Billy's skull was taken as a trophy, because he was considered worthy prey going against Predator with a knife.
For those who don’t understand the trap at the end, the Predator was supposed to go under the spikes. Triggering the trap will ensnare the predator’s foot with the vine tethered to the counter weight. The counter weight falls and pulls the Predator upwards right through the spikes, shredding him up. The Predator saw the spikes and went around, but stood right under the counter weight lucky for Dutch.
Honestly, I always thought Dutch had just set up multiple traps ridiculously quickly. XD
Yeah, Dutch survives by sheer luck. That's something that gets lost in the later movies.
Not quite, it was more of a "clamp" trap with the trigger stick releasing the vine and the vine pulling the Predator's head/neck/torso up and onto the spikes.

I always loved how the movie ends with Arnie and Anna looking traumatised at the end, rather than some cheesy happy ending where they fly off into the sunset like nothing happened. You can tell their world paradigms had been completely changed by seeing that alien life existed.
Fun fact, the man flying the chopper at the end in the aviators was the man that played the predator.

The Predators are a warrior/hunter culture. Of all the different species in the universe, humans are considered to be some of the most worthy prey. A Predator that can bring home human trophies (skulls) is considered to be one of the greatest hunters in the clan. That's why in the final act of the film when Predator has Dutch up against the wall he's inspecting Dutch's skull to see what a great trophy it will make for his collection. While Predator does rely heavily on its camouflage and weaponry, it will go hand to hand with an opponent it deems to be worthy. In this case, Dutch had already proven himself, having outsmarted and inured the Predator more than once. That's why Predator took his mask and weapons off and went with hand to hand combat. Had Predator won, it would have been the highest honor for him to have returned home having beaten a worthy human in hand to hand combat. There's a whole series of books and graphic novels on the Predators that takes a much deeper dive into their stories and cultures, and also how they tie in to the Xenomorph (Aliens) series. If you're really into it it's worth checking out.

@@serhio4275 Yep, those and the games. Although, I should warn you, there have been a lot of different continuities and interpretations from over the decades, so some of the “deeper” lore is kind of…muddled.

@@serhio4275 Well uh…see, tha’s the confusing part. _Technically_ the mainline films are most canon, but there are multiple continuities, and some of them don’t even acknowledge the films, yet others still acknowledge each other…
Yeah, just assume every book or game is either self-contained or tied to the films unless otherwise specified. Otherwise…be prepared for retcons.

The Predator was played by Kevin Peter Hall (R.I.P.)! He also played "Harry" in "Harry and the Hendersons" (1987, Oscar for Make-up)! One of my favorite childhood movies. Please watch it!

I Love That When Dutch Says "GO TO THE CHOPPER!" I Love That Line
Fun facts, if you look close everyone's death is based in their own "catch phrase" or signature quotes
Hawkings: made jokes about his gf genitals, gets castrated instead of skinned
Blain: "no time to bleed" ironically gets his wound cauterized
Poncho:"got time to duck" didn't duck and got crushed with the log
Mac: "I'm gonna cut your name into him" his skull is the only one with a mark like a signature
Dillon: gets his arm shot off, same arm he used to shake hands with arnold at the begining of the movie
Billy: said he feared no man, dies screaming in terror

Hawkins was disembowled not castrated, Poncho and Mad were both shot with the plasma caster on the left side of their head.
Ironically the Predator was aiming for Dutch when he shot Poncho, you see Dutch turn his head and the shot then hits Poncho.
@@Thefoxygamer1 The Predator was definitely aiming for Poncho, not Dutch. Dutch turns his head, but it wasn't a dodging motion, meaning that if the Predator was really aiming for his head, he wouldn't have been able to dodge it. Poncho was definitely the one it was aiming to kill. It wanted his team out of the way so that he can fight Dutch one on one. In Predator 2, it does the same thing to Harrigan. It targets his fellow detectives first to isolate Harrigan so that they can have their showdown alone.

