i've heard a lot about solo leveling, it's kind of regarded as the entry way to Korean webcomics for weebs (lmao) but since i was already deep into webtoon i didn't feel it was a necessary read, especially since it seemed like a never ending power-creep nightmare, kind of like tower of god (not that i don't still enjoy tog, it just gets tiring after the 100th episode) but listening to you describe the plot made me kind of intrigued! i might give it a shot ( •̀ ω •́ )✧ would you consider making a video on omniscient reader's viewpoint next? it's one of my favorite webtoons, if not my absolute favorite ♡
Honestly Solo Leveling holds up great on a first read But on re-reads you really start noticing the cracks, the biggest one being that it sets up this fascinating and detailed world and characters, and then never really does anything with that Because in this story if your name isn't Sung Jin Woo you might as well be an actual cardboard cutout for all the agency you'll have in it
I feel this. Upon rereads while still great, the world near the end feels… empty. The streets once bustling with hunters and people, are just blank. I like this effect, as it creates a sense of distance between sung and everyone else, but it leaves the worldbuilding to be desired. Most villains only are remembered because of the fact theyre turned into shadows, and the final one is remembered scarcely as its the final one. I feel like the LN expands on this more, and im glad its getting an epilogue now
Honestly the comic is mid. The art is good but the LN is just better specifically for world building and the side stories which make the entire story so much better.
I love SL, it's actually the manhwa that introduced me to the manhwa world, webtoon and even manhuas. I'm enjoyin some of manhwas right now because it and I'll forever support the IP👌
I started reading the ongoing The Wandering Inn webnovel and as i was waiting between chapters to come out, i read Solo Leveling in-between. Now, im not much into reading books or comics, more of an anime guy, and i didn't have much to compare TWI to. But reading SL's monotonous story about a guy who barely struggles to defeat anyone and levels up just in time for the next fight, made me realize how much TWI had spoiled me with its top tier writing and rivers of content and worldbuilding. Still, SL kept me entertained throughout most of its basic story, but was never more than a side dish for the main course.
For people who've already been reading manhwa it's very well-known, but you'd be surprised at the amount of people who have never even tried reading a manhwa before and thus don't even have any idea about Solo Leveling's existence.
I read solo leveling and then I would see comments sometimes spoiling things or saying how it happened differently in the novel version and then when I got to the end and saw a bunch of comments where they say the manwha cut out a bunch it just made me sad
I read the LN to get ahead and yea it comes to a point that it became uninteresting due to power creep and how the MC became unstoppable. The world building is fantastic but damn its too MC oriented, but yea I kinda can relate why Solo Leveling got a huge fandom which good MC development and and yea the graphic plays a huge part. Not too my likings tbh bcs how OP the MC till it became ridiculous.
I really enjoyed reading SL and I'm just waiting for the new side story chapters to pile up a bit then go back readin it. I'm also lookin forward to the anime hopin it will be a good anime adaptation
I read it a few years back, even jumped to the webnovel since the manwha hadn't finished by then. I absolutely hated it, so much so that it forced me to read something else to cleanse the palate, so to speak. I proceeded to read all of the 1450(!!!) chapters of "Release That Witch," which despite its flaws, is still one of the best novels I've read thus far.
The more I think about it, I hate the translation "Solo Levelling", since the more correct one I've seen is one of the variations of "I Alone Level". How great is the story? I actually bought the entire light novel series, bought up to the current latest illustrated and the first season of the anime. Love them all.
You realise it's not over yet and the "2nd season" is several chapters in right. This is a great series though. I would also recommend solo max-level newbie. Similar series well worth a read.
I so envy you right now . I would give anything to read this manhwa again for the first time

“The BEST” and “You haven’t read” proceeds to mention the most popular manwha of all time that’s honestly quite average compared to many better ones.

I've always wondered if the whole Isekai concept was taken from the /k/convergence concept.
