wife is just looking around, like ‘is she gonna bring us some bread? Because all the other tables have baskets of bread”
Omg I just remembered this - when I taught Media, one of the assessment tasks was for the students to make a sort of diorama of a scene from a movie they like. And one of the kids (they were 14) chose this movie! I saw the movie and hated it but her diorama was amazing and I kept it for ages as a sample of an A+. Wow… it was so long ago lol
He was heavily influenced by that film though. Like he was definitely trying to capture the "charm" but in an American movie. The thing is that though there are a lot of bad things about Love Actually looking back, it did kinda work and was a novelty at the time. The Garry Marshall holiday trilogy tried to copy it but just couldn't recreate it.

The thing I like about this movie is all the actors are out of their typical role, some more than others obviously, but like it has that uncanny valley type of feel Separetely, who has time to care about Valentines' Day THIS much? As someone who is Aroace this would be my personal hell if I lived in this movie like Gary Marshall is the type of person that can't fathom that people don't want to be in relationships
Ah, Topher Grace is one of the millions of movie/TV men who completely forget that February 14th is Valentine's Day. Every year. What an original, funny, true-to-life trope that makes my sides positively explode with laughter. 😐
3:00 Garry Marshall also was a TV showrunner and creator of sitcoms like "Happy Days" and its spin-off "Laverne and Shirley", which starred his sister Penny as Laverne DeFazio. Penny herself would later have a successful career as a film director, with hits like "Awakenings" (1990) and "A League of Their Own" (1992).
I went to see this movie in theaters in high school and the friend who begged me to go ditched me for a boy at the movie theater so every time I watch it all I can remember is how awful high school girls are.
I want to say this one very important thing: Out of all holiday candy (Xmas, Halloween, Valentine’s Day) the absolute best is Easter candy. There’s no comparison. It’s the best and always will be.
Remember when she was going to be cast as Joni Mitchell and Joni axed the whole movie because "she doesn't have the chops to play me"? Pepperidge farms remembers.
Joni Mitchell was rude as hell about it. Taylor adored her and was constantly complimenting her, talking about how her music was an influence. Joni Mitchell handled that without any grace or class.
These movies could have been vaguely better if they took place in the same universe and the actors played consistent characters tbh. Like if Valentine’s Day and New Years Eve had Kutcher playing the same character I could at least maybe admire the writing a little bit? Also your lip gloss in this? Phenomenal.

I think it is totally fine to enjoy a problematic movie as long as you recognise that it is indeed problematic, but lots of people won't accept that their favourite thing is not as great, as they think it is, or sends a very horrible message.
@@gggthsb this. I know a lot of the things I love or enjoy are problematic or I can understand why someone wouldn't like it (matter of preferences). I'm pretty sure Flower Shop assistant is played by Kathleen Marshal who was the Queen's Assistant in Princess Diaries 1 and 2 and is - of course, Gary's daughter.
She’s also a Broadway choreographer and has a won a Tony for it. Didn’t realize they were related!

I used to work at a local flower shop to help with the Valentine’s rush. I would greet customers, help with tasks that didn’t involve purchasing or arranging (selecting arrangements while in line, helping folks write out their cards, etc.) and handle deliveries.
My favorite story:
A guy came in.
If he doesn't tip, the arrangements get mixed up

It's such a painful movie 😔😔
Funny enough, Pretty Woman was supposed to be a lot more depressing but then the script got bought by a family friendly production company (pretty sure Disney owns them) and they completely changed the script to make it more of a rom-com.
Wasn’t it supposed to be like a modern My Fair Lady?