The scene where they just unload into the jungle is an actual is military tactic used in Vietnam and Korea known as the ‘mad minute’ when fighting gurreillas that knew the land better troops would fire in the direction indiscriminately for a full 60 seconds to both clear the area and potentially hit enemy forces. So the use of it in a jungle against a seemingly invisible opponent is a wise move
Fun facts(some is from comics and such, so take it with a grain of salt):
The Predator(real species name Yautja)not only flay enemies as a scare tactic, but do it to those they feel were crappy prey, or were unworthy of having their skulls taken as trophies. Jim Hoppers group probably didn't give them a good enough fight.
The Predators come to Earth to hunt humans and take trophies, but have a very strict honour code when it comes to the hunt. so no killing unarmed people(well, more specifically people who haven't shown themselves to be combatants). No sport in killing something that can't or won't fight back.
If an opponent proves themselves worthy, the Predators will strip themselves of all weapons but their wristblades(which are surgically attached, so any removing of them kills the Predator(and prevents them from ever being unarmed)and fight hand to hand to prove their prowess.
The Predators mimic their prey to lure them into traps and so forth. They also activate self destruct if they fail in their hunt so that their bodies cannot be taken and studied(and their technology doesn't fall into the wrong hands).

Correct for the most part, but the wrist blades aren’t surgically attached. They are housed in a gauntlet like housing that’s removable.
I really miss this kind of movies; a lot of action, a great villain, hilariously one liners, our hero is a completely bad ass (muscles included) the music, the story, I looooove this movie! My favourite line: “you’re one ugly mother.…er” 😂

I never noticed until your video that when they come across the first victims of the Predator, the dog tag they look at says "C E HOPPER" on it. That means that the Predator actually got to the CHopper first!
This has to be one of the greatest action films ever made. Hands down. Legendary introduction to the predator legacy. Arnold was a boss.
Predator and alien werent connected at all... They just put a Ester egg of an alien skull in the Second movie.
Then years later they decided to make a crossover, with Alien Vs Predator.
Now that I think about it, I can't think of any other monster that died happily like the Predator. He enjoyed his hunt. Fought a worthy opponent in the end, and dies with honor to his people.
At the end when you said "what is it looking for?" When he held him up by the neck, I think it was a kind of confusion on the lines off, "how has this human been able to out-think me for so long?" and looking for a difference from everyone else. A realistic theory is, he then takes off his mask and any advantages to fight him 1-on-1. A bit like an egotistical sign to prove he's the best. Otherwise he'd just let it go, retreat, repair and go again the next summer.

I always thought that it was just seeing how nice a skull this would be for its collection.
I think all that, and a bit of admiration. The idea of the series, up until the awful last one, is that humans were not much challenge, hence no skulls taken from Hopper's group, even though they occasionally visit. But Dutch's achievement here is a call that humans have produced some truly worthy opponents, hence the subsequent frequent visits.
The Predator´s code of honor varies on the clans and status, but generally, it all goes arond the glory on the hunt. Generally, a predator would kill and take trophies of any prey they see, and use any weapons at their disposal to doing so. However, when they found a worthy prey, they generally try to kill it in hand to hand combat for more glory. The same attitude can be seen in the city hunter (P2), the young bloods (AvP) and Wolf (AvP:R). However, failing on the hunt means no choice but death or becoming a bad blood, and being hunted by other predators. The original ending of Predator 2 was that the other predators on the ship killed the City hunter for failing the hunt and in destroying himself, and would reward Harrigan for surviving.
The manliest movie ever made and the best mix of sci-fi, action and horror; the making of documentary is pretty cool as well; besides this and the first two Terminator films, I also recommend Pumping Iron, Conan the Barbarian, Commando, The Running Man, Red Heat, Twins, Kindergarten Cop, Last Action Hero and Eraser

"Is this a suicide mission?" In general, mercenaries like Dutch's group wouldn't undertake suicide missions because they wouldn't be alive to collect their money at the end. However, in this film...

Its interesting how problems can be turned into positives. Like the first Jaws film Predatir had technical problems with the "adversary" which caused them to delay into introduction into the film which made both way more scary and intense. If you saw the shark right away instead of just seeing its prey it wouldn't be nearly as scary. Predator is the same. It builds up so much tension in the film.
That was a counterweight for the trap that he originally set that took the predator out.. I think my favorite is predator 2... Originally the predator was going to be played by Jean-Claude Van Damme in a suit that looks like a bug... Thank God they redid it there's actually footage of Van Damme in the suit on TH-cam somewhere

Sequels usually tend to be poor compared to the original but Predator 2 (1990) is equally as brilliant and is set in 1997!

