It is even funnier after you watch an interview where Tom said that he created his character and asked that he would only act if he could wear a fat suit and dance XD
In the theaters when the intro started with the commercials people were so confused about it because we were all like "Wait, what kind of ads are these? Are these legit?" Then after the first one we caught on that it was part of the movie. This movie is just so great all around. Never really had any complaints about it. Though in a bit of irony given the movie's comedy, some people were mad about Robert Downey playing a black man. They failed to see the ridiculousness of what was going on with the character lol -edit- Nevermind, you had the same reaction about the ad LOL
Well, the controversy was before the movie came out, so people didn’t understand the context and no one said anything because of spoilers. After it cane out and people understood the context, the controversy died down and he actually got props for doing a good job.
@@Ivy94F no the controversy was within the last two years. People started bringing it back up years later. I don’t remember any controversy about this movie and Rdj at the time.
When Tropic Thunder was first released, there was zero mention of Tom Cruise in the trailers. So Tom Cruise appearing was a total surprise when I first saw the movie in the theater.

I've seen this movie at least 10 times nowand can't help but chuckle when the RPG hits their Humvee at the end and Jack Black is on the ground screaming about his ass.
Fun fact, in the movie RDJ’s character Kirk Lazurus says says “Man I don’t drop character till I’ve done the dvd commentary.” Well in the actual commentary RDJ is in character as Lincoln Osiris all the way until Kirk goes back to his Australian accent and then when the credits roll he goes back to himself as RDJ. Also this movie is still relevant for today because it is entirely believable that a movie studio would almost actively go out of their way to have an acclaimed, legendary actor who is white play a black man than risk hiring an unknown actually black actor play the part. And Robert Downey Jr. was actually so good at playing a black man that in the special features of the bluray Brandon T. Jackson who plays Alpa Chino said he practically treated him like a black man.
I don't know about other studios but I really hated how in the new Lion King where they chose people with no music background to sing just because of their skin colors, especially Scar. Heck, I think it would be better if they choose to cast the actors from their actual Broadway show than the cast they did.
