My number one go to as far as keeping my feet warm is combo a good quality wool sock with a gortex over sock. They can be hard to find got a pair last year at MEC.

I'm sure your system works well. Just one point is that especially in gloves and boots, super tight is not super warm. Insulation occurs in the dead air space between layers. If the fit is too tight you lose R value

I use the tight glove so it fits in the next size up, without the tight glove it is noticeably colder but I know what you are saying with the R value, same reason compressed insulation in a sleeping bag provides little to no extra warmth.