The Predator is a hunter that only hunts prey that they consider to be dangerous game and worthy of a hunt. It keeps his victims skulls as trophies. The predators are honorable and live by a code of conduct which is why it only kills armed enemies. The information of their hunts are relayed from their masks back to their home planet and delivered to their leaders which are called ancients. It's how they move up in the ranks. This predator is what they call a Young Blood who is trying to prove himself in a fight. It's a very interesting universe for sure. Great review my man. I know your going to enjoy the rest of the series. 😁

The deadweight was to put force into the trap , Dutch just got lucky the Predator was underneath it

The log trap that crushed the predator wasn't supposed to work like that. When the log dropped, a rope was supposed to wrap around the predators's foot (you actually see the rope go up into the air) and pull the predator up into the spikes. Dutch improvised and simply had the log fall on the predator instead.

if im not mistaken, the helicopter pilot at the end was the guy who played the predator. still love this movie after all these decades! and this is just a personal opinion but i feel that more one liners would have ruined the mood.
You know what’s interesting about the Predator? Hunting dangerous game and collecting their skulls as trophies is that it’s part of the Yautja culture to survive without over-relying on their technology in order to survive. Which is why the Code of Honor is a thing in Yautja society, and those who broke it will become the Bad Blood and Bad Bloods will be executed for the safety of their species.
My favorite part of the movie is the Predator. He’s a funny guy.

One copy of this movie. It took WEEKS. Unless you wanted to drive a 100 miles to the next video store and hope. But I loved it on first watch, and still love it today. Watching you watch it reminds me of my first watches with new people. Fun stuff. 😎

13:18 first was Hawkings. He treated unarmed woman so harsh and often tells dirty jokes to prove his manliness. Predator tore his balls off
14:41 next was big guy, with silly braveness "i have no time for bleeding", with the biggest gun in gang. Was shoot with hot plasma (most powerful weapon of Predator) to prevent bleeding. He was more valuable trophy and Predator came back for his body.
Like a real hunter he's not interested in attacking people when they rest and unprepared

Can't say that i came to all this by myself, but you will have notice certain parts after tons of rewatchings. Try to find uncut version and you notice more similarity between Predator and Dutch. For what i love old movies, if camera focused on something it's on purpose and more than often with double sense, what i can't say about most (not all) modern movies.

The predator are a race of beings who like by a code, they are hunters, they only seek the a good competition, they won't fight weak or sick people, only the ones they deem Worthy of being a challenge, that's why they always hunt the strongest, on their world, hunting is a tradition, a right of passage for them, that's why the also hunt aliens, which are some of the most dangerous species in the universe, only the strongest predators fight them, and those are the leaders and elites, and the bombs they carry are to ensure that if they lose, they might as well take you with them and erase all evidence of them ever being there
Great movie. You should also do The Running Man 1987 another Arnold movie that came out the same year and was overshadowed by this movie success.

Yes! One of my favourite franchises of all time and my favourite movie alien!
There are a lot more cool stuff about them that the movies don't show, and their connection to xenomorphs (Aliens) are pretty interesting as well!
A few things to know about them:
-Their species' scientific name is Yautja (YA-OOT-JA), like for the aliens are xenomorphs.
-They are an alien species with advanced technology who hunt for sport
-They have a myriad of very cool weapons (we'll be seeing more of those in the coming movies)
-They are about 8-9 ft tall
-They have a complex ranking system and titles based on how many prey they have hunted
-They have a code of honor (we'll be getting to those in the future)
Anyway these are just a few things to note about them, I'll be revealing a little bit of more info as the movies progress!, and awesome reaction as always Tim!
If you ever run out of stuff to watch I would highly recommend “Due Date” with Robert Downy Jr. it was just a very good movie, like a modern day “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.” Keep up the great work on these videos!
There's a solid game where you play as a predator called Predator Concrete Jungle. Awesome story, predator outfits (including 1 2 and AvP) and weapons.
Loved that game. While I certainly enjoyed the “scenery” of the docks mission, the first mission where you were taking on the Voodoo Boys was always my favorite.

You would think, right. But while there are certainly xenomorph in the Predator franchise. The Alien franchise has never officially returned the favor in a Alien movie. Which gives the Predator universe the edge imo.
Jesse Ventura, aside from being in the movie. Was a unofficial technical advisor. Trying to keep the depiction of Arnold's team as authentic as possible. Dude was a navy seal that served in Nam.
Predators or Yautja as their called in the comics and novels go around the galaxy to hunt and take trophies mainly the Skulls
Despite their brutal nature Yautja live by a strict code of honor they don't kill people who are unarmed, pregnant children and sick people.
The average height of a Yautja is 7 to 8 feet tall sometimes taller even the females.

Alien vs predator is only in comic book what if scenarios and the avp films. So it's not in either ones official lore,although many would say othwrwise.
In my opinion Predator, Predator 2 , AvP 1 and Predators are the good ones, AvP 2 went a little over the top with some points and The Predator was just bad....but that is my opinion, love your video ^^
