I honestly probably could’ve put enforcer a bit higher. It’s downside isn’t super large and the upsides can be game changing sometimes, I’ve just been using stock a lot lately.
@@CyberWizardTF2on the kunai yeah it’s not as good without 10 dipshits to repeatedly refresh your hp but it’s still basically the big earner but better against explosive classes for actually escaping after a stab and if you get caught out against people who know how to play the video game the 55 less hp really isn’t much of a difference.

Cheetaz just got back into the competitive scene so get ready to see more of that guy popping off this season. Revolver will always reign supreme over the amby.
I LOVE THE RED TAPE RECORDER I want to say, the deleveling is also GREAT in casual for super full engie nests, because they use up all of the metals for having to re upgrade back to level 3 And for teleporters, the level 1 tele is so slow ive seen a lot of people not use it when it's level 1, specifically medics and pyros who are already fast, so they go alone and unprotected, fantastic for a swift kill, especially on maps where RED is defending and takes longer to spawn! Thank you for spreading the word of the red tape
the red tape is useful to very quickly reduce a t3 sentry to t2. it does so MUCH faster than the stock will kill it. wasting a bunch of time and metal in the process of it needing to upgrade again. wasted time and metal that can help a push take out the nest before the engi can reset his position. basically its much more useful for temporarily weakening a sentry nest, without taking it out, most likely because you dont have time for the sapper to work but still need the nest weakened for a push.
In 7/10 matches i play as Spy, there's always an engie that ask why i'm using RTR (sometimes cursing me), all while he is specting his building being slowly destroyed or became a box after a forced deploy.
i have a weird playstyle using the Big Earner, and it's not because I go for chain stabs. Cloak and Dagger is super fun but a downside is you run out of cloak really fast. My solution to that is to just get more cloak when I kill someone. I then become undetectable cause I have more spare cloak to maneuver nearby the enemy where I just last stabbed my victim
I have a very specific loadout called the payback spy which consists of the rtr, diamond back, and spycicle. Whenever I am being hard countered by pyro, engineer, or sniper(I play mostly trolldier, spy, and caber demo). I use this loadout to annoy the other classes as much as they annoy me. However all the Crits are reserved only for players who specifically switched to schizo pyro.
YES! I was searching last week for a tier list of spy's weapons but there weren't many from sources I can trust (I'm looking at you, Zesty). I value tier lists from creators that main that class, so thank you! My favorite weapon of spy is either the Invis Watch or the L'etranger.
I have a loadout where I combine the YER, L'Etranger, and the CaD. Cloak drain is mostly canceled by gun, YER allows for da funni chain stab (and opportune backstab moments in general), and CaD allows for interesting Cloak escape mixups. All in all, it's a pretty solid synergy that allows me to play in some pretty flexible ways.
very similar to my tier list for comp spy, and helps me feel validated after the stupid shit i saw going on in the aus comp spy scene a few years back when i had time to play your future red tape vid has me sitting on the edge of my seat, meanwhile i still rekon revolver over letranger, but their both so similar in power its neither here nor there lastly maybe im being too harsh on the yer, but i feel the enforcer should be bumped up a bit, atleast for payload offence and steel offense it can consistently be a game changer, whilst the yer is too random in my comp experiances overall, good video, cyber very much enjoyed
Yeah I could’ve definitely shifted some things around, enforcer was one I was considering on putting higher because it’s downside is barely noticeable and the upsides can be really nice. I’d say all of spy’s weapons are generally pretty great though :D Also for the red tape video, don’t expect it too soon. I’m definitely going to make it, I’ve just gone through a lot of script drafts because I wanna make it really good
Good video and your music choice for the each weapon was good, I especially like the music you used for the cloak and dagger and invis watch sections. No Goku tier though...
THANK YOU for not putting my beloved YER at the very bottom. Interesting take on the weapons. I haven't found a real use for the Red tape yet, so I'd rank it D.
YER my beloved. Been using it for majority of my spy playtime. If you get used to the cloak drain, you can pair it with a stonger revolver so you can follow up if you wiff a stab. Remember that sometimes its worth dropping a disguise if you cant get value out of it. Im hoping i can hit 100k on my yer before the summer.
@@The24thWight I may be slightly biased here because sometimes when there's already a good spy on the team I run medic, but I think medics don't deserve it because their gameplay is quite frustrating if they're being targeted by a good spy. Personally I would change knife with a spy cicle then everything would be fine. I cannot remember when I had a moment where my spy cicle got broken to disable my stab. It most likely helps into staying alive. On competitive scene every prem guy uses spy cicle and revolver combo, big earner and reternal reward are more situational, you need to know when it is better to change your loadout. I thought that kunai should be B tier but after 30 min I only would rather using big earner instead of this on highlander.
I still disagree on the YER, and that comes from someone that used it near-exclusively for a long time. There are just too many things that give it away if you are paying attention. And sure, many players that have never touched the weapon won't notice the tells, but those that do will make you pay for using it HARD. I can get the Big Earner missing out of B tier but, honestly, with the cloak regain it gives you and the 20% cloak resistance, you effectively still have 125 HP if you simply cloak immediately, wich makes it have almost no downside. Sure Stock gets around 156 HP when cloaked, wich enables quickscope survival, but not much else is gained from it. You still get two-shot by most primaries and still get shredded by Pyros and Heavies in a couple of seconds.
Whaaaaaat? You mean to tell me that the Amby is difficult to use? But I've been told by dense TF2 steam forum regs that they hit across the map Amby headshots consistently all the time...

Most of the time you need to finish fights very quickly so you don't lose that overheal OR cloak and run away. The other revolvers just simply take way too long to kill an enemy infront of you and by the time you do kill them you probably wasted 3/4 of your overheal and now you are back to square one. 2-Watches: It's no brainer that the dead ringer synergies really well with the kunai but it's because the kunai encourages a very safe yet aggressive playstyle at the same time and the other invis watches can't do the latter at all. Most of the time you use it as a crutch to actually get away from the enemies quickly so you don't lose that precious juicy overheal. Of course there are its uses for trickstabs but i can't relate to that since i can't hit trickstabs that much. 3-Disguises: By far my favourite thing about spy is his disguises. Being able to fool the enemy always feels good everytime. And the kunai just throws that out the window because if you want to fool the enemy team. *Good Luck* since your health is so comically low that trying to take additional damage while disguised to make your disguise believable will usually end up with you dying...ALOT. Imo this weapon just limits your playstyle way too much so you can actually enjoy using the weapon and not bang your head on the wall every time you use anything else with the kunai. People complain how the YER limits what revolver you use. But i use the diamondback with the YER and i can safely say it does not limit your options like how the kunai does. C teir weapon. Agree that the kunai flattens the intricacies of spy and falls apart with any amount of coordination but you gotta rethink the overheal. It’s not the reward you’re trying two get away with, it’s a disposable resource you can use as a gap closer or surf away with
I actually made a spy weapom tierlist a few days ago and this might be a hot take, but i feel like the big earner is spys best weapon, the on kill effects feel so useful and it can fit with any spy playstyle, no offense to stock knife or the spycicle, i just feel like the big earner can slightly edge it imo
I think the big earner is very strong and pretty underrated, however I think it lacks some flexibility slightly because of the health drain. If you’re exclusively playing cloak and go for backstabs though, then yes this is probably the best knife in that regard. It’s just not great for like revolver plays or anything you’d want max health for.
Engineer main perspective: Don't use the red tape recorder -i hate it- its so bad one of the worst weapons makes pomson look good. It has -a longer stun time on buildings- no good traits as deleveling costs more metal than rebuilding. Please don't use it for -my- your sake.
Im genuinely surprised that the amby isnt higher *just* due to its ability to one shot any sniper whos taken splash damage considering how massively good that was for me in competitive the ability to two shot any light class from fairly decent range would also strike me as justification to move it up a tier, compared to the enforcer's two shot at extreme close range, but maybe I'm missing something I definitely understand it not being as viable in 6s though Great video, everything in this except that ambybit makes perfect sense to me
I think the amby has potential, I’ve just noticed that most comp spies aren’t the biggest fan, the burst damage could probably be really nice if people put more time into it though. (Tldr I suck at using it)
@@CyberWizardTF2 thats fair, maybe to a certain extent I'm just salty that I had the chance to drop a low health medic in my scrim with a headshot but couldn't because my aim sucked LOL, but its also how I consistently killed the sniper so its balanced as all things should be
as someone whos active in the etf2l comp scene idk wtf yall doing in rgl but every spy including me will say teleporters > sentries expect in pl so red tape recorder is borderline useless cuz u will die before the engi places his sentry down if u try to get the insta destroy cuz they can just call ur pos. Every single time u wanna sap sentry u coordinate with ur team on the sap to destroy it and on koth u want to destroy the teles cuz then the engi has to walk back to build it again instead of it still being alive and just needing it to be leveled up once more. People actually spy check everyone in etf2l comp so very and i mean very rarely do people fall for disguises in div 3 - prem so its not a viable strategy to use most of the time. Disguise u only need disguise to hide behind a short object as scout or slim wall as a spy disguise of course u can go for the risky disguise play and hope the pyro doesnt flame u then i would recomend solly, demo, engi, sniper and maybe even heavy disguise if u know how to act as the class. Even tho heavy is really slow people never expect a heavy disguise and i have got some med drops cuz of it in hl pugs that have players mostly from div 2 - prem and very few from div 3 - open and the ambassador should be raised 1 place higher cuz even if u cant hit all of ur shots ur only doing 15% less damage u can get kills with body shots with it almost as good as stock. Stock is better when u need to shoot fast at many enemies or in scout vs spy + u can 2 shot a soldier what can keep u alive instead of needing atleast 4 shots. And u can also 2 shots razorback snipers without needing to be disguised for the 1st shot to do more damage when u want to kill someone else u still keep the high damage if ur good. Enforcer is just easier to use than amby and the best for destroying sentries in pl. All an all best spy weapons are stock/amby and l'etranger in koth/stee. Enforcer for payload for primary sapper 24/7 red tape doesnt do anything usefull unless u playing against dogshit enemies. Stock/Spy-cicle, big earner best knifes. Kunai and yer are very situational and stock best for koth c&d for payload defence and dead ringer u can use in payload attack depending on wich point or if u r a fcking snooze fest gunspy u can use dead ringer too and be a annoying fck to their sniper all game or u can use c&d for koth if u just call and dont go much for stabs. I checked ur profile and noticed u have played in Adv but literally not a single clip u showed had aware players like the vigil stab on med what an adv med would have seen u but that med was like nc or some shit my ranking would be S all stocks l'etranger spy-cicle big earner A C&D Enforcer B Amby, Dead Ringer C Yer, Kunai D Red-Tape staying alive as spy is much better cuz the enemies will have to play a bit different cuz they know the spy is alive similiar to sniper where u cant peak the sightline if the spy is alive u need to be constantly checking around if he is there or not thats why spy-cicle is way better than presented here even if u cant get the kill and if its annoying u lost the stab cuz the pyro hit u u stay alive and it keeps the enemies paranoid when u have gone out of their sight. And for best disguises if u go for the risky play and dont get spy checked is S Engi, Soldier A Sniper, Demo, B Pyro, Heavy C spy D medic, scout spy disguise is only good if u can hide behind something that is slim like warmtic window left wall u can decloak there with spy disguise without the heavy seeing u if he doesnt hear u.
I am ALL in on gaslighting people into thinking my beloved Red Tape Recorder is better than people think. I would like to join your cult/religion. Also, I hate the Kunai. I only play casual and that thing is borderline OP, especially when you combine the jankyness of TF2's spaghetti code and hitbox registration. No spy should be able to walk against a power class, tanking their bullshit and getting pseudo-face stabs. I'm not salty, you are! But I agree with what I've seen in HL, that the Kunai wouldn't be very useful. My favourite is the Big Earner and I'm glad to see its viability in HL. I use it as a super quick escape tool after a stab and I sometimes use it to get chain stabs but it's not usually all that effective as a chain stabber, expecially when the enemy is sorta grouped up.
Please do prolander! It gives Spy a chance to shine in a way 6s doesn't (not to mention unlike HL it allows for offensive Pyro, more important Heavy, less boring Engie)

@CyberWizardTF2 thats completely fair, it can be somewhat inconsistent due to the health drain which is why i believe it is very very close to stock,
If you check highlander prems then you see that most of the kills are made by spy cicle or Stocks (knife, revolver)
awesome video
but i didn't watch or anything i would never support cyber wizard team fortress two

As you shouldn’t
Engineer main perspective:
Don't use the red tape recorder -i hate it- its so bad one of the worst weapons makes pomson look good. It has -a longer stun time on buildings- no good traits as deleveling costs more metal than rebuilding.
Please don't use it for -my- your sake.
Im genuinely surprised that the amby isnt higher *just* due to its ability to one shot any sniper whos taken splash damage considering how massively good that was for me in competitive
the ability to two shot any light class from fairly decent range would also strike me as justification to move it up a tier, compared to the enforcer's two shot at extreme close range, but maybe I'm missing something
I definitely understand it not being as viable in 6s though
Great video, everything in this except that ambybit makes perfect sense to me
I think the amby has potential, I’ve just noticed that most comp spies aren’t the biggest fan, the burst damage could probably be really nice if people put more time into it though. (Tldr I suck at using it)
@@CyberWizardTF2 thats fair, maybe to a certain extent I'm just salty that I had the chance to drop a low health medic in my scrim with a headshot but couldn't because my aim sucked LOL, but its also how I consistently killed the sniper so its balanced as all things should be
spy
as someone whos active in the etf2l comp scene idk wtf yall doing in rgl but every spy including me will say teleporters > sentries expect in pl so red tape recorder is borderline useless cuz u will die before the engi places his sentry down if u try to get the insta destroy cuz they can just call ur pos. And for best disguises if u go for the risky play and dont get spy checked is S Engi, Soldier A Sniper, Demo, B Pyro, Heavy C spy D medic, scout spy disguise is only good if u can hide behind something that is slim like warmtic window left wall u can decloak there with spy disguise without the heavy seeing u if he doesnt hear u.
what if instead of the kunai it was called the goonai and instead of overheal it opens up a sex offender registry when you get a backstab
That’d probably move it up a tier at least
Do you still hold NR 6s pugs on discord?
I currently am not, but I’m working on getting a new server up focused purely on pugs of multiple gamemodes to be run more frequently :D
Please do prolander! It gives Spy a chance to shine in a way 6s doesn't (not to mention unlike HL it allows for offensive Pyro, more important Heavy, less boring Engie)

Can we NOT talk about that right now?

I heard red tape takes away the stored metal in a dispenser, even more value if true
I think it does if the dispensers level one, I forget if it works on leveled dispensers tho
